  1. Bummer. He was a fantastic musician. I still don't know how a guy with hands that big played that fast.
  2. If the guy was dangerous enough to confiscate his guns, he was dangerous enough to warrant more than 2 cops at the door. They shouldn't have let it get to the point of physical struggle. Nothing good comes from a wrestling match. Again, back off, de-escalate, give it time for cooler heads to prevail.... especially since the house is already surrounded (hence more than 2 cops). There has to be more steps between zero and gun fight. If the guy comes out shooting, fine. If the guy just says no, show him a little respect, act like an adult, and talk it out. If that doesn't work, gas the house and maybe that will help him decide. As you say, it's all armchair quarterbacking. Stuff like this is maddening.
  3. I'd consider it the difference between forcible confiscation and willingly surrendered. If you're willing to give them up and deal with the courts and aggravation of reclaiming your property because of an inadmissible and undefendable hearsay claim, fine. Should they be forcibly taken? No. If the guy got belligerent, which he did, the cops should have de-escalated. Back off. Watch him. Let it cool off. Going from zero to gunfire over hearsay is absurd. What would they have done if he wasn't home? B&E to confiscate (steal) his property? As Greg says, that's armed robbery in my book. Does the warrant to confiscate his property include a summons to a court date?
  4. Gotta be a Bond movie.
  5. So a judge is signing an order based purely on heresay? And this process is somewhat routine for other issues? Further confirmation that we have a legal system and not a justice system. And for the record, I agree with Garufa's comments. But this is America and we are assured certain inalienable rights.
  6. Mine looks similar, though they're on the side instead of the front.
  7. I'd say there's no chance this law passes any semblance of a "due process" examination, and it's clearly a 4th Amendment violation. But these days, you never know.
  8. Processors bang through it as fast as they can. Watch a few videos and see how careful and thorough they are. Given what I've heard from hunters I work with, I also wouldn't have great confidence that I'd get my deer back.
  9. Yep, I would guess an original sniper with documented history.
  10. You can also get wire brushes, scotch-brite balls, and flap wheels that will fit a drill or die grinder.
  11. Proof that while the left is very loud and would like you to think they run the show, there's not enough of them to tip the scale. Yet.
  12. I'd also recommend you remove any bulk ammo and store it somewhere else. I use the silicone gun socks for long guns and cheap pocket holsters for the handguns. My cabinet is at about double it's rated capacity.
  13. It looks pretty rough for sure. Good luck, I'm curious to see what can be done with it.
  14. The notion is that since the .380 is as powerful and accurate as shooting spitballs into the wind that you have to be close enough to smell the BG's breath before it's worth using. And then you're better off just asking them nicely to stop, because the bullets might just bounce off and that'll make the BG even more angry. As opposed to a .45, in which case the BG spontaneously vaporizes before you clear the holster.
  15. Keep trying the PB Blaster. Put a torch to the receiver adjacent to the screw, not the screw itself. Heat until the oil starts to smoke. Try a manual impact driver. Repeat the oil/heat/impact cycle several times. It'll come out. And don't burn the house down.
  16. I can see the Craigslist ad... bank robber? We have just what you need....
  17. If you like them and shoot them well, keep them. I have an LCP and i like it. The convienence of a pocket pistol is hard to beat. I also have a Shield and it's significantly bigger. Some can pocket carry them, but us normal sized people can't pull that off. Or more accurately, can't pull it out. The Shield will fit in my pocket, but it's really hard to get back out. I belt carry it.
  18. That's likely to do more harm than good. If not carefully done, it's easily possible to blow away parts of the action entirely. There's not much left in some places. Glass beads would work better to remove the corrosion than sand (AlOx) with less metal loss. That said, I'd probably do it by hand. You'll have more in the blast work than you paid for the rifle.
  19. Wow. It would seem my mosin is providing a much greater ROI than my house. Go figure.
  20. What several have said.... Give him a custom gift certificate and have a range date at a place with lots of rental guns available. Try everything, even guns you don't think you'll like, you might be surprised. It may likely take more than one trip to decide what you like, and that's fine. Range fees are cheap compared to trading guns 4 times until you're happy.
  21. I used a variety of rounds, mostly its what was available and worked when I was "qualifying" that particular pistol. I've got Gold Dots in one, Federal somethingorother in another, and a coupe versions of Hornady in others. I'm less concerned with bullet terminal performance than I am with reliable function and accuracy (which is me, not the gun).
  22. Don't go to the parts house, their sole job is to sell you stuff. Get a bearing catalog. Virtually all bearings are stock sizes. There's typically standard numbers on the inner or outer race that you can look up, or just measure the ID, OD, and thickness and find what you need.
  23. Replace them with sealed bearings...
  24. There are plenty of instances of cruise ships running out of supplies and buying everything they can get in a particular port, leaving the locals with nothing.
