  1. Nice! Sure... Except if you remember 2007/2008, it doesn't take but just a hiccup for us to be in a hurt ourselves. .. Especially since Georgia keeps suing us for water. As populations rise, our abundance of water could make the Tennessee valley the most desirable place to live in the CUS. That, of course, will make it an undesirable place to live for most of us. Think New York... in Nashville. Boy, we better get working on public transport.
  2. -LWRC REPR. people who have shot them have been known to sell all manner of things (including 516s) to fund one. I was just messing with Sonny. again, the 516 is a great rifle. carry on-
  3. somebody is jonesing for a repr! 516 is great.

  5. today while cleaning out. I had a great childhood. Here's to providing more and more experiences like this for our kids and grandkids.
  6.      "Oh, Taco Bell was the only one that survived the franchise wars; now every restaurant is Taco Bell."  (Valet) "Hello, welcome to Taco Bell."   This sanitizing of society wreaks of a certain movie - ok a lot of movies.        Well, most all of California is one mediocre natural disaster away from absolutely no fresh water.  Forget the earthquakes.  That land is not equipped to support masses of people.  Whether I agree with them in their life/gov't philosphy, my heart goes out to families should they ever wake up to a home that will not support life.        I can appreciate all of them a fellow humans, but we (the rest of America) need to find and market/sell another culture to ourselves (and our kids).     Campaign for those who will make a difference, and help/encourage friends and family to get to the poles to vote.  I'm beginning to think Libertarians are the most likely hope.  - wouldn't of thought that 3 years ago.
  7. Ran into Doc S. at the Shrimp Dock a few years ago. Blew me away. I wore my "Nashville" role and pretended he was a nobody.
  8. yup.  now if we could only get Cabelas to want to come to Bellevue again.      I agree with the sentiment that being successful in such an endeavor requires a complex mix of consumer savvy (both target and tangential markets), impecable timing, and ... luck.   It also would most likely have to grow from very, very small and humble roots - being vigilant about overhead.   I'd love to do this; I can just see the kids' faces (and their parents') when they drink the water they just "harvested" from the grass with  their t-shirts at the second part of a two-meeting training for kids on survival water.  ... and it may happen some day....
  9. In the larger blood vessels, blood moves very, very fast.  not so much in capillaries.   ... so, that's a tough one.
  10. The story is on LWRC's forum since it was and LWRC rifle. This guy and his M6 against a raging wild bull. Barnes 70gr TSX Wowser. If we are allowed to post links to another forum, someone let me know, and I'll post the link.
  11. No bubbles burst here. If it could succeed, it would have to be innovative in creating/finding/retaining margins and profit... Period. ... And I know that takes a good bit of smarts and just a dang lot of hard work.... And still no guaranties. Great advice and dreaming guys. Keep it coming if you've got more, and I'll be stewing on this.
  12. Ha! No need to be sorry. Each person knows what they need. I am of the opinion that, regardless of our philosophy on personal ammo reserves, we will all be better off if the supply chain catches up to demand. When I can help that happen, I will. We're all connected in this. Remember the girl analogy in "A Beautiful Mind". Our ammo economy is a lot like that.
  13. I was at a WM yesterday and saw 4 variants of .223. The American Eagle was overpriced and had been out over 24hrs. The Winchester varmint... Didn't ask, and the Remington 50ct box had just gotten put out. Tulammo.... don't care, I don't shoot steel case. I left it all, and I hope we all start doing the same, then maybe it will be there when we need it.
  14. Fantastic thoughts. fyi: I would run the organization; experts would teach the classes/skills. If it is something I qualify as an expert in, I may teach the skill,.... may. It's interesting that you all are envisioning exactly what I have been seeing. CHP classes is an interesting thought. I'm not sure I want to leech from other LGS; in fact, I would like their support in cross-marketing. If the other indoor range(s) in the area are full and there is still demand, then it could be a possibility.
  15. Great responses. There is much research to do, so consider yourselves the first focus group!!! There are no guaranties in any retail setting, and if you are selling any "common" goods, you are competing against amazon, eBay, Walmart, etc.... fighting the same war that huge entities like Best Buy are struggling to stay in (much less win!). But. I am more of a fan of being the best in the world at one thing. If we did this, it would be grounded in making customers feel like dear family, and truly understanding each customer's situation and unique needs/wants would be every employee's mission. I am also a fan of creating the market (Apple, love them or hate them have been the best at this in the history of retail). That means great grass roots marketing presence, overwhelmingly good experiences for every customer, and selling the idea of being prepared to the average James and Jennifer (being an Eagle Scout, it's an addiction that is hard to break). What else!?
  16. Soliciting opinions, rants, suggestions, what you would like to see, etc.   Do you think there is a value for our middle TN community for a dedicated storefront that specializes in prep (from mild to major), and provides a place for training (how to use what you buy, HAM classes, preparedness assessments, etc).   -I would hope that the "everyday dad/mom" who would never consider themselves a "prepper", could feel at home in the store and wind up being glad they visited.  Heck, we might even be able to raise awareness and help Nashville become the most disaster prepared city in the nation.  ??   I would also think an online storefront would hit at the same time - hopefully being able to move enough merchandise that prices in the local storefront can be enjoyable.     I'm considering, and I'm all ears...
  17. The sound of thunder rolling in is amazing.  I'm working to help my kids move from frightened to amazed....  :)
  18. I'll second Frozen Head; it is beautiful - there is a lot of history in them there hills.   ;)   ... and if the kids get unruly, it's a short walk to the pen - either brushy mountain ... or it's replacement.   My only gripe with Frozen Head is that you drive by a penitentiary and a major landfill - on the same road as you enter the park.... so that may be a deterent.
  19. Indian Boundry is beautiful in the fall.  - simple, pretty, and an excuse to drive the skyway.
  20. It sounds good until Uncle Sam assumes you are doing something unacceptable. Any way around that? (rabbit trail)
  21. great thoughts, c.a. I will make a trip to Clarksville sometime and would enjoy the hang time. I am always glad to learn.
  22. All better now.  Thank you, sirs.
  23. Good thoughts.   Well, if everything is contaminated and sanitation services are gone, it'sbetter to have just enough water at that point.... ie. a semi-arid climate with a water source.  Extremely low relative humidity will cut down on the bathing and washing - though it will increase rate of dehydration through respiration.  - so your water source might just be a nightly condensation farm.     Being here in TN with all water sources contaminated and no sanitation is a tough spot.  There are more mouths to feed than anyone can imagine.... which means there is a much bigger sanitation issue than most can imagine.  And in the winter??  - ever seen the pictures of Cumberland Gap in the Civil war?  Even in the 1860's -with less need for energy and less people to sustain, our country's forests were laid bare before and after the industrial revolution.  One's best bet is to figure out how to live where no one else wants to be.  Any climate that is temperate to tropical could fast become a disease wasteland.
  24. I have a Katadyn Vario with a supply of filters.    It's my line between ideal and real.   Review here.   I should be buying filters like I buy ammo - a little here and there - and a backup housing... or two.  :)
  25. Thanks guys.   Drain line was a little clogged, and coils were dirty.   I'll report back when it's all settled out.
