  1. Yes, really. We've got 2 kids in elementary school. I spent the first 6 months of both their lives running on less than 3 consecutive hours of sleep, and I forgot all kinds of stuff (shoes, keys, meals, stuff I was supposed to do at work...) but I never forgot that I had a kid. As a parent, there is never a day when you're not on duty. The responsibilties change over the years, but it's a lifetime commitment. If a "check the back seat" alarm saves 1 life, it's absolutely worth it. But the fact that they exist at all is a sad commentary on where society has gone.
  2. Leaving your headlights on is more obvious than your kids in the back seat? That's incomprehensible. Having kids should fundamentally change how a person thinks and acts. People need to put down the damn phone, quit being so self absorbed and accept the idea that their needs are no longer the most important thing.
  3. A photo of the car, the tank, or the guy driving the tank?
  4. Our dog got skunked a couple times over the years. This stuff worked better than anything else, though it bleached her fur somewhat. We had a brown dog instead of a black one for a while after. @Erik88 I'd definitely work on that fence first. You can get live animal traps lots of places. A pellet rifle or a big trash can full of water might be alternatives. Skunks are generally pretty docile. If you don't have a dog going bonkers or run around like a looney, they're usually not bad to deal with. My parents have had them get in their garage and they basically just gently shooed them out with no issue. Wait until the middle of the day to approach a trap, skunks are largely nocturnal so thats the middle of the night to them.
  5. So you're saying these carry insurance policies provide cash up front? I presume you'd have to pay it back if you lose?
  6. The Clinton's didn't put that line item in the contract since Trump didn't pursue the server thing.
  7. So these carry insurance policies front all that money with no questions asked? How is that process different from filing a claim against an umbrella policy?
  8. I had a friend get charged with DUI while sleeping it off in the back seat of his car one rainy night. Judge dropped the charges after pleading his case at his hearing. Also was in a car being driven home by a sober person and we all got threatened with DUI and PD. The officer hassled us for quite a while since the car belonged to one of the drunks in the back seat. I still don't understand what difference that makes. Maybe he was just bored. Both of those were learning experiences. I learned it's better to stay where you are and keep drinking than it is to try and do something responsible when it's time to go home.
  9. You're thinking hedgehog.
  10. Then don't push it that hard....
  11. A high powered air rifle can help with ordinances against discharge of a firearm. I'd expect it would be plenty powerful at fairly close distances.
  12. Why does he want them gone? Skunks eat lots of other less desireable critters. A skunk's only natural predator is the Great Horned Owl.
  13. I believe the distinction is shooting pests vs hunting a game animal. Armadillos aren't game animals so there is no hunting season for them. You're allowed to trap or otherwise eliminate non game animals causing damage to your property.... similar to wild hogs I'd presume. Just call your local TWRA office and ask.
  14. Does the gun not function?

  16. Sounds like most any southern small town. It is a bit hotter because it's in the valley. The ridges on both sides are fairly tall, so they do a reasonable job of deflecting big storms. But... it'll be ugly should a big one come straight up the valley. The area is also popular with the hang gliding crowd.
  17. Pretty valley, my wife's family has a huge farm a few miles out of town. Small town, not much there. Crossville or Chattanooga are close enough.
  18. You've done everything I'd suggest. Can't hurt to just walk around the area. Other than that, you just have to wait. Dogs get hungry and come back eventually. This is one of my coworkers. https://www.wvlt.tv/content/news/Community-comes-together-to-find-lost-dog-504754701.html
  19. Early Century rifles had several well documented issues. Most of those were corrected over time, so I think current rifles are ok. Zastava makes good ones. I think PSA rifles are pretty good too. You can also buy a parts kit and build it yourself, though some special tools are needed.
  20. Right, they have to prove you obtained it illegally. Innocent until proven guilty, at least for now. If you're found to be in possession of a stolen gun with no other circumstances and you voluntarily surrender it, nothing else is likely to happen. Several years ago a friend was considering trading a gun he'd bought from an individual years before at a shop. They ran the serial number and it came up stolen. A LEO arrived, asked him a few questions, took the gun, thanked him for cooperating, and left. He never heard anything else.
  21. Waterbeds and aquariums aren't comparable. Waterbeds may weigh 3x as much but they cover 10x the area. A 7x5 bed that weighs 1500 lbs is 42lb/sqft. Aquariums are comparable to big gun safes. The failure mode isn't punching a hole and falling through the floor. The failure mode is sag over time. Wood will continue to stretch and bend over time. Eventually, cracks will appear in Sheetrock, adjacent windows won't open, and doors won't close properly because the weight has caused things to move. Given the typically shoddy nature of modern home construction, I think it's an important consideration. But I'm anal like that. Most people get tired of all the maintenance that goes into an aquarium and get rid of it before anything really bad happens anyway.
  22. This. The FFL retains the form 4473with the buyers name and the gun serial number, but they don't give that info to anyone... unless they surrender their license (quit the business) and are require to give their records to the ATF. If a gun is used in a crime and the police are researching it, they contact the OEM who looks up which distributor got that one. Then they ask the distributor which retailer got it. Then they ask the retailer (FFL) who bought it. Then they contact you. If you no longer have it because you sold it to another person, you tell them that. If you don't have record of who you sold it to (an individual is not required to have any records) that's the end of the line. And carrying it on your person somewhere other than your property requires a handgun carry permit (HCP). There is no requirement to conceal it, but it's generally considered to be a good idea.
  23. No. 500lbs + 150lbs = 650 lbs total weight. 2' x 2' = 4 sqft. 650/4 = 162.5 lb/sqft. Just a bit beyond the 40 lb/sqft load rating. As @10-Ring says, there are a lot of things to consider, and there are things that can be done to make it work, but your best option is to consult a structural engineer. Im a mechanical engineer and I have a 50 gallon aquarium. It sits about a foot from an exterior wall. I have a crawl space and so I installed supports from the ground to the joists directly underneath it. .... and the idea of the tv on continuous loop does sound appealing some days.
