  1. We lived in Crieve Hall for 6 years... very near the Harding exit on 65.  We loved it!  15 minutes from the whole world (downtown, cool springs, airport (multiple routes), green hills.)  Because of that single fact, we were able to sell our house in the housing bust for asking price... quickly.
  2. Lennox Village or anywhere south of there is a long, long way to downtown/Vandy area.  It may not be as bad at 6am, but anytime you need to go home in the afternoon.... you have to get to 65 south, then get off at Old Hickory Boulevard (OHB), and then you have to get over to Nolensville Road ... with EVERYBODY else who lives out there.  This is the shortest and one of the only sane routes from Downtown into Upper Brentioch/Cane Ridge & Nolensville.  We looked in Cane Ridge... we did not buy there.   We have friends who are in Nolensville and love it.  We are partial to West Meade.  I know there are rentals on our street... not sure what they are asking.
  3.   Not dumb... but not a question either....   :tinfoil:
  4. just a hair over one acre.
  5. I care about each and every one of you.... and I still enjoy a good bucket of popcorn every now and then.       FYI: for those who think it is relevant, the creek in question is the result of a beautiful drainage basin here in West Nashville... it comes to us from a pond 1/3 up from us and runs down past us to a 10x10 double culvert and eventually to the Cumberland.  The middle of the creek is the property line for neighborhoods on both sides... it has been that way since 1960.       oh... and there will be no waivin' of the shotguns.  Waivin's fer hands and hats... the waivin' of the firearms generally violates 1 or more of the 4 laws and thus is strictly forbadeth.    :tinfoil:
  6.   She said he could go "either way"... (no not like that...).  He wasn't clean cut or well dressed, but he wasn't obviously ragged.
  7.   In TN, the water has to be navigable for the public to have right-of-use.  I would elaborate, but it is better compiled by others...   http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/Wiki/access:tn   Now, the Attorney General and I have differing opinions on the property rights of a stream/stream bed being indeterminate until a jury has ruled one way or the other.... with that said, here is the AG's take from 2011.   http://www.tn.gov/attorneygeneral/op/2011/op11-75.pdf   The afformentioned creek in this thread would not be legally or normally navigable by anything but a child's toy boat ...and then only during a flash flood.
  8.   While steel cases may not directly hurt your rifle, there is experiential evidence to suggest that in some chambers, during powder burn, the case does not expand to fill the chamber, and residue will blow back into the chamber.  Enough of this with steel ammo... then if one switches back to brass case (which does expand), and whammo... stuck case.  It's just a pain at the range, but if one ever really needed their rifle, that would be... unfortunate.
  9. Interview Response From Local Law Enforcement Administrator: "Well, we're just so grateful for this program. We could've never afforded this kind of equipment with the budget we have." (...reporter question... ) "What's that? Even though we do not currently have a use for this particular piece fo equipment, it is a vital next step for us in our operations and will certainly be an invaluable help to us in fulfilling our mission."
  10. exactly why I put signs up.
  11. Grrreat question.  We talked through that when this happened.  She is pretty good about situational awareness - which, admittedly, was down on Sunday.  She also knows that securing the kids and a safe retreat are her only duties.  She was a D1 college athlete, and if anybody ever makes contact with her, I feel sorry for them.
  12. ... Never short of strong opinions on here! A little fun never hurt.   1) I posted the property to clearly communicate my intentions as a property owner. In case the person was ignorant and of good intent, I have now communicated clearly that I do not wish him (or anyone else I don't know) on my property.   2) The camera (etc.) ideas are to assess whether this is a regular occurrence or not. This is an area of our property that is concealed from the rest. Anyone coming up that creek knows that they are sneaking through other's backyards - almost exclusively out of sight.   3). Boy howdy...I'm curious for those of you who would make light of a man for communicating clearly (for legalities) and gathering more information in order to protect his 6 year old boy and girl.... (I never made a judgement on the fellow, just said it set alarms off for me.). ... .... wonder if you have seen the news lately for Nashville or the rest of the world... and wondering if you have ever had a 6yr old girl (or boy). We are not in the 1970s anymore.
  13.   I don't think anyone thinks anyone else is any kind of hole....      OS, most of the time, I resonate pretty well with what you have to say, and really, this is no different.  I think if one were to see the creek bed itself, where it comes from and goes to... our sight-line from the house... and the non-rent-paying land-dwellers that are known to reside about 1/4-1/2 mile away in the creek basin, you may not think "getting a handle" on the situation is going hog-wild.  :)   I just prefer to not have interlopers where my kids play.  -still accepting reasonable suggestions to maintain a safe buffer for our & our neighbors' kids.
  14. Agreed about fences. We know our neighbors. This guy wasn't one of them. :). As for our pup. She is no full-on guard dog, but in this case, she doesn't have regular access to that part of our property (e-fence).
  15. FYI: Per Tennessee State Law, it is not a navigable waterway in any sense, so it is private property.   GSD?  We have a weimaraner... she is protective as heck.. when I'm not around.  When I'm around, she is more like a Golden Retriever.  :)
  16.      Earlier this afternoon, my kids (age 6) and  our neighbor's kid (5) were playing in our lower yard.  There is a creek that runs through our properties (the property line runs right through the middle of it.        As my wife was walking the creek she came upon a man coming up through our property.  Needless to say, she was shocked...  He apologized, said he didn't mean to scare her and used to live up here and walked the creek all the time.  She gave him the look of death, retreated and called the kids up toward the house with her.  When I arrived home, she described him to me and said that he exited the creek up through some neighbors' yards toward the road behind us.        I went and bought "Posted, No Tresspassing" signs and posted them at either end of the creek/property.  I also looked for said guy on the roadway.  No trace.          I know that we have had some homeless traffic on other parts of this creek bed.  I am debating purchasing a game camera to mount.  Besides that... suggestions on how to effectively stop tresspassing without escalating anything?  This has raised my hackles.  I like people - I have no need to judge or look down on anyone's personal beliefs, circumstances, season of life, creed, race, etc.  For the life of me, I cannot fathom how anyone thinks trespassing on someone's private property is ok.        I am open to all legal, generally humane suggestions.
  17. I agree there are parts of metro Nashville that are not where you want to live, but as someone who cannot stand sitting in traffic, I can say there are areas of town which offer great quality of life, reasonable price, and a commute that doesn't rob you of your sanity or... hours a week of your life. With that said, we have many friends who commute in and say they seem to love it. You might also consider the hours in which the Mrs. will be making that commute.
  18. Congrats!  PM inbound.   Let us know how we can help.
  19. I had one for a little while.  I treated mowing as aerobic exercise, and I loved finishing the yard and not smelling like fuel/exhaust.   (for the record, I still  daydream about the Exmark I used to use long ago - it happens almost every time I mow.. .and think of how long ago I could've been finished   :pleased: ).   As much as I liked the reel mower, it would NOT cut weeds consistently.  So, if you have one type of grass blade in the area you are mowing - go for it.  If you have any weeds that have a tough stem, I would think about a remedy for that.   I now use a Ferris WB.  -though I still like the idea of a man-powered reel mower!   Good luck!
  20. So Hornady suspended a lot of ammo production back in July.  Part of that was the .223 75gr TAP ammunition.   so far... no changes.   I also noticed that the SSA product line in .223/5.56 has all but disappeared.  They show that they are manufacturing only a 77gr OTM.   I have no need for complex (and far-fetched) conspiracy theories.  I am baffled by this.  Nosler bought SSA back in the summer, so maybe these they have a strategy for the company that involves reducing .223/5.56 production (?)...  Hornady though - Hornady laying down on the job has a stench to it.  (critical duty handgun ammo has been popping up everywhere... profit margin better in handgun ammo?)

    Remington R-51

Well,  who would've thought at the beginning of this thread that we would end up here.   I guess, as I read back over my words... the "under $400" coupled with the lofty ideals in the description was evidence enough.   Grown men, lured into a virtual windowless van with "RMGTN" on the plates.  "Hey little fire-arm appreciator,.... would you like a lollypop?"   If it sounds to good to be true......     with that said - here's to good faith and Remington stepping up and making whatever this is "right" for all of the new owners out there.
  22. Good news!  -hope recovery is just as successful.
  23. Annual pass goes to Charlie's son.   Is he Charlie too?  I believe shooting for the day is available for guests of someone who is a member.   Members, is that correct?
  24. Missing airliner = Russian distraction?
