  1. This has been an interesting thread. I learned about some models that I never knew existed. Not to mention everyone has (so far) managed to remain 100% on topic! Thank you all for the insight into various options!
  2. The black is "Combat Black." Somewhere between matte black and gloss I think. Thanks, Erik! This was my first attempt at duracoat. Looking forward to trying it on something else.
  3. Finally got around to working on this project. The white bits in the first pic are just dust particles. It didn't turn out "perfect", but overall it looks much better than chipping paint. I used the Duracoat "Shake N Spray" kit that comes with the Preval sprayer. The kit was $29.95 from Lauer Weaponry and it isn't bad for the price. I found the Preval sprayer difficult to work with, but it was able to do an acceptable job considering the price point. If I do any more (or this one again) I think I will invest in a quality compressor and airbrush kit. I plan to let everything dry a few more days before I reassemble.
  4. Received my Yugo M57 from SOG today. Overall, not in bad shape. The leather holster has a smell that I don't think will ever go away, but the Tok itself is in decent shape. I completely disassembled and removed all of the cosmoline. Initial Thoughts - I like it. You can see the Browning inspiration in the design. The safety is one of the mandated import safety's, but it seems to be well done. However, the trigger pull feels like it's around 30lb. Very tough! Maintaining accuracy could be a problem. The barrel on my this particular specimen was very agreeable to being cleaned up. It's bright and shiny now. Another thing worth mentioning: These things are *so* simple to take apart. I had it completely apart in ~15 minutes (going slowly to inspect everything). Getting it back together was also theoretically simple, but I did struggle a bit getting the firing pin reinstalled. For < $240 including shipping and hand pick, it is money well spent.
  5. Saw one of those online @ Buds. If they're reliable, the Colt New Agent could be a good option I think.
  6. I'm so sorry for your loss....
  7. I've been thinking about picking up (yet another) 45ACP handgun. Currently I have (in .45ACP): Springfield GI 1911 RIA Compact "Tactical" 1911 I have owned a Springfield XD45 Compact. I sold it to fund another purchase. Nothing wrong with it (I may end up buying another one). I was giving some thought to maybe buying another "compact" .45ACP. Some reasonably priced options that come to mind: Glock 30SF Glock 36 Kahr CW45 S&W M&P 45 Compact Others? Opinions on the above? My Yugo Tokarev will be here tomorrow, but it is neither 45ACP or compact. Should be a lot of fun though.

    M57 Tokarev

Cheapest I found actually in stock was this same Polish surplus that SOG is selling except $50/350 rounds. Definitely more expensive than SOG, but it's something to get shooting with.

    M57 Tokarev

Ordered a Yugo m57 from SOG today. Too bad they're out of stock on the surplus 7.62x25 ammo at the moment.
  10. Wow, Vontar, you're gettin' old bud. Now that I know what year you were born.. Seriously, wish they wouldn't publish all that info, but it is better than it was. Originally they included home address as well.
  11. No premium membership required to post pics as far as I know. Just post em to a photobucket or Google Photos (Picasa) account and put the link here. There are specific instructions floating around here somewhere.

    M57 Tokarev

I've been looking at one of those for my next C&R purchase. The Tok round is supposed to be a fun cartridge.
  13. Congratulations! Just keep cleaning... it's all part of the fun.
  14. Just to update this thread: I decided to give it a go. Just finished disassembling everything tonight. That's the easy part I suppose. My CZ82 now consists of about 15 ZipLoc bags of parts. I'm paranoid I wont remember where things go so I separate parts into bags and label all the bags with the parts they contain. I really need to get a better punch set.
  15. Haha. Good idea. I could order some free literature from the Brady folks and use that. Don't be too gentle with the thing, Vontar. It's a 9 pound Russian battle rifle, not a pristine showpiece. Takes a bit of convincing to get those barrel bands to cooperate.
  16. I was curious about that as soon as I saw it. Unfortunately, anything resembling ink was long gone.
  17. Interesting thread started by my misfortune. Lol. I'm actually at the bank now working on sorting it out. My card stealing Nemesis was very busy in the past couple of days. Dickies, Old Navy, Hostelbookers.com (booking a stay I imagine).
  18. Nope. $69ea + shipping to my door. Two rifles and 440rds of ammo was $259 shipped.
  19. Got my mosin nagant from AIM earlier this week. Upon breaking it down, I found some oiled up newspaper wedged between the handguard and the barrel. Cheap way to bed the barrel I guess? Well, the paper was destroyed while I cleaned up the cosmoline. Now that its back together I've noticed I can now grab the muzzle end of the rifle and rock the barrel a couple of millimeters inside the stock. I made sure the screws were tight where the action bolts down. Obviously the paper bedding was there to solve this problem, but is this normal? Just making sure there's no safety issue.
  20. Someone somewhere is enjoying some quality merchandise on my dime. At some point in the last 3 days my Visa debit card # was stolen. I make it a habit to check my bank account online fairly regularly. When I checked tonight I was in for a shock. Completely wiped out in virtually no time! My last two (legitimate) online purchases were from Lauer Weaponry and AIM Surplus. That's not to say that either are responsible since it is conceivable my card # was in the hands of the evildoer for longer than the past few days. This person apparently really needed some new clothes. A lot of new clothes... I contacted VISA as soon as I found out (bank is closed at this hour) and they were kind enough to block the card for me. Tomorrow I get to wander down to my bank and see what I'm in for there...
  21. Enjoy, Vontar. I ordered two from AIM yesterday. UPS has them and they should be delivered to the house on Tuesday. My first C&R purchase! Two Mosin Nagants and 440rds of ammo should make for a fun range trip next weekend.
  22. That's the same guide I plan on using. Assuming that guide is accurate, I think I can do it...given enough time.
  23. Thinking about refinishing a CZ82 in Duracoat. I found a decent guide online, but I keep hearing horror stories about how difficult the CZ82 is to put back together. Any TGOers tackled one? Is it really that bad?
  24. Good luck! Use the time to save money for purchases. I already ordered two Mosin Nagants from AIM.
  25. Received my C&R License today. Applied on 3/4, received 4/7. Not bad at all.
