  1. The latter, of course. https://www.guitarworld.com/artists/forgotten-guitar-joe-satriani-plays-surfing-alien-strat-copy
  2. If they were fighting over a fish, it's likely that was a Osprey rather than a hawk. My parents live on the lake and have a resident pair that we see/hear pretty routinely. Mom loves watching the eagle cams.
  3. Then I wouldn't spend $2000 on a guitar yet. Get a $400 one with a good neck and go from there.
  4. Very much yes. If you see flashes of light, get to an eye doc immediately. The time frame is similar to having a stroke, it's not something to mess around with. Lighter lenses or different frames. Comfortable glasses tend to be expensive. I switched to contacts because I kept breaking my glasses.
  5. Is this motivation to use your turn signals? If so, we should get back to this.
  6. Knowing what they sound like when you play them is way more important than how they sound played by someone else. Sound more a function of the player's hands than anything else.
  7. And you have to know what the various internal parts are made of for the data to be worthwhile. Most auto manufacturers don't publish that sort of info. And very few car owners ever see their oil filters much less know if its gone into bypass. Theres lots of tools used to determine relative health of an engine. Oil analysis is just one.
  8. I'm nearly 45 too and I've begun to notice that small stuff is getting hard to see. I've worn glasses and contacts for distance vision since 5th grade. I'm due to go to the eye doc this fall, I suspect he'll recommend readers.
  9. Play them. You'll know which one suits you pretty quickly.
  10. Good to hear, but the walking distance comment applies to basically the entire metro area.
  11. Historically, that's not the best part of town, but its been a long time since I was in that area. It is near several of the nicer historic areas, Point Park and Chickamauga Battlefield.
  12. Roadside dive BBQ joints are usually the best ones. Dixie BBQ in Johnson City was my favorite when I worked there, and The Pig and Chick in Surgoinsville was great, but both closed up several years ago. Neither was really a roadside dive, but they were small and good. Bread of Heaven here in Murvul is really good, as is Full Service. Dixie BBQ in Hixson is good.
  13. I'm a Clemson guy and while they're riding high now, 1981 was a very long time ago, a lot longer than 1998. Clemson through the 90's was like UT is now. I see lots of similarities... a series of terrible coaches, lots of unrest in the fan base. It certainly seems Pruitt needs some work on motivating the kids. They looked like they didn't really want to be there and didn't take GA St. seriously. In contrast those GA St kids smelled blood in the water in the 1st qtr and their coach kept them fired up for the upset of their career. It doesn't help that UT is in the toughest conference in the country. It's going to take several years of consistency to even begin to recruit better than average talent, and those kids need to be developed as team leaders. Peer pressure is a much more effective motivator than a coach barking orders.
  14. The UT faithful are going to have to be patient. The program has had zero consistency for nearly 10 years. It's going to take a long time to rebuild it. If Pruitt learned anything from Saban, he's seen how to do it. They must choose a way forward and stick with it for at least 5 years. More major changes will make it worse, not better.
  15. When I was sick as a dog last week I went out on our porch early one morning. A hummer flew up and landed on the empty feeder, looked at me, chattered, and gave me the stink eye for a moment. So I gathered the energy to make some food and filled the feeders. Now there's 4 of them zooming around, after hardly seeing any all summer. Go figure.

    Fall Trip

    Sounds like you're ready!
  17. Looks nice. Make sure she practices her draw and reholster motions with focus on not pointing the gun at her chest.
  18. My credit score is over 800 and all I do is pay my bills on time. When you apply for a significant loan, banks look at a thing called "debt potential". Meaning, how much debt could you pile up quickly without them knowing about it.... i.e., credit card debt. I can assure you having all those accounts open will be viewed negatively. When we applied for our current mortgage, the lender showed both of us old credit card accounts that we hadn't used in years (mostly store cards) that we'd forgotten about and assumed were closed but they weren't. The sum of the credit lines was a rather big number. The lender advised us that we'd get a better rate if we formally closed those accounts. We did and we did.
  19. Depending on the league, $1000 could be cheap. I work with people who probably spend $1000/mo on travel ball for their kids, and they play 6-10 months per year. One guy spent $3500 taking his daughter to a tournament in California. I've no idea where the money comes from, there's no way I can afford that. Both my boys play in a local church league (I coach) and it's great. It's inexpensive, low key, and there's no psycho, hyper competitive parents to deal with.
  20. Yes, it's water based. Springs should have a coating to prevent corrosion and not be bare steel. Could be as simple as bluing or black oxide, or could be something fancier like nickel or chrome plating, or even the teflon stuff to make them quieter. Ultrasonic agitation is a controlled erosion process. It slowly wears away the surface. The idea is that the crud is softer than the base metal so the crud erodes away without doing any harm to the base metal. But the cleaning action is non-specific, meaning it's always cleaning everywhere. So if a portion of the part isn't dirty, the cleaning action is working on removing the base metal or whatever coating might be there. That said, the benchtop machines generally don't have enough power to do any real damage unless you leave parts in them for days. Something soft like bare aluminum or magnesium will be the first to go. Something hard like a knife or something that's hard chrome plated (not decorative) will be nearly impervious. Heat and increasing alkalinity of the solution will speed up the process.
  21. Simple Green.
  22. Those kids are so talented it's hard to grasp. I can't imagine the sacrifices their families have made along the way.
  23. Ultrasonic agitation will increase the effectiveness of most any solvent. The Harbor Freight type cleaners typically don't have enough power to do much damage. This is the chemical behind M-Pro-7... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/DEG_monobutyl_ether I don't see anything there that would lead me to believe ultrasonic agitation would cause problem.
  24. There's plenty of reception type venues around, but you'll have to find one in the county where shooting is an option. I'd calling around to see if any are receptive to the idea.
  25. Post up some pics if you go please. It doesn't look like we're going to be able to get there, unfortunately.
