^^ and down wind. With that said,... for deer, any certain variation of camo is mostly for us - especially in gun season when we wear blaze orange. We have a lot of browns in West TN during deer (gun) season, and I wear RealTree AP. -- just couldn't see the benefit of paying more or shopping longer. Cabelas has "Zonz" with a mix of in focus and out of focus elements. ... interesting idea. Enough money and "research" has gone into the major brands that any of them which closely match the colors in your woods will work fine. Choose one and learn how to move without moving. I went temporarily nuts a few years ago and purchased Desert and original MARPAT jacket and BDUs. They would work fine for turkey or deer,... but are incredibly dorky around the other humans.

Alright, I'll kick us off. When I was a teenager, we used to rabbit hunt with a dog breeder and a whole cadre of his friends and family. At one point, the dogs were running the rabbits away from my brother and I, so we just started walking down the edge of a field right off the ditch line - knowing the rabbits would eventually turn back towards us. A few minutes later, they turned (but we didn't know it) - far, far ahead of the dogs, a rabbit busted out of the ditch line and bolted right in front of us about 10-15 feet away. It was close enough that there would've been nothing left had we fired. We were just letting him run. All of the sudden we hear "Boom, boom, boom"... and the Rabbit tumbles to a stop right in front of us. Stunned we look back behind us - up the hill. Dr. "x", our neighbor chuckled and shouted at us, "Don't worry boys, if I shoot you, I'll sew you up! Pick that up for me, will you?" I think I shook the rest of the day. He was obviously joking,... but he also meant it.

Where? What? ie. What location (scrub, meadows, hills, valleys, west, east, pine forrest, ... etc. ... and what are you hunting/hiding from?) Give us that, and I bet you will get some great ideas thrown your way.

I like Lowe's, in theory (I certainly like the folks that work there). As a contractor, we try to use them as much as possible and have a very good relationship with them. However, only a true lumberyard will have quality lumber... and for some reason Lowe's is ALWAYS out of stock of whatever I go to get. I don't have any words for California. ... ... It makes me sad when folks "in power" seemingly try to reduce the human capacity for deduction and critical thinking. - ever see the movie "Idiocracy"? -Peace

^^ Agreed about the Sapphire screens and/or warranted water-proof, etc. That would bring value to the product. A friend texted me today and asked if I was watching (because he knows I used to...) I told him that I miss the Apple that no one (other than creative types) knew about or cared about. They did very few things very well. They still have a simple mission statement. They still essentially do only one thing very well. ... generate revenue (by continuing to produce data harvesting devices - for which the public pays for the privilage of having their lives mined and molded for the marketplace). I type this from my MacBook Pro with an iPhone not 3 feet from me. If it proves to be useful, I may purchase it. If/when Apple comes up with something that makes life or work better, I would love to know about it, but I have long grown tired of Apple's Tonic-Salesman/MagicMan, over-hyping presentations.

It's the best things of life that stick so hard they hurt. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Maybe it varies. ?? The other day, he didn't think my milkshake turned out right so he brought it to me with a $5 bill. I don't think it cost $5. Between that kind of attitude, the fact that they do Gluten Free really well (my wife doesn't get sick), and the awesome sweet potato fries.... sometimes I completely forget whether or not the burger is up to snuff. It's always good!

Welcome to TGO and thanks for what you do!
Anything we could do for you?
Agreed. What area is home for you, and how can we help? Edit: just read that you are in Raleigh. Is that still correct? Anyone know anyone?

Searching employees in retail is absolutely normal and understandable. I agree with Lumber-Jack on the vehicle search. - though it would depend on the LEO attitude in the city/county. If they are known to be 2A friendly, no big deal. If they are known to be against 2A... might be better to just say no and consent to leaving the property with termination. If loosing the job isn't concern, in this economy, loosing the reference of a previous employer should be.

HCP/CCW - What are you preparing for?
Peace replied to D3vo's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I prepare and maintain preparedness in order to protect the prescious lives of my loved ones. Protecting my own life (being able to partner/provide as a husband and instruct/love as a parent) is a part of that. I don't want to be in a situation to have to employ deadly force; I would much rather Avoid, Evade, or Escape. "Engage" remains the last option on that short, comprehensive list. Gunfights are a nasty business, and there is nothing in me that needs to prove anything to anyone by choosing "Engage" when one of my other three options remain. That's why Situational Awareness is my first defense employed... always. -

About "remembering being mis-treated" (way to calm things down) I remember dropping my car off at a tire store late one night because I had hit something in the road - tire was wooshing air out, and I didn't want to drive home only to have to put the spare on the next morning to get it to a tire store. Needless to say, as I was looking for a key drop - and getting my stuff out of my car, I was visited by 5-8 of Nashville's finest - including cujo. cuffed, searched, talked to like I was a class A lowlife felon. I was treated like a criminal. It was humiliating, demeaning, etc. ... I'm pretty confident it had nothing to do with the color of my skin, and I also do not think that anyone of any color could've been treated much more roughly while being so ridiculously innocent and pure in their actions. I got over it,... and I still laugh about my buddy picking my up... after me being cuffed, hands jacked up behind my back and pushed forward until I was perpetually about to fall over onto cujo... - held like this for a long time... after all of this, my buddy swings in to the parking lot, hops out of the car and loudly asks (with all of the officers right there), "Man, ... what did you do this time?" ..."shut up and get back in the car."

On or Off book; does it matter?
Peace replied to Steelharp's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I would like it not to matter. ... bottom line. Be a good person, do good things. Volunteer and help out kids, elderly,... and generally those that can't help themselves. If you become well known for the good that you do, it will be harder for ignorance to hurt you should you ever have to defend yourself against threat of death or serious bodily harm. Carry what you legally and rightfully own according to the applicable laws. ... If you ever do have to use it, you will find yourself downwind looking right at a big, brown fan - no matter how you slice it.... but hey, you're still alive to see that brown fan and smell the "roses". -Peace -
Since finding any load in a barnes 70gr TSX is difficult, I thought I would give these rounds a try... even though I can't stomach buying anything with someone's face plastered across the front. I was short on time today and fired (1) five round group at 100yds. It was about 3.5MOA. rats. - could've been me, but I am not optimistic about this ammo's accuracy. -- it would leave my point blank range for deer hunting right at 100yds. I was hoping to be good to 150 or so. Possible factors: 1) I was short on time (I was careful with my breath, relaxation, and surprise trigger break) 2) I was shooting slightly "up hill" from prone. 3) I was sweating buckets. still... I was incredibly (sadly) surprised as each round hit... it seemed like they were all over the place. Anyone else shooting these? - getting different results or the same? I may move on to remington or Black Hills' 62gr TSX. ... or I may just hunt with Hornady's 75gr BTHP.

16" barrel - not pinned. I have tried with the upper in a block, made a block for the barrel... heated the muzzle with a heat gun, soaked the muzzle in Hoppes #9... etc. The flash hider won't budge - even with all of my weight on it and the barrel in a vise... the barrel just turns. The muzzle is now soaking over night in water. Any help, thoughts, hints, or tips? Anyone in Nashville with a legit barrel vise that I could borrow this weekend or come use for a minute? sheesh.

Murder or Accident? At this point, not a single one of us has any idea, but it sure is sad.

If you can feel the rifle, and marksmanship is important for you, Geissele triggers are a wonderful mod. worth it? depends. I will also add that the trigger is more than just how it feels on take-up, break, and reset. The trigger is the juice/mojo behind your firing pin, so even though it is not rocket science, every part matters, and I like my triggers to be designed (and manufactured) by someone who cares. The trigger group is also what stands between every rifle holder and a malfunction ND.

I really am looking for a project rifle that will eventually be capable of hitting a 12" gong at 1,200yds.... but is not so heavy that I don't want to carry it on the occasional out west hunting trip. I would re-stock the Tikka. I am getting the hint that I may be too optimistic.

Some folks say dumping those (refined) hydrocarbons in your soil is a really bad idea.... ...if you ever want your soil to work for you again.
