As others have mentioned, the NRA is far from perfect. However, without them we would have no voice lobbying for our rights. I did the Easy Pay Life membership. 25.00 per quarter until the membership is paid for. My rights are worth the monthly price of a fast food meal. Besides, I could do without the fast food. :-) Sent from my SPH-M900 using Tapatalk

Great work! I have a plan for mine but it will be at least 3 years before I am free of credit card debt. Then there's the 50k in student loans I'll always have. Sent from my SPH-M900 using Tapatalk

Saw this on Fox yesterday. If I recall correctly it is a small well in about 6 feet of water. It was throwing a stream of oil and natural gas into the air. According to the article I read this is a "fairly common" occurrence that usually goes unnoticed by the mainstream media. Thankfully it is small in scope compared to the ongoing BP disaster. Still terrible though.

Hoping it is reasonably priced. If it's too expensive the next closest indoor range would be in Knoxville somewhere. Knox is a bit of a drive just to punch holes in paper. When I get the details I'll follow up in this thread in case anyone else needs to know. Sent from my SPH-M900 using Tapatalk

Supposedly there's a private range somewhat close to me operated by "Powell Valley Sportsman's Club". It is supposed to be in the La Follette (well, Powell Valley) area. Has anyone ever shot there? Know anything about it? I usually go up to the TWRA range off of I-75 at the 141 Exit. With the recent heat wave I am considering finding a nearby indoor range. Just thought I would see if any TGO'ers were familiar with this range. I found a phone number for them so I'm going to give them a call tomorrow. Anyone else have any info? Thanks!

It won't take long. Just seems like it! I'm so glad I got my HCP earlier this year. I've felt much better cc'ing around the Myrtle Beach area on vacation this week. A few questionable looking folks out during my evening walks. Sent from my SPH-M900 using Tapatalk

The P238 is a *really* nice gun. I had the chance to play with one at the gun shop. A bit expensive, but they just feel solid and the fit/finish is top notch.

I have a Springfield 1911A1 GI model. Quite affordable (as far as 1911s go). Very high quality firearm in my experience. Never had a problem. I've never shot one, but the RIA 1911s seem to be regarded as one of the best budget 1911s.

Ended up with a Taurus 709 Slim. Seems to work rather well in a pocket holster, although I wouldn't have thought so considering how much larger it is than the true pocket pistols such as the LCP. Going to head over to the range tomorrow to break it in. ..and a pic for good measure. Sent from my SPH-M900 using Tapatalk

Hah. Love my 1911, so perhaps I made the right choice. My grandfather has an old Smith snub of some sort that his dad carried every day for years. I haven't looked at it in a long time so I don't recall the specifics on it, but I know I had gun envy when I saw it. I'd love to have that old Smith. According to my grandfather, it has never been shot. The "original" box of ammo is still with it.

My Springfield XD 45 Compact fits in my cargo pockets. Definitely not a pocket gun by any stretch of the imagination due to weight. Interesting that they carry that well in a front pocket. I would think the thickness of the cylinder would be problematic when compared to the LCP or similar pocket 380.
-
Me too! In this case, $$ is slim and I'll be doing good to get the (gently used) Taurus.

About to head out on vacation and will (hopefully) be picking up a new pocket gun before I go. I don't really want to deal with my 1911 while lounging on the beach. I had a Ruger LCP but I donated it to the wife since she got her HCP. Looking at getting a Taurus 851 Protector UL. Anyone have one (or similar) and pocket carry? I know the LCP was quite pocketable. I assume the Taurus will work great in the cargo pocket of cargo shorts, but not sure about front pocket carry. Just wanted some feedback from snub owners. How do they carry?

The La Follette TN DOS office also said they would accept Visa/Mastercard for HCP fees. I took the cash with me because I was prepared to have to pay with cash. Not sure about other locations.

I have also experienced this issue if I go to http://tngunowners.com instead of http://www.tngunowners.com. It probably has to do with the domain of the session cookie.

Thanks for the input all (and sorry for the delay in responding). I ended up going with a few inches from the right side of the bench. After the first hundred rounds I'd say it was as good a place as any. Working great so far. Now I just need to get to the range and try out some of my .45acp reloads.
-
Just finished getting my reloading bench together and I thought I would poll TGO before I actually bolted my press down... Where along the front of the bench should it go? I've been going back and forth on the exact placement. It is a Lyman single stage press. Should it go all the way to the left, right, toward one side but leave some space between the press and the edge, or in the middle. I've pretty much ruled out the middle as an option. Just seems it would be in the way. I was thinking somewhere about 10-12" from the left side. Pretty hard to determine where I want it considering I haven't used it. Thoughts?

There's always call center work if you're not opposed to talking on the phone all day. Not fun, but the benefits are good and the pay is ok. I can PM you some details if you're interested in that. Knoxville area.

I think we may have lost more than we gained with the passage of this bill. Yes, the bill will allow HCP holders to enter restaurants that serve alcohol and choose not to post. Great! Unfortunately, all of those many restaurants, retail stores, supermarkets, gas stations, and other establishments who opted for the "slash through gun" sign that was previously not legally binding are now all officially off limits. Granted, I would prefer to do business with places who don't post, but there are a lot of places that have that type of sign. Also, unless I missed it, there's no regulation as to how large the sign must be, just that it must be at all entrances and visible to the average person. I recall a statement during the debate that the "little stickers" won't do and it had to be an actual sign, but I don't see anything in the bill that prevents the little sticker version of the anti-gun Ghostbusters sign from being considered valid for posting purposes. While I'm on the subject.. I know TGO had (has?) a database of sorts that listed places who posted when dealt with this bill before it was invalidated last year. I was considering putting together a web site specifically to allow people to submit entries of posted places to a database searchable by city, county, etc.. Heck, I could allow all businesses to be listed and configure searches of "posted" or "carry on in" establishments. It would not be difficult from a programming perspective and it may be a useful tool. Thoughts, anyone? It would be a completely non-commercial endeavor (except maybe a Google text ad or two to help pay for hosting expenses). I don't want to reinvent the wheel though. If something is already in place, that's cool. Just thought I'd see if there was interest in such a site.

Some great responses so far. I just wanted to comment on another part of your post. Sonny's is my *favorite* BBQ. Best I've ever had by far. Had it a time or two when it was brought in for work meetings and such. Thanks for being a gun carrying business owner who believes in the right to personal defense. I wish I could carry at work, but I guess that's the advantage you have when you run the place.

HCP course reccomendations for the lady in knoxville area
jcj replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Agreed. Took my class there then sent my ex-wife there to take hers as well. Highly recommended! -
Congrats! Your profile says you have an XD sub-compact. How do you like it? I have the SA XD45 Compact, which isn't particularly compact. It works well in a kholster though.

Nothing wrong with that pocket gun. You just need bigger pockets!
