  1. http://www.wkrn.com/story/23401654/k-9-officer-in-critical-condition I love dogs, and this sometimes happens even with great care. but a pursuit in 90deg sunshine!? The article says they "rotated dogs, but this k-9 collapsed after only 20min". a malanois running a trail for 20min straight in 90deg heat!!! ? Seems to me that if the citizen public is liable for assault of an officer when defending themselves against the teeth of an "attacking" dog, then those overseeing this team out to be held accountable when ordering or authorizing this stuff - treating these pups as expendable. Without knowing more specifics, it is at most, questionable, but I do not think the pup was accorded the respect of an officer. Seems to be a bit of a double standard.
  2. Smith, I'm sorry to hear about your friend's passing. I guess there are two wonderful gentlemen who are being celebrated this week.
  3. ...one is for my Grandaddy. It will be under his best suit tomorrow, and I will crack a smile and remember him every time I pull one of the other three out of the drawer. Kind of neat to be able to share one last thing. 93 years old, Army Air Force in WWII, retired firefighter, was a loving husband for 65 years. When my son and I pluck sweet potatoes out of the ground, peel them with my pocket knife, and savor earth and sun, saying, "How sweet it is!", my heart will be full - knowing that my son is going to be at least a little bit like the great grandad that loved us so well.
  4. I can honestly say, that is not a gun for a straight man. The thought of gripping that gun gives me.... well, the willies.
  5. 100yds for a 44mag is stretching out there. 50-75 is a long shot in the woods, so you seem to have it covered - great brush gun!
  6. I want my wife and kids to experience it often.  I'd like it to always be making the rounds in the world.   In the past, I had been known to be too assertive for some folks' taste.  In ways, that disturbed the peace and hamstrug wonderful plans; now that screen name reminds me that it's usually easier to be productive when things/people/relationships are at some level of peace.

    SW BodyGuard 380?

Agreed 10-Ring.   Really, my only gripe with the BG is the firing pin scandal... or so to speak.  I have read about lots and lots of folks having firing pin issues.  S&W may have fixed the issue, but because they never owned up to it publicly, we, the consumers just don't know.     Hopefully Galloway Precision has come up with a solution that doesn't expose another weak link.

    SW BodyGuard 380?

I'm sorry for the trouble. You are certainly not alone. And that laser... Well... neat little training aid.... That is, if any of us felt secure dry firing it.... Which I don't. :) I bought with disregard for the laser. At .380 distances, there will be no time, and therefore there is no need.
  9. I was taken with them the other day too ... then I saw the price (on the new ones). I think you got a good deal. The market is the market. I just couldn't believe that the little ole revolver that I learned to shoot when I was younger was going for such a pretty penny. Great, fun little guns. Congrats!!!
  10. Never mind... Just saw "rim fire". Are you talking about the ruger 22 revolvers? They were pricey!!
  11. "Bacon. Is Good. For me!" -the bacon kid
  12. ...and if you are going to get a retreiver or lab, get a pup from a reputable breeder, and a few weeks before you get it, purchase and read Richard Wolters' "Game Dog", twice (or "Gun Dog" - or any of the versions).  Keep it simple, positive, and absolutely consistent, and you will have one winner of a dog.
  13.   small pup huh?   What is it they call those things? ..... Coyote burrito?   Sometimes fences are good for keeping things in.....  sometimes fences are good for keeping things out.
  14.      In my experience, a best-friend kind of dog, a dog that you are inseperable from - and one that is inseperable from you.... one who has lived a full life, loved well and been loved well, one that has come to the end of his/her life and earned a hallowed spot in on you property - that is the only kind of dog that won't run off.        Even for that dog, any of the years before that are part of the wonderful game. After all, they are dogs.  Scent hounds (and most dogs) can smell a spicey chicken sandwich  12 miles away (and all of the other dogs in the "neighborhood"). Sight hounds will take off after any small game they see.... it's just what they do.  Dogs were mostly bred to cover ground and track/hunt/catch/find.  They are the designed to explore.         If our e-fence ever goes down, our fixed, 10yr old female weim will just as soon scoot across town to see all that she can see as stay in the yard.  Like a teenager, she'd think, "see ya at dinner time!" and be gone.        That said, a Golden Retreiver or a Lab (pick your color) are easy choices.  There are a ton of great family breeds, but labs and retreivers are A-lister common family dogs.  A good underground or above-ground fence will take a lot of stress out of your lives.  If it helps sway you, our family lost a dog when I was a small kid - hit by a car.  That's especially rough on the kids (and the parents).   I've learned a lot from my pups over the years, so good luck, and congrats on whatever you get!
  15. :pleased:  peejman, hopefully you are right.  It has just been drilled into my head how critical (and maybe mythologically fragile) the crown is.     As for the loop-thingy.  I don't think it is technically a jag, so I don't know what the heck to call it.   If the barrel shoots like a flint-lock smooth bore, I"ll report back.
  16. ... I would be better off just going to bed.  First off, let me say, I know better.        Last night I was cleaning my LWRC M6 and did something I never do.  I used a plastic swab loop.  Well, it got stuck, and the aluminum rod (something else I'll never do again) started to bend as I was trying to push it through.  It was just past the chamber, and when I tried to pull it back out, (I know) the plastic loop broke off in the barrel.        ugh.  In my (now late-night) insanity, after not being able to push it through, I ran the rod through the muzzle (even better, right?) and tried to ram it back - in the process I reamed some aluminum off of the rod with my crown.....  at that point, I came to my senses a bit; I stopped and went in and sat down for a while  - with the jag still in the barrel.  (wondering if I had just "purchased" a new 16" - spiral fluted barrel - with an obstruction and possible ruined crown - might as well upgrade)        Eventually, I filled up the barrel with CLP from both ends, and used shorter pieces of the rod to hammer the jag out from the breach (I had a breach guard/guide in this whole time).  After that, I got out my perfectly functional Otis kit (since I couldn't find my TIME MACHINE!!) and cleaned the barrel and soaked and sprayed the crown to get all of the aluminum off of it.  Why didn't I do that to start with?  I finally got to bed around 1:00am.        All in all, it could've been worse, but the crown may be toast.  Anyone have thoughts on an aluminum rod vs a nicor'd CHF barrel?  The inside of the barrel looks flawless, the crown looks like it may have been reamed a bit - not sure what it looked like before.  I'm guessing I'll call LWRC today and ask about having it recrowned.     Lesson learned: If you have any cleaning gear that you wouldn't use on any one rifle, maybe just throw it away now, so that you won't be tempted to use it when you have a "attack of laziness".   - hopefully this can help someone else avoid this.
  17. I had a great afternoon at MCSC. Great facility, good folks, and a beautiful drive up River Rd to get there.
  18. Oh, and when you go to "M.L. Rose" bar and grill and get an awesome burger.... just imagine that you are at "Melrose Bar and Grill", and it will feel more awesomer.  I still can't believe they changed the name.
  19. First trip over there. What do I need to know?
  20. What kind of food do you go for? For instance, if you hate "Taste of Thai" (which is a horror of a thought), then we'll leave out Thai places. Off the top of my head. The Pharmacy is an open-air beer garden if beverage and brats are your thing. - East Nashville. If you go, head over to Jenni's Ice Cream after and stand in line for a real treat. Mafioza's Pizza on 12th. I second Maggiano's - and The Italian Market (46th st exit off of I40w) may or may not taste as good, but it is the real deal - family-owned with bocce ball courts out front. Local Taco on Murphy Road [url="http://www.thelocaltaco.com/"] -by McCabe pub and golf course Breakfast: (Near Vandy) -Noshville Deli - Kosher, NY Delicatessen without the whole "being in New York" thing. -Fido's in Hillsboro Village. Awesome breakfast burritos and darn good coffee (Bongo Java- local roast). Oh, and this is a bit of a hipster joint.... more like Tomato Head than DoubleDogs. :) Lunch: -Gabby's Burgers and Fries. If you like burgers, GO!!! Lunch only except for Friday, grass fed beef and the line is out the door on most days for good reason. -Baja Burrito, Berry Hill/100 Oaks. If you like Blue Coast Burrito, this is the mother ship, the original that started it all, FYI: the best staff is on for lunches. -my wife used to eat at a wraps place right across 21st from the main hospital, she loved it.. Don't know if they are still there, but it would be good for a quick bite while at Vandy. (Mellow mushroom, subway, and Starbucks are also right across 21st) Lunch/Dinner: Local Taco - Murphy Road, also right across from McCabe Pub - good grub. As for Thai, you can venture down to cool springs and go to Jasmine. Possibly the best in town. If you like Greek food, Kalamatas in Green hills is pretty good and quick, but if you venture down 65 to Brentwood and find Mediterranean Cuisine in Maryland Farms - we think it is the best Mediterranean food in town. Good guys - We've been ordering from the same guy at the cash register for 10 yrs. Zoe's Kitchen in green hills, kabobs, etc. fast and healthy, no server to tip. For shakes and cheap burgers, etc. try Rotier's off of Elliston (near where it hits broadway/west end). BBQ: While you are in Brentwood, hit up Judge Beans BBQ for a second dinner. Simple, small, awesome. My wife swear's Jack' BBQ downtown is the best in town. Enjoy. You can probably PM any of us Nashville folks if you all need anything while you are here.
  21. Maybe I'll get a better pic nextime.  He was heads' up looking at me while I was trying to get my iPhone and binoculars to play nice.
  22. Happy for you.... like the looser that is happy for the guy that gets the homecoming queen. Seriously, though, have fun!
  23. Thought about white oak WMA in Hardin, Co. I'm having second thoughts. I'm guessing it is a small field.
  24. I see him/her all the time in the field down in the bottom. ... Never up by the house. I was surprised; it is always cautious. This seemed out of character, then a car door shut next door and he took off like lightning. That seemed more normal. Beautiful coat, beautiful. Lucky for the groundhog, our Weim was fast asleep. ...come to think of it, that may have been lucky for all of us.
