  1. Exactly. JIT isn't applicable to everything. Business schools teach one thing, how to run a widget factory. If your factory makes widgets and demand rarely changes, the method they learned works fine and you don't need any inventory. When you don't make widgets, demand is variable, and some items have long lead times, having some stock of hard to get things can save you lots if pain down the road. But they're not taught to think that way. Month to month is about as good as it gets. And this is why I disagree with the bailouts to some degree. Businesses must be allowed to fail, even big ones. It's the only way they'll learn. I like to say we don't have a 5 year plan, or even a 5 month plan. We have a 5 hour plan. We have production meetings twice a day, and there's about 5 hours of useful work that gets done between them. Its absurd.
  2. Kroger here had a few packs of Charmin yesterday and food city had a bunch of several varieties early this week. My wife got some from target last weekend, so we're good for another month.
  3. I've been grocery shopping several times over the past month. What Kroger doesn't have, food city usually does. We've done the buy online and pick up from both places and it's been ok. Seems to depend on who gets your order. One lady was great... texting pictures of the shelves for alternatives when they didn't have something, asking questions, super helpful. Other times not so much. Can't really complain though. The meat and paper products are still picked over, but everything else has been fine.
  4. If you can't shoot it, what's the point?
  5. I estimated poorly and they're 2500 miles away instead of 3000. Is that the source of your confusion?
  6. I'm curious to see where all the social distancing, disinfecting, etc. ends up. Seems to me that going totally nuts about cleaning could cause worse pandemics down the road. Herd immunity is best established by exposure. Vaccines are a big thing here, but not so much globally.
  7. They're 3000 miles from here. Time will tell how long it takes them to make it this far. The African killer bees have moved fairly slowly. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Africanized_bee
  8. Glad you guys are ok. And glad it fizzled out before it got here. I wasn't looking forward to another late night storm.
  9. My wife got more seedlings than intended, so now there's a handful of tomatoes and squash scattered around the flower beds. We'll see how they do.
  10. Depending on how fast things get turned back on, definitely. Lots of industries (mine included) tend to lag behind these major swings by a few months. We've spent the last 2 months working through our backlog, but now it'll be slow for several months while things spool back up again.
  11. I finished reading this recently. The author talked about how they dressed being important to them. https://books.google.com/books/about/My_Sixty_Years_on_the_Plains_Trapping_Tr.html?id=S5lMrgEACAAJ&source=kp_book_description
  12. My employer added about 60 people to the unemployment statistics this week.
  13. Members of the media biasing their reporting to suit an agenda? Say it ain't so!
  14. The fringe was common among trappers/mountain men/frontiersmen in the 1800's. It was considered a badge of honor and visually distinguished them.
  15. I only ever used a pellet rifle for pest control. Tried for head shots whenever possible. As mentioned, shooting a .22 up in the air isn't the best idea unless you're very attentive to the backstop. I'd think a 12ga would blow them to smithereens.
  16. This. Considerably more powerful than .22LR, considerably less powerful than .30-06. Useful for small game up to deer with good bullets and shot placement.
  17. We always have a few veggies appear in the flower beds, usually tomatoes but have had the odd squash and bean plant appear. We've also got herbs that have spread to various places, most of them are considered weeds anyway. I leave them be unless they get in the way ... dill can grow 5 ft high.
  18. Looks great! Pressure treated 4x6's will last a lot longer than landscape ties. Stone lasts a lot longer than wood.
  19. It's a process. Took us about a year and a half. If you want another dog, the right one will come along.
  20. Agreed. We have one in the front yard.
  21. No idea about west TN. They've been running fiber cables here for the last 6 months and I've seen zip about when it'll be available.
  22. Remember Mission Impossible 2? In order to create the ultimate vaccine, you must create the ultimate virus.
  23. Once the virus is out, its out functionally forever. People thought that diseases like polio and small pox had been eradicated through vaccines, but the no-vax movement has illustrated that they're still around. The vast majority of people have immunity to it, but that doesnt mean the virus is gone. C19 will be no different.
  24. My wife and boys got our garden planted over the last few days. Just the usual beans, cukes, squash, maters, etc. I spent last night installing chicken wire to (hopefully) keep the rabbits from eating everything. She had a few extra seedlings that we'll try in pots this year. And get this.... my boys think running the little 2-stroke tiller is fun. I'll milk that as long as I can.
