  1. oh,.... the old man earned his keep working at area 51 before he got into warbird restoration!
  2. FYI: It is a full scale authentic P-51. - though it has the cleanest sheet metal I've ever seen on a P-51. Original owner collected parts for years - fab'd all parts he thought needed improvement and was a master sheet-metal craftsman. He passed away last year. His son flies the plane (he earned his P-51 type rating at 20yrs old! Apparently, no original P-51 made during wartime has the tight tolerances, fit and finish of this plane.
  3.   stuff happens fast - or so I've heard.   ... if "the first shot didn't work", you might be prone for a very, very long time.
  4. OP: I want to take a minute to congratulate you for accepting the responsibility and taking the initiative to prepare yourself to protect you and your loved ones. For the moment, let's say that by "AR" we are talking 5.56 or .223 caliber. 5.56 or shotgun slug or 00 buck.... and penetration. Penetration will differ for the many variations of rounds available for both - the construction of your "building" and your chosen lines of fire will all affect penetration. in 5.56. hornady TAP 75gr has proven very effective at stopping BGs. black Hills loaded w Barnes 55grTSX are also highly effective rounds. might I suggest: Learn the 4 laws of firearm safety cold. obey them always. 1). You are doing a good thing in thinking this through. keep asking questions and reading. grrreat info & folks on TGO. 2) get some training by a reputable defensive tactics/firearms instructor (inferring from your posts that you are relatively new to the aforementioned firearms). 3) Plan your home defense, where to entrench, when to engage (the line in the sand), where you might retreat if that becomes a necessity (fire, overwhelming numbers, etc.). Don't just have a weapon (tool); have a plan (and the learned ability) to effectively utilize that tool in your defense. 4). Intentionally choose lines of fire. know what is beyond your target along your lines of fire (adjust line of fire if necessary/possible). - making sure you cannot be "scared into" shooting toward a portion of the building which is occupied by loved ones. if you can incorporate natural backstops like brick or stone fireplaces, library shelves full of books, etc., then do so. 5). practice at your chosen distance like your life depends on it. practice makes permanent, so slow and correct is better than fast and sloppy. over-penetration is less of a concern if you can reliably (read every trigger press) put rounds on target at chosen distances under stress. later, if you can do so safely, introduce stress into your training. good luck! also, if you have kids, find a way to secure your HD weapons so that kids cannot access them.
  5. Skip Stewart out of Memphis! - this photo belies the fact that he stuck amazing maneuvers absolutely at ground level. My mouth was hanging open too far for me to effectively wield a camera.
  6. still in the parking lot... worth it! pics to come later...
  7. sorry for your loss and for his family's loss.
  8. -taking my 6yr old son on Sunday.  I can't tell you how excited I am for him to see it all.         **alingo2001 - I'll be thinking about you in the shade!   B)
  9. Alleged criminal may or may not have been an active threat when shot in the back...  It certainly makes the investigation rise to the top.  I hate it when folks forsake all value of human life and force others into an appropriate set of responses that will (most likely) change their lives forever.   if society degrades and degrades for long enough, the criminal element will change tactics.  I would speculate, but there's no need in spreading an effective tactic to bad folks via the inter-webs.
  10. Ignorant Media Machine... They give instant infamy and in the way they treat the image of the criminals, they create a twisted "comradery" between the ones past, the ones present, and the ones future -- the lonely, isolated, disturbed find someone to whom they can relate... and emulate, and compete against.   Until National media start voluntarily burying the identities of these ill/crazy/demented humans, then it will continue just like this... maybe even more.   There is some hope: http://www.pri.org/stories/2014-06-10/canadian-news-network-refuses-broadcast-mass-shooters-name
  11. TrickyNickey,... I liked your post because it was funny.  ... and when I sat back and looked at me liking that post,.. it felt a little wrong.  - still funny.
  12. I don't think you'd need a couple million unless you want the whole lot.  The Sherman should run around $300k.  Less if the restoration is not 100% - more if it is.
  13. Intelligence is important. Determination and perseverance to apply that intelligence to the purpose of bettering one's self and one's community is just as important. Rank that and we'll talk. I take no offense to an honest assessment, but if we care, we ought to be doing our own assessment.
  14. Thinking of you all in this time.  How wonderful is the love that makes "letting go" so hard.
  15. congrats on getting back on the road!  My body hates distance running, but I do ride bikes with a buddy, and every time we whiz by somebody running, my buddy always points out how miserable they look!  I have a long association history with runners and have always admired distance athletes, so I dismissed him at first,... then after a few rides with him, I was in stitches at the consistency with which most runners look like the universe is coming to an end.  "Why would they do that to themselves?"... I can hear him now, and it makes me chuckle.     If the emergency is 200m or closer, I'll usually be the first one there.    ... anything farther, and we best be pushing the ePIRB.   :pleased:   - that's why you'll find me on the bike.   Keep it up!
  16. I grew up in West TN and was raised on West TN BBQ.  Wherever you buy it, if you are eating smoked, hand-pulled pork (and not sauced-to-death or chopped to pieces), then you are eating West TN BBQ.  (same goes for Texas-style)   The best BBQ I've had has always come from rural smokers who run little pickup spots or small dine-in places.  Surely there are some of those around and outside of Nashville.  I remember the little shop across from the fire station in Franklin being pretty good - but that's been over 6 years ago.   Heck, even Whitt's BBQ is easy going down,... but that's because it is boiled in salt brine.
  17. so... they are nut jobs.  which side of the issue they are truly on is debatable.    ... but, there is no, none, not one acceptable reason to take a low-ready firing grip on a rifle in a public place of eating.... unless your life is threatened.  It's tough to asses, approach, and quickly remove to rifle-toating "unknowns" from a premises, but that is exactly what needed to be done.  ...  Then there mama's need to spank there rears for being rude at the "dinner table".  dad gum!    I would ban those two for life. ... open carrying a rifle for selfish gratification is annoying.  Taking a low-ready firing grip beside the dinner table in public - for no good reason.  "No Soup (burrito) for YOU!"   ...
  18. Weim - 11.5 yrs young.
  19.   :pleased:  aw shucks.  I can't make anyone "get it".    As an idea, moving the merchandise is witty and funny.  In practice, it is petty and childish and portrays "us" in that light to WM employees and managers who are, in practice, neither for nor against "us"... not all of them are so attached to the cause. - not to mention any news media that ever get wind of this - should the practice "expand" (remember, proof that it was intentional and planned... and laughed about is all over a public forum).    The reality is that it won't win any friends for the freedoms of our kids.       Totally outside of that realm: As far as "How would someone track me down".  -not that hard when you post in a public forum...  what you scrolled over, clicked, when you clicked it, where you were when you clicked it, how long you looked at it before you clicked it, ... and darn near what you were wearing (or not) when you clicked it is all tracked, known, logged, and is easily searched forever.  Many on this forum know much better than I.     look -not trying to poop in the Kracker Jacks; it just seems like we can be so serious about this "fight" for our freedoms, and then find the need to belittle anyone who calls us out when we do things that don't help.  So, no not seriously,.... I am just offering some perspective - take it or leave it... or even make fun of it, most likely we'll all be alright at the end of the day.
  20. Dissent echoed.  It is good fun if it does not interfere with someone else's property and business.  If it were my business, and I caught wind of you all doing that, I would post cameras and annoy you right back with prosecution with whatever law I could use... even if it didn't stick, your attorney fees would most likely keep you from doing it agtain.... and by the way, this thread would be evidence that I would find.     Not everyone will follow the Golden Rule, but basic political wisdom says that - when in a "public battle", you sure as heck keep your image spotless "out in the open".  That's how the dirty players on the other side of the ball do it.  Are they just smarter than us?.... or are they just more comitted to winning?   #friendlyfire
  21. TrickyNicky StewMac!!!!!   ... now that is a convergence of universes!    At first, it just felt like I was reading "Brownells".... then it hit me.  It's the other "I want one of almost every tool they carry" place.   too funny.
  22. So sorry for your loss and your son's loss.  All of our thoughts are with you all tonight.
