Gallatin Gun IDPA match & Rifle side match
rstandley replied to rstandley's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
On the rifle stages, Rifle and one 30 rounder will get you through each stage. I plan on having one steel reactive target on each stage needing 2 shots. The steel will be within 40 yards, one of the MGM rifle mini-poppers. We will reset stages one and four for the rifle match. If I get a big group, I can add another one, so bring some extra ammo. Pistol stage 2 is your typical card game gone wrong, I wonder how it would be with rifle? :panic: Daniel will have to use gangster compliant magazines. -
Saturday July 11th is our regular monthly IDPA match plus a 2 stage rifle side match. IDPA match is 4 stages requiring 80 rounds to complete. The rifle side match is 2 stages requiring 52 rounds to complete. Range fees for this match are $10 for Gallatin members, $15 for non-members. Side match is $5. Rifles for side match may be AR-15, M1 carbs. or AK variants, Rifle or pistol calibers. Set up is at 7:00, Shooters meeting at 9:00.

The only scoring will be on stage 5 for anybody needing a classifier. Feel free to score yourself and keep the score sheets. This allows folks to shoot only the stages they want or a single stage more than once. This month only. -

Thanks John. I am getting a huge response on this. I may have more folks that the big match last year. If any of you have training (blue) guns, bring them. If the bays get crowed, I would like to get folks off to the side and do more instruction. Soooo all you range officers come out. I will have a separate sign in sheet for you. :woohoo: -

For the IDPA class, A strong side holster held in place with a good belt, 3 magazines, two magazine holders. Revolver shooters can have 4 speed loaders. Stock pistols or pistols with very limited mods. 9mm,.40s&w, .45ACP, .38 special or .380 if shooting a back up gun. bring at least 100 rounds. 200 if you want to practice more. If you have no holsters, we can start you from a gun bag at low ready. If you feel uneasy drawing from your holster, we can start you from low ready. This day is all about learning about the shooting sports out here. Testing the water so to speak. Glocks and Smith & Wesson M&P lines are popular in stock class. Colt 1911's and clones from Kimber and STI are seen in CDP class. I can class most any gun out their that is suitable for conceal carry. A 8" .44 mag or .50 ACP is not a gun most would carry, However if you want to fire a few rounds off from one, bring enough ammo for me too. -

You can get as much or as little coaching as needed. The start time is 9:00 usually, however for this match, come and go as needed. I can take new shooters until around 1:00. I will hold a mass safety meeting around 8:30 - 9:00AM. If you arrive late, you will get the one on one. Remember safety is first, no show and tell at bays. Their will be tables set up next to the woods for that. Each bay will be stand alone, run by the range officers in that bay. You will be able to move about. The classifier will be set in bay five if anybody needs it for score or practice. Also no memberships are required for this match, open to all safe shooters. Unsafe shooters will be ask to leave and I will keep your range fee. What is safe you ask? All guns in a holster or bag when not shooting on the line under the direction of a range officer. No gun handling outside the bays. Safe areas will be set up to check your firearm if needed. No ammo in the safe area. No show and tell in the open areas around the bays. First infraction you will be coached on protocol, second you may be ask to leave. Long guns carried muzzle up or down. Cased is better or on a range cart. -

Gallatin Gun Club will host an induction to IDPA shooting on Saturday June 13th, 9:00AM - 4:00PM. 5 stages will be set up to cover most aspects of IDPA shooting. No formal match will be held and no scoring. This is a day of instruction and practice. Score sheets will be on hand if you feel the need. Each bay will have qualified instructors and range officers to guide and help you. The number of folks waiting will determine how much you can shoot ( no bay hogging). Targets and stands are provided in range fees. I will be in bay one and will have set ups for USPSA and 3-gun. Their will be a limited number of loaner guns on hand. This is a great chance for new and young shooters. All IDPA safety rules will be enforced. The range will be cold except on the firing line under range officer control. This will be a bargain at $15 per person for all day. Families can get the rest of the clan in at $10 per head. I will have instructors in shotgun and rifle on hand after noon. So bring what you have. Robert Standley, NRA Pistol Instructor, IDPA Safety Officer Instructor and CRO, USPSA Chief Range Officer. robert.standley08@comcast.net For more information Range is on TVA property at 1499 Steam Plant Rd.
