  1. Sparta and Spencer are nice places, but they're both a good ways off the beaten path so you get all the good and bad that come with that. The housing market is so busy right now that I'm not surprised you can't find a builder that's interested in working an hour from anywhere.
  2. Win some, lose some. Gambling can be expensive.
  3. Look into a rain barrel. The standard blue or black barrels work fine, or you can get something prettier. I don't recommend the white barrels due to algae growth. We have one 50 gallon barrel and a 5 minute downpour will fill it up.
  4. I didn't think about it at the time, but similar stuff happened when they built Hamilton Place mall in Chattanooga, which was built on a subdivison. I recall there being a few hold outs but I don't remember if they finally caved and sold or were forced out.
  5. Doesn't seem like this is an eminent domain issue. The .gov wasn't taking his property for a .gov project. He got screwed by the local zoning commission because they wanted more tax revenue from a large private business. I'm sure the proper course of action would have been to spend truck loads of money suing the municipality, because that's the only way to accomplish anything in modern America. This guy chose civil disobedience instead. If you're gonna do that, do it with style. He did.
  6. Can't say I ever heard the story behind that before. Interesting for sure.
  7. 6 cherry tomato plants? I like them too, but that's gonna be a LOT of maters. They freeze pretty well and make good sauces. We didn't plant a cherry tomato last year, but the birds planted one for us in the flower bed. We've got one plant this year. Speaking of volunteers... we've got a couple tomatoes and a vine that's either a watermelon or cantaloupe. I thought it was a zucchini so I let it grow, but now it's got 6ft runners so we'll see what it produces. And yes, you've still got plenty of time to plant most any typical summer crop and get a good yeild.
  8. Our garden is doing pretty well except for the okra, which I assume the rabbits are eating. We've had at least 2 clutches of rabbits in the yard. Heres the first harvest, taken just a Little's while ago....
  9. What do you want to paint? Highlight the lettering, or add a design of some sort?
  10. Never thought of nests. They're tiny and usually high up in a tree. Probably best to let them build their own.
  11. Must be one of their two summer Wednesdays. Otherwise there would be snow on the ground.
  12. Yep, one of the fun parts of life in the hills. Ducks, chickens, guineas, turkeys, possums, and frogs all eat ticks. Keeping the grass cut to less than ankle height helps a lot too.
  13. They live in the city but its 12 acres of woods, and the local cops knew they had a permit so it wasn't a problem. Also had to contact TWRA every time they got one.
  14. Walmart usually has that spray as well. And yes, checking yourself and/or your kids daily minimizes risk. We've got a scout camping trip coming up. This is a good reminder to treat shoes and such again.
  15. Christiana Campbells and Kings Arms taverns in the historical area. Not cheap, but worth it. We love Williamsburg... it's American history nirvana. Jamestown, Yorktown, ... all those places are great. The naval stuff at Norfolk is awesome, but the traffic can be unbelievable. The bridge/tunnel across the bay is pretty cool, if you're nerdy like that. Buckroe Beach was a nice little public beach that's right on the bay. The steady stream of container ships passing by keeps the surf up.
  16. My parents had a nuisance permit (deer) for several years. Dads go-to method was a patio chair in the driveway with a cup of coffee and his Winchester 94 in his lap.
  17. That's awesome!
  18. Sorry for you loss. May God's grace hold you up during this difficult time.
  19. See if Stoeger offers a replacement stock for that youth model and if it will fit your gun. I'm assuming there's a penalty for using a 20ga instead of 12 in competition. Cutting down the stock and fitting a recoil pad isn't hard to do.
  20. Look for a youth stock. For reasons only they understand, shotguns tend to have a longer length of pull than a typical rifle. Adding a recoil pad makes them ridiculously long for us normal sized people.
  21. Looks pretty interesting.

Get her a good gun belt. The best holster in the world will be crap with a flimsy belt.
