  1. That's sounds like a great yield to me. I froze 3 more gallon bags of tomatoes tonite, which makes about 7 total. Not bad, but not great. I'd wanted to can some but they're not coming in fast enough.
  2. Is that a just a test bed, or did they intend to actually use it?
  3. ORSA is the most common choice. Windrock is another outdoor range. Point Blank is an indoor range.
  4. I'd choose getting whacked in the hip over the spine 10 times out of 10.
  5. I carried small of back right up until I slipped on some ice and landed on the gun. Owwie. That was a long time ago and i still get a twinge in my back just thinking about it.
  6. I'd think the generic double stack sleeve would fit reasonably.... but the Hogue grips have some texture as well. I have one on my Shield and it'll rub a spot on my side when I wear it all day. Ive considered undershirts, but I'm not sure how I'd manage the heat. I sweat enough as it is. Another option is to move the gun a little further around (I normally carry at about 3:00) so the butt is off my side a bit more. It a compromise between comfort and concealment.
  7. The fundamental issue to me is defining how accurate is accurate enough at the given distance. Is hitting a paper plate good enough, or is a 3x5 card more appropriate, or are we trying to put multiple bullets in the same hole? For me, "combat accuracy" with a pistol is somewhere in the paper plate to 3x5 card range. That being the standard, point shooting with some awareness of the front sight is much faster while accurate enough. I have to use the sights to achieve acceptable accuracy around 15 yds. Point shooting with acceptable accuracy at 50 yds is darn impressive.
  8. Yep. Winchester M12?
  9. Bored machinists... now I understand. Certainly not.
  10. I agree that it's probably a dog. Look for scat. Coyote scat typically has fur, bones, and berries in it. Coyotes tend to poop in the middle of trails so its usually not hard to find. You know what dog scat looks like.
  11. I was just thinking from a ballistic perspective... velocity and energy is very similar to .50 BMG. They need to add a muzzle brake or make it a bench rest rifle. Else it's just a "hold my beer and watch this" toy.
  12. So they went to a lot of trouble to reinvent a .50 BMG?
  13. Welcome!
  14. I agree except that I'd say red dots are catching and will surpass lasers before long. I've tried laser and found it very distracting. It's supposed to permit more target focus but I found myself so focused on the dot wobbling around that I wasn't paying attention to anything else. Point shooting also works best for me in self defense type shooting. I'm faster while staying accurate enough at short ranges. The transition for me is about 15 yds.
  15. I've seen the chickamauga one, it's something for sure. This one in Tellico is very good as well. https://www.tellico-plains.com/charles-hall-museum.html
  16. Speaking of vintage guns... if you're near Atlanta, stop in the Marietta History Museum. They have an interesting gun collection, and a bunch of other neat stuff. http://www.mariettahistory.org/
  17. Spread the word with neighboring churches. I suspect they'd appreciate a heads up.
  18. We watched the "lost footage" specials on TV last night, really interesting stuff. We don't have enough tolerance for risk to do stuff like that anymore.
  19. And what a glorious noise....
  20. Cool toys. Like the fab work. Wish I was good at that.
  21. If he's been kicked out by his parents, I would presume he and the local police are already fairly well acquainted. Depending on his disposition, actively engaging the police could do more immediate harm than good, but I do think it's a good idea to get his name, a photo, and have a conversation with the PD.
  22. Word of mouth will be your best method. Get your work out there, car guys like to talk.
  23. Find and put him in touch with resources that can get him the help he needs. Without being there and interacting with the guy, I can't say if he's just a hoodlum trying to prey on the church or he's truly seeking help. And I agree that those most likely to interface with him directly absolutely need to be "in the know".
  24. Sounds really nice. Noise will be your biggest issue.
  25. 6 gallons of corn in a jar. Yep, I'd say that'll do.
