  1. We'll be in town for a day or so, staying the night at a hotel. I've read through as much NC carry info as I can find. Is there anything vastly different from TN that I need to know? Thanks all-
  2. Does anybody carry remington 165gr Golden Saber? If so, do you have a FMJ round that you train with that matches pretty well with it? (I can't stand UMC ammo; it is the filthiest shooting ammo I have ever seen.)
  3. Thanks guys- About FMJ and junting - right, right. understood, but this thread is just asking about the combo making the .40 more effective against (attacking) animals that it might not take down with just HP in a defensive situation. anybody have experience with this - ever heard of it before?
  4. Whatever the reason for being in the backcountry, hiking, hunting, etc. I am pondering a backcountry practice of carrying my magazines loaded with alternating FMJ and JHP. Anyone else do this? Are there any legal issues? ( I can't think of any, but it is late, . . and my brain is off - so I'll ask.) - again, this is for a self defense firearm, not for the actual hunting. I carry a Glock 23, so I would be carrying with a 180grain bonded JHP in the chamber, and then alternating between that round and a 180grain FMJ throughout the magazine. I will test a good bit to be sure it feeds - unless someone on here sheds light on my ignorance with a good reason not to load rounds that way. Here's my thinking: The JHP does what it does and provides a wound cavity; the FMJ offer greater penetration and bone-crippling potential on larger 4 legged attackers. I'm wondering if the combo might make the .40 caliber a little more effective than it would be with just JHP. Alright, . . . let err rip.http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/images/smilies/nervous.gif

    Glock 27 or 23

I have a 23. I've shot a 27. They shot the same for me. There is a little difference in size. Even with a MTAC IWB, the 23 feels hard to conceal for me. Im skinny 5:11, 160. When you lay the 27 and the 23 out on the table you think, "hmmph, there's not much difference", but I would think that little bit of difference is magnified once you actually try to conceal the weapon. That's my 1.5 cents.
  6. I went and shot there the other day. Everyone was SUPER nice. The range was uber-clean, quiet, and well. . . . new. The ventilation system works really well. I would be interested in shooting when the lanes are full to see if it clears when full. I did enjoy the challenge of the targeting system. If you are really going to make use of it, . . bring a LOT of rounds. I am a mini-range pass holder at CCA. It is close to my house; the guys/gals at CCA are also always very nice to me, and the cost of mini-range pass at Frontier is more than I can/will pay. BUT I will go there every now and then to shoot. I will also take my wife there when she shoots - she gets a bit spooked at CCA. I understand. Wrap up: Frontier: New, Nice, Great Experience. quiet, quiet, quiet. Target system "new" factor takes away some focus on your first visit, so get it out of your system and come back second time ready to work. CCA: Not New (so what), Loud ( I know), Ventilation is sub-par, lights are often out in the lanes (since when is your BG going to be well lit at 7yds), but it is priced right and close, and I am thankful to have developed a repore with the guys/gals at CCA that makes being there more than pleasant.
  7. So, you like the Gen4? I'm curious about the grip - if it feels more like an XD, then I might have to pick up a Gen4 23! Recoil any different on the Gen4?
  8. -sorry - post duplicated. must be O.E.
  9. @Jasongar8 - What exactly do you have in your gunshot kit? I have some quickclot that I try to keep with me, but I don't even know if that would work in a gunshot. Do you have trauma wisdom to share with us? It would be appreciated.
  10. wow! Back from the dead! x82para, I hope this pans out for you. Let us know what Glock said/did when you get it back. I still haven't sent the Glock in. I have been shooting it some - haven't had a FTF since the last time I posted. ?? Who knows. I've got to get some time on the range with a good amount of ammo. happy topic resurrection to all
  11. aquaman67 - thanks for your service - and congrats on the WWW.
  12. So I've had my permit a while, but just got an MTAC holster today, . . I had to go pick up a subweigh platter for dinner tonight - my first time to carry out of the house. . . . I get to the counter @ subweigh - wondering if I'm printing - and then the clerk can't sell me the platter - a manager approval is needed! Platter is all made up - sitting right in front of me, but I can't buy it because there's no manager in the store! So I hang out while the other 5 people in the store stare at me . . . and then have a nice conversation with a couple about parenthood. So much for in and out. I'm sure I'll get an official WallyWorld Walk in soon.
  13. New Recoil Spring and New Mag Spring from Glock yesterday. went and shot 50rnds today. 2 FTFs. I know that my wrist was locked out. bummer. off to Glock it goes. . . . so I won't see it for a while. hopefully it will come back a more reliable gun.
  14. Andrewsky, thanks - Page 4 of this thread - you can see a pic of one my G23's FTFs - pretty typical 45-90 degree FTF - mostly 45-60 degree angle to the chamber. As far as the extractor, . . .yeah, . . I don't know. maybe? A gunsmith at the range has looked at it, and couldn't "see anything wrong".
  15. CK1 -I appreciate your dialogue on this thread, and I think you may be missing the point of my last post, which was: If limp-wristing is such a sure way to get this Glock to FTF, then it would've been MUCH MORE LIKELY to happen when I was new to the gun. That's all. I never said that it is " it's without a doubt not" me; what I said was, "Could it be me, . . not likely." One is a statement of absolutes, the other is a statement of probability. Really, I'm ignorant enough; please don't paint me out to be more than I already am. Easy on the attack of the bewildered Glock-owner. Not everyone who has a failure with a Glock is incapable of proper grip, stance, and trigger pull. I agree with your point about the spring; as I am keeping closer tabs on these failures, I'm also realizing that they are not as random as you are making them out to be. Always from a 3/4 or more full mag. Always during slow firing, always at the bottom of (last few rounds in) the mag. Again, if it was limp-wristing, then why have I had NO STOVEPIPES or FTE during all of this. . had one the second day I shot the gun (before all of this started) - not one FTE since! I have also had one FTF with snap caps cycling while dry-firing (same place in mag). This week I labeled my mags, and so far have only had a failure with #2. . . we'll see if that trend continues. I'll post a pic of my grip soon, but I can tell you it is high on the receiver, with the slide pointing in a straight line toward my elbow, first joint of my index finger and thumb of my right hand are lined up through the receiver, my left hand comes along with my left thumb just under my right thumb, as high toward the slide as they can be, pointing straight down the slide, the rest of the fingers on my left hand are wrapped around and pulled in tight over my right hand on the receiver - tucked up under the trigger-guard. I grip it tight, weaver stance with push-pull working toward balance. Important thing you guys may not be hearing: NO FTEs to go along with all of these FTFs.
  16. Glock tech support had asked me to shoot some more and call them back on Tuesday (3 days ago), so I did. I called Glock back again yesterday, and then again today and finally got in touch with them. They were "working down the list" to call me back . . . from Tuesday morning. Short story: They still suspect ammo - which I am leery of, but today, they wanted me to send the gun to them - 6 weeks without my only carry weapon -(which struck a bad note with me, since they had told me last week that if the problem was still happening by Tuesday that they would send me a mag and recoil spring), I protested lightly and they agreed to send me a mag and recoil spring to see if they were the culprits. The Glock representative was, at every point, courteous and respectful, but I got the impression that he suspects user error. Well, I am as certain as I can be that my grip is good, my stance is solid, and my groupings are reasonably tight even at a decent firing rate, and I am not the only one who's had this G23 jam. Could it be the ammo, . yes. Could it be me, . . not likely. Back when I first got this G23, my first 150 rounds were with a mediocre understanding of grip, and a new experience with the G23's recoil, . .. and in those first days, not one FTF. It was only later (weeks) after 200 rounds or so and a much greater understanding of proper grip and stance for handgun that all of this started. Magazines are labeled, and testing will continue, . . .
  17. Thanks all- My G23 gets cleaned thoroughly every time I shoot it. NO oil or lube has ever been in the striker channel. Polymer-Safe Gun Scrubber is the only thing that makes its way everywhere on this gun (and the FTFs had shown up before I started that). I sure do hope that it's a mag problem. Gee whiz I'd like to get this behind me and just have a regular old G23. . . not any better or any worse than any other.
  18. So I'll be talking with Glock again tomorrow. This (picture) was the only FTF today - early in the session, 2nd full magazine. It was the 13th round out of a full mag. Federal WallyWorld ammo. jammed at a 45 degree angle to the chamber. Glock had asked me to shoot some more and see if it kept happening; well, I get at least one FTF every trip to the range. It is always near the end of a magazine, and to date, has always been during slow firing - never during rapid firing (probably coincidence). I shot another 120 rounds after that (Federal and Speer Lawman) with no more FTFs out of either magazine. (FYI- the gun in the picture is pointing downrange, secured by my hand, as well as the trigger is "safe"). Does this give anyone any clues as to what's going on? Thanks-
  19. I got a call-back from Glock today; as always, they were stand-up and asked me to shoot a little more this weekend. If I am still having the problem, they want to send me a new recoil spring and magazine. They suspect the recoil spring may be weak. ?? We'll see, but I'm thankful for their response and willingness to help make this right. more later. . .
  20. Thanks for clarification. . . ok, so any clue as to what that means for working toward diagnosing this problem?
  21. Thnx. So - could it just be that - being so new, the spring is a little strong? That would explain that FTF when seating the mag.
  22. Great questions: All recent ammo has been 180grain - A while ago I did shoot some 155grain WWB - which actually fed really well. So: A) my buddy is an experienced shooter - more with kimber and sig than Glock, but shooting is very much a part of his profession. Let's just say he's a protects some stuff for Uncle Sam that we really don't want any bad guys to get near. - again, though, good point in that he does not spend all of his time with Glocks. I'll just say that it's a little frustrating that his Kimber .45 had absolutely zero issues while we both shot it yesterday, and my ultra-reliable Glock continued with its shenanigans. I'm beginning to be more hesitant to think that it is "us". B)exactly that - loading a fresh mag (10-12 rounds in it) and slamming it home which releases the slide and, hopefully chambers a round - 3 times it failed to chamber the round when the slide released (just slamming the mag in - not using the slide release lever). C) The gun is new - purchased new from a dealer in December of 09. No mods - no work done on it. Thanks again.
  23. So I went to the range yesterday with a buddy and we shot about 175 rounds through the gun. 50 of them were speer lawman (the rest were WallyWorld Federal). It never jammed with me - no FTFs with me, but my buddy had one FTF during slow firing, and 3 FTF when slamming a mag into the well. He seemed to think there was something goofy with the gun causing the FTFs. I shot 3 or 4 full mags at med-high cadence and got no jams. ?? Calling Glock back today to try and suss this out.
  24. You guys sure are nice about the limp-wristing. We'll see today. I'll be shooting with some guys that protect our nation for a living. If I get FTFs and they don't. . . well. . . I guess I get my "man-card" temporarily revoked. ha! thanks again. update later tonight.
  25. Called Glock this morning. Tech support suspects me (wrist) or the ammo. We agreed I should go shoot some higher brow ammo and call them back later today. No arm twisting needed. . . It happens with both magazines that shipped with the gun. I might pick up a 3rd magazine today before I shoot. Also - the failure to Feed happens in a couple of ways. 1) The fresh round jams at an approx. 45 degree angle on the feed ramp 2) The fresh round jams at a 90 degree angle (with the round barely sticking out of the silde) -the angle of the jammed round varies, but it has mostly been around the 45 degree mark. I am going to go and shoot some speer lawman today (Glock support liked that idea)- and I'll make doubly sure that I'm not limp-wristing the thing. We'll see if it gets better.
