  1. When tax rates were higher (pre and post WWII), companies essentially had nationalities - just like individuals had nationalities.   -ownership was aware of and protective of the United States as a nation.   That is no longer the case.  I don't have a solution... but it's a different problem than it was back then.   -wish it weren't so...
  2. ... to be clear, my wife was a scholarshipped D1 Volleyball player.  She CAN shoot .40  .... she just doesn't like it.   I don't have the same issue, but I certainly respect her in it.
  3. I flew home last week and am home until the first of the year.  I loved flying right out of college... 2 or 3 flights a week - was always asleep before we took off.   Fast forward, have a couple of kids, and now it is a (technically very low) risk that I would rather not take.  .... but it comes with the job.   Be well as you guys travel!   -swivel-
  4. ^^  :bowrofl:   I can see the risk assesment matrix now....
  5. If there are no signs of "tunneling" along the surface (ala moles), then it is most likely chipmunks.  I love all chipmunks... that are not in my yard.
  6. I have a vortex 8x R/T monocular that I use.  2 binos that I have used in the last year stood out to me.   1) Vorex HD 10x....  I was embarrassed how much I liked that glass.  - that said, I didn't think they were worth the price to go and buy one. 2) Zeiss's Range-finding Binoculars.  -used them at a 1,000yd competition.  I could spot hits easily out to 800.
  7. ruger,  was it windy?
  8. ... You nailed it. There lies my problem. Regardless of the caliber, to start with, I need one more G23! ... Hmmmm... How to inform the wife.... ?
  9. FYI: I tried going the budget route.... and ended up buying a second spotting scope later in the $400 range.   What caliber are you checking targets on at 200-300yds?   .308 or 30-06 are much easier to see than smaller calibers.   If you want to see .223 holes at 200-300yds, asking a budget spotting scope to do that is asking a lot.  -shoot 'n see targets will help.
  10. -for those asking, here are the reason I think about switching:   - so that my wife will be more comfortable with everything in the safe.    -the G43-G19 pairing.   -I dry fire a lot (I know..., it's a problem),  and I am very wary of .40 cases and setback/OAL after being chambered, so.... I rotate, but even then it bugs me having to even be concerned with it.     I shoot .40 well, and I have no problem with follow-up shots.  It is probably a bit snappy for my wife.  She can shoot lights-out given time, but she does not enjoy the sharp recoil of the .40
  11. FWIW - I've been training with and carrying 165gr .40 for years now.
  12. So, I have a G23 and a BG380.     For carry ammo, I use Remington Golden Saber or Winchester PDX1 (winter months).   I am toying with the idea of converting over to 9mm, but I am (probably for no good reason) holding onto the phantom thought that the .40 would give me some advantage in the proverbial "worst moments of my life".   We've all beat this into the ground before, but if I'm going to change over, what round am I going to carry?   Do I stay with .40?
  13. That's a heck of a deal for Golden Saber.  Even though it may not perform as well through winter clothing, it has a great reputation.
  14. Glad you are safe!
  15. so odd to me that someone who was about to shoot an innocent, unarmed woman - point blank, just shrugs and walks away when the rifle doesn't fire.     I think it is likely he was out of ammunition, but still so odd, that he doesn't strike her, or make any other aggresive movement toward anyone.     Does that puzzle anyone else?
  16. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/news/video-1230096/Incredible-moment-woman-survives-Paris-gunman-tries-shoot.html   If no one has posted this link yet, it is security footage of one of the Paris attacks - a cafe.   There are a lot of rounds that come in - fast.  ... and then when he goes in for the point blank, his AK doesn't fire, he walks away.  Lucky, lucky people.   -that said, it would be hell to try to return fire with that many rounds coming inbound.
  17. So, as excited as my son and I are to see Star Wars, we are going to wait.     I would hope that local Police (and SWAT) team up with theaters to provide heavy, undisclosed security at theaters for this opening.   Would it make sense to advertise that heavy, unprecedented, and unspecified security measures will be present?  Could this possibly cause an attacker or attackers to drop (insert city here) as a target?     thoughts...?
  18. We stuck close in until the fog lifted as well. It was thick, and I've enough stories of bass boats and barges.... good luck, fishing, fellas!
  19. Bighting pretty good this morning.  - on the south bank starting about 3/4 mile below the club all the way down to Alan Jackson's old house on the lake.   BAIT: THE bait this morning was:  Chartreuse Buzz bait (they consistently hit 2 or 3 blade) w/ white trailer. METHOD:  slow burble just at the surface.  They hit 4-12 feet from the bank every time.     -might want to keep the trailer short - I missed several hook-ups... probably just me... but could've missed them because the fish were not huge and my trailer was too long.     Good luck!
  20. Bodyguard 380 has left me nothing to complain about... it is small.  I don't mind the trigger at all.
  21. For those who don't know me, I don't have a stance in the religion conversation... so I'm not on anyone's "side".   Here's the short of the story for your enjoyment...   Ramsey: "I would encourage my fellow Christians who are serious about their faith to think about getting a handgun carry permit," Ramsey wrote. "I have always believed that it is better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it. Our enemies are armed. We must do likewise."   Clemons: "There is an eerie absence of logic in his statement that ties one's Christian faith to firearms ownership that is offensive to all religions," Clemmons said. "Senator Ramsey is essentially saying that we should all run out and get a handgun carry permit to prove how serious we are about our Christian faith."    ... no, no that's not what he was saying at all.   :bowrofl:
  22. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/10/03/tennessee-lt-gov-ron-ramsey-says-fellow-christians-should-arm-themselves/?intcmp=hpbt2     It's not Ron Ramsey's post that gets me.  I might not have said it the way he did... or in ithe venue he did, but most of us here are for personal responsibility no matter your beliefs... so....   It is the Dem. representative's complete mis-statement of the intent of Ramsey's post that makes me bellylaugh.  It could be a quote from a Will Ferrell movie.   Enjoy.
  23. So sorry to hear this - whatever the cause, whatever the reasons.  This. is. awful.
