Picked it up today! My pictures aren't quite as good as SA's, but... I like this thing!
-
Don't know much about em, but that one sure looks good!

Thanks! I will. Hoping it will be ready for me to pick up tomorrow. I've been pleased with the service I received from the company I bought it from so far. Ordered it from Kentucky Gun Company. They seem to have a nice selection and their site is easy to navigate. I ordered on Monday night, they called me Tuesday afternoon to let me know they just received my FFL's information but I missed the day's last pickup time for USPS. It went out this morning via Priority Mail and should be at my FFL tomorrow or Friday.

That answers one question I had. I wasn't sure how well the finish holds up under normal use on these. Based on what I've read the ArmoryKote finish is pretty decent.

Ok, this one is not mine. Mine is in the hands of the USPS on the way to my FFL for transfer. Sometime this week I will be the owner of a new Springfield Lightweight Champion Operator. I really wanted to buy a 1911 sometime this year as my way of commemorating the 100th anniversary. I probably should have bought a Colt Government model...or at least a non-railed gun. However, I've been wanting one of these for some time now and they're apparently somewhat difficult to find. It'll work.

Wow. I hauled some trash off the 55yd range up there just this past weekend. Didn't go up to the other side to see what it looked like. Thanks for helping keep it clean!

The CZ82 is easy to deal with in that regard. I went with the cheap all-in-one Duracoat kit that included a can of their Tru-Strip cleaner. The factory paint just wiped off. That was a few months ago and the Duracoat is holding up well so far.

That SIG POW/MIA of yours is really nice. Regular cleaning is a ritual. I clean every gun shot as soon as I get back from the range and my carry gun gets a weekly cleaning. The 1911 is a bit of a puzzle. It doesn't seem to stick/hang in that spot when hand cycling. I slowly hand cycled several rounds through when I got home and it never failed to return to battery. Also couldn't get the Tokarev trigger to malfunction again after I got it home to inspect it. Maybe it was just not my day to be shooting. I'm glad I didn't shoot my EDC gun. It has never failed in over 1,000 rounds and I have a feeling today would have been the day.

I think so. I reinstalled it and it snaps back toward the frame when lifted/released much more than it did. Must not have had the spring in there just right. Doh!

Finally got to the range today. I was quite excited since I hadn't been in a while. The weather was gorgeous! That's about the highlight of my day. It went something like this: Decided to try out my new and now cerakoted RIA Compact 1911. First shot--failed to return to battery by about 1/4". Second shot, same result. Ok, maybe it needs breaking in? 50 rounds later I've yet to get more than 2 rounds off without a failure (same as the first.one). Could be ammo related. All I had with me was USA Ammo 45. Alright. Let's move on to my good ol' reliable CZ82. It never fails! After the third shot I started getting failures to eject. Didn't even bother troubleshooting, I was irritated and decided I'd try my new Glock 36. Well... G36 locks the slide back after every single round. I think I isolated that to a problem with the extended slide stop lever. No punches with me to fix it. Ok, next... Yugo M57 Tokarev. This thing has given me problems before, but none in 200 rounds since a trip to the gunsmith. Second mag in and the trigger failed to reset...the same issue I had fixed previously. Realizing today wasn't my day for handguns, I shot 90 rounds through my Spikes Tactical AR then packed up and headed home.

Wow. Nice looking blades.

I got this back from a Cerakote refinish last week. Rock Island Armory Compact (Officer size) in black & titanium Cerakote. As is probably quite obvious, the grips are still the factory RIA grips. I admit to being indecisive when it comes to picking out grips and accessories. Help me out here, folks. I'd like some recommendations on what you think would look good on this gun. Price is a consideration, but anything under $100 is what I'm generally looking at. The holster used as a prop here is a *very* nice OWB model made for me by TGO'er gregintenn.

They're ok. I ordered some .223 from them a while back. No problems.

Thanks to some inspiration from some of your G36's, I made a couple of minor upgrades to mine today. Extended slide stop lever, decal grips, slug plug, and a new slide back-plate (with tactical cat-hair attachment for the photo.. ) I thought the extended slide stop lever would make it easier to drop the slide from the lever, but it is still oh-so-difficult. It was impossible before, now it is just insanely hard. (I usually just use the slide instead of the lever, but still..) Is that a Glock thing? This one was previously owned when I bought it, but it was manufactured in May of this year and looks like it really hasn't been shot much.

"Horseback riding, bicycling, and ORV use" and they want the fee. Driving through to the range doesn't require it. Does it make sense? Not really. Their logic probably has something to do with the fee being used for trail maintenance. Staying on the "road" and you're not technically using the trails. Its TWRA. Not that I don't appreciate what they do, but a lot of rules/regs don't necessarily make sense.
-
Per my chat with TWRA, the North Cumberland WMA land use permit is not required as long as you are in transit to and from the range in a car/truck. I also called the local ffl/sports shop and they advised the same.
-
Looks like you've added the extended slide stop. I should have one for mine in a day or two.
-
The statement on the TWRA site here: Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency - North Cumberland Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Riding Area states that these permits "must be purchased for horseback riding, bicycling, and ORV use." I'll see if I can get some clarification from TWRA as to whether or not that applies to driving a standard car/truck to access the shooting range.
-
I thought that only applied to riding bikes/ATVs.

I looked at an M&P 9mm today. Very nice and the adjustable backstraps are definitely a plus. Price being equal I probably would have taken the M&P home.

I've never owned a Glock...until now. Of course I had to buy the oddball single stack G36. I ran across this gently used G36 today and figured I'd bring it home to see if I can learn to like a Glock. It feels pretty good in my hands. Hoping to get it to the range tomorrow to try it out. I went with the 36 because I like the feel of the narrower single stack gun since I mostly shoot 1911s. The fact it was used and therefore not very expensive was also an incentive. I can't really find any wear marks on it and it was very hard to distinguish between this one and the NIB model sitting next to it. It doesn't seem that there are lot of accessories for the G36. That's understandable since it is sort of an odd model. I will probably pick up an aftermarket barrel so I can shoot my reloads without worry. Otherwise I'm not sure if there's anything else it really needs. I just sit here and keep looking at it thinking: "Well, it...it....it...it is...ugly." Once I make sure it is reliable (as it should be) I'll start tracking down a decent holster for it. Probably a model from Shielded Holsters or a CB Supertuck. I picked up a cheap Desantis "Insider" IWB holster to use temporarily until I get something better.

That leaves 1.1% for the Linux crowd. Uh oh, I'm part of a minority! Quick, Congress needs to pass some feel-good laws to make sure I'm not discriminated against. OP, good luck with your computer shopping.
