I have a friend who is deep into players and the Texas scene. I learned about it when he reported it on Facebook, so .. unless you are him, you are not alone. I would consider him a very informed person about such things.... this was a little wonky. Still - sad times for his family - and the sunset of a great player and force in country music.

From your wording, it seems that you already know this very well, so for those who may be new to firearms who read your post, I will say this: There is no "thinking" you are pointing the gun in a safe direction. You either are or you aren't, and you must, must, must be sure of it. "The Floor" is not a safe direction -unless there cannot possibly be anything below or beyond it that you do not mind destroying. Pointing a firearm at the floor of a second story home... where you cannot see the space occupying the floor directly below you - can never be classified - under any circumstances as pointing the firearm in a safe direction. Rule #4!!!!!!! You must, must, must eat, breath, and live the 4 Laws around firearms. We don't "think" we are following a rule. We take the time and perform the steps to know we are abiding by the 4 laws. The safety of those who learn from us (actively or passively) depends on how we portray and follow the 4 Laws. This is not the realm to be "too cool for school". With that said, we are all human, and we are all capable of making awful mistakes. My condolences to the families and those involved for this unbelievable loss.

Is that the can of independance ammo? I've seen some of that around. If it is Independance 5.56. That stuff takes a 1moa rifle and transforms it magically to a -6 moa rifle. ... but you can still plink with it. Again, if someone confirms that it is Independence, I certainly would not overpay for it. Remington .223 bulk pack was much more consistent.

absolutely... now back to the amusing guesses of what 22"le" could've been. hmmm..... laced with excrement? .. guerilla warfare and all.

For all of you non-TN-resident TGO members... what brought you attracted you to TGO? I seemed to see an up-tic of out-of-state members recently and am curious. Whatever the reason, I'm glad you all are here, and hopefully this community is a positive force in your life. -peace

Fox is reporting another school Shooting right now!!!

It is one thing to have "treasures" of unknowable value collected all in one place.... advertising that those treasures will be unprotected (which happens anew all over the media each time something happens at one of our schools) was/is a sign of dereliction of parenthood by our society - as a whole. -
Ok , Heres the challenge, lets see some answers

Sewer containtment "dome".... if an incandecent lightbulb bursting can blow it to kingdom come... I'm guessing that should be a gun-free zone. I mean, you can draw and fire... you just might not be around to see who won the fight... not to meantion, who in the world is going to follow you down there to do anything! I will admit ignorance of security threats, but I cannot imagine an instance where a standard firearm would be a good idea on the space station... unless you have level III protection from the inside out. That place is not like an airplane... a hole would be a much, much more serious issue... - equalibrium and the laws of physics and such.. -
My guess would be that it depends if the barrel was forged or milled. - others that know more than myself will chime in. Even so, there is much info on the inter-webs, and if you have the time and the ammo, the ritual can never hurt... sort of like being on a first date. Take your time and get to know her.

FWIW: This amazing human is now a Paraplegic. He suffered a serous spinal injury earlier this fall in a competition. In recovery, he worked with his editors to finish this video... as that was his main goal for 2013. There is much I could learn from such an individual. So when you see his amazing videos, you may send good thoughts/vibes/prayers his way. -
Burris PEPR scope mount....Which one?
Peace replied to gregintenn's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have a quick PEPR. I've only had it at the range one time... and apparently didn't have it "figured out". ... really, how hard can it be? BUT. I have realized that when you adjust the tension knob on the right side (it pulls out and rolls past detents, then pushes back in toward the mount)... roll it back to the detent before you clamp down -- otherwise is will loosen under fire. I want to trust this mount, heck.. I didn't even get it zeroed last time... kept loosening up on me... but I hadn't noticed the play in the detents. ?? -
We live on a ... correction.. THE major drug route to the North/Northeast. That is it. 3 of our major cities sit on this drug artery... I-40. Memphis, (Jackson), Nashville, and Knoxville... all on the route... . If you are boating in.. then Chattanooga gets in on the action as well. Illicit drug organizations are smart, smartly run, and darn good at what they do. They work hard to maintain their supply chain, and their tactics result in crime-prone individuals and groups - which, in turn, produce an incredible amount of crime. So yes, we do live in a crime corridor... more so now than in the past. Separate yourself the known problem area/times and your odds of staying safe look much better.

Have the Canon D60 and love it. I do wish I had a better lense. It is all, always about the glass. Features are nice, but as far as cameras go, the quality matters in this order: 1) glass 2) sensor As far as Images go: 1) Eye and "working knowledge" of the photographer (exposure, DOF, framing) 2) glass 3) sensor I know a guy who has a D300 and does great work with it. - what a fun, fun endeavor. Good luck, and congrats to her once she gets it!!

Can someone explain why we're celebrating Nelson Mandella?
Peace replied to piper266's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
o...... k....... Our good old USA is not, has never been, and will never be perfect... the reasons for that are, well... us. humans. BUT you will find few .. narry a single joe here who will take the side that the United States "picked a fight" with Japan ... like some school kid who didn't know better.... I should leave it there,... Some fights you pick. Some fights pick you. When the latter is inevitable, making no preparations for it would be evidence of either lack of brains or lack of the will to live. We showed neither of those traits... and in our actions before WWII, we hoped to avoid as costly a war as it turned out to be. Dad gummit... . look: Mandela said what he said about the USA because: 1) he could... you can say whatever you want when your words do not command actions - and therefore have very little chance of producing consequences. 2) he didn't think one sovereign country should be able to exert military pressure/action within the border of a seperate sovereign country - technically unprovoked in order to preserve its (the invading country's) stability (seeking to enhance/maintain national security and economy). I struggle with my own thoughts about us and Iraq -- thoughts that I cannot know enough to substantiate, so I have to just let it be history... unfortunate for our brave soldiers who were lost or wounded - and their families who have lost loved ones and unfortunate for the countless thousands of innocent civilians who were maimed or killed in the middle of it. The bottom line is... I can't know for certain whether it was all necessary or not - doesn't mean I don't wish that I could know. In theory, I agree with Mandela. In practice, his line of thinking was full of utopian cow patties. I would be a complete and utter pacifist if I thought it would actually bring and sustain peace. I am of the opinion that pacifism will only bring peace in limited quantity and for a limited time. Total pacifism is essentially a surrender - a gift of power to some psychopathic person or group who will laughingly take it, smile at you, and feel big about themselves knowing that "you" are at their mercy. What they do with that power is unknown; what is known is that the pacifist will have no say in it. In South Africa - during the end of Apartheid, the amount of power Mandela wielded was inexplicably large. He was able to extend "forgiveness", and resist vengeance precisely because he wielded the power to incite massive civil unrest and anhilate the entire country. While great wisdom can come from an old warrior. We have to be full of care to evaluate their words in light of their outlook and current goals. Mandela wanted peace. Al ***** hadn't flown planes into his buildings or threatened to terrorize his citizens indefinitely. In the late afternoon of 9/11/01, I was called out of a meeting in a small town in rural South Africa. I was informed of the attack... by the time I knew - both towers were already down. There was no danger. There was no "war" declared from Al ****** to SA. That is the difference. I don't know how Iraq ranked on our threat assessment, but it aparently did, and we acted. -
Ha! getting older is something special. ^^^ Whew... that could give a whole new meaning to "I gotta go clean my gun." man.... "What do you carry?" "Awe, it's nothin'... just a crappy little revolver." :ugh:

Peace replied to piper266's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'm not for him or against him, so I have no reason to argue a point. History seems to show that he did some awful things for good reason. He then did some great things for good reason. Does that make the awful things right? Most likely not. Does that simple historical knowledge alone determine whether a man was good or evil? Certainly not. We are far removed from making such judgements - but informed enough to conjecture and try to make sense of it. I will let you know why I brought up his "leaving marxism". People who have experienced life much closer to him (than me - or as far as I know - any of us) seem to think he left it behind. One such person - who did not know Mandela, rather - devoted his professional life to studying, tracking, and "knowing" communism across the globe mentioned the exact same thing. (BTW: (According to said "guru" - only 5 communist countries left,... and the conquering "expansionism" efforts of communism are long gone... ex. Where China is moving into Africa, they are bringing Market trade... but not their culture.. and certainly not communism. Of course, this particular person did not say a word about socialism. :) ) Is all of this a sweet, cleansed remembering of Mandela? sure... still, I can find history behind the pretty news snippets, and I would be hesitant to say: "(Having not known him,) I cannot think of a good reason why he would leave Marxism behind, so he (therefore) could not have changed." He is being celebrated because he is the face/voice/personality/intellect that represents many who sacrificed to liberate an oppressed people-group. He sacrificed more than most - less then many, but he did sacrifice; he did lead, and he did liberate. (What has evolved in that environment since that time is not entirely his doing - nor is it entirely any one person's doing. Maybe it could be much better... he certainly could've led in a way which would have made it much worse.) -

To an earlier point: Mandela as a terrorist.... We know who writes the history books... and it isn't the looser. Had the British defeated us in our battle for independence, some of our founding fathers would've been hung or shot for treason... and written in the history books as the equivalent of terrorists... I'm not sure we had that word back then. :) It has been a long time since we were a colony... and most of us have never been an indigenous people-group who lived under the brutal, inhumane rule of an invading and conquering people group. It seems that Native Americans would stand a better chance (than me) of understanding the predicament that Mandela and the ANC faced in his earlier years. Nothing excuses the taking of innocent lives. Nothing. Mandela seems to have known when to leave his own past behind... and as evidenced by the attitude and (political) attendance at his funeral, he was right on. "Smart" is not always righteous, but some folks make peace with picking the most intelligent option (relative to their goal) given them at any given time. Those individuals seem to understand and practice the fact that - despite what options appear to be on the table, you cannot choose options which are not truly available to you. I have to think Mandela knew and exhibited this principle well. As to our flag, it has been custom long before Obama to fly our nation's flag at half staff in memory of foreign dignitaries (Churchill, for example). I'm not saying I agree with it, but the custom is there. Though this may be the first such dignitary which was formerly labeled a terrorist. I think our president was just glad to be able to speak to a crowd that would cheer him and let him feel like the old days of his campaign(s)... There is not too much of that around here these days. And yes, Mandela was a Marxist.... Although how much he remained one in his later years is in doubt. Again... Smartest decisions at the time. -
Keep those tools in a quality holster! ...use your legs to keep your belt-line up above the bottom of the partition. If you need to, tuck the holster around the backside of your calf where it lays over between your two legs. As far as weapon-handling in an un-controlled environment and clearing it to go to a public toilet.... (or anything else out in public)... there is a reason LEO and various agencies have clearing barrels....

Marcus Luttrell on operation "Red Wing" must watch.
Peace replied to Dustbuster's topic in General Chat
Saw some of that... Had to eventually turn it off (young kids around the house), and I was hoping to get back to it sometime. I have empathy for his own self perception. He was there. No one else was and lived through it... and he didn't have to say a word about his (self-proclaimed) failures in that firefight,... but he did , and that is uncommon. I have more feelings about it... but no words to match them. -
That was what I remembered.... though it was foggy enough that I didn't want to be the one to put out false info.

Arrow-wounded game put-down sounds like a question for the TWRA... I'm now curious to to know what they say. It would not be first on my mind in bow season.
