  1. Honestly, I'm happy to let folks who want to hide at home do just that. If they want to sit on the couch and fret their life away, have at it. I'm not going to take unnecessary risks, but I also know how useful worrying is. Life in 21st century America has too much stress already.
  2. Trust, confidence, and credibility... very easy to lose, very hard to regain.
  3. So we should line the drag strip with penguin poo?
  4. You're really going to force me to agree with a Canadian? Really? There's a bit of an inside joke there as my employer's largest facility is in Winnipeg. They run the IT infrastructure which the rest of the corporate world generally hates. My standard reaction when something goes wrong is that its a feature, not a bug. They told us they thoroughly debugged it, so everything it does must be a feature.
  5. Wow. That's a lot of shine.
  6. So that's what those are called.
  7. Agreed. There's plenty of ADHD diagnoses that are more lazy parents than hyperactive kids. In those cases the wrong party is getting whipped. As I've interacted with more ADHD kids (mostly coaching baseball), I've learned that they're much more engaged than you might initially think. I find their fidgeting very distracting when I'm trying to give instruction ( I was raised to sit still and pay attention). But if I force myself to ignore it, a lot of the time they can repeat back what I said to a much greater accuracy than the kids who appeared to be paying attention. It definitely takes some extra shepherding to keep them on task, but that doesn't necessarily correspond to lack of ability.
  8. Most consider big knives scarier than guns. They're much messier, slower, and more painful.
  9. My wife the naturalist also says catalpa tree.
  10. This is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine....
  11. We've seen Albannach, Clanadonia, and Clann an Drumma at the various Highland festivals over the years.... Maryville College, Gatlinburg, and Abingdon. They're all great to watch live. I don't know how they make a living doing that, but it sure looks like they have fun doing it.
  12. The rise in popularity has little to do with fish and a lot to do with getting away from family.
  13. I knew kids with all 3. The peanut allergy kids weren't segregated, we knew they were allergic and it wasn't much of an issue. Same with the ADHD kids, they were a little wilder than the rest of us but didn't get any elaborate accommodations. They were expected to behave just like everyone else. The kids with autism did have their own special classes, but we never thought much of it.
  14. Cool. My boys love those cars.
  15. Heh... Mrs peej knew who they were before I started the video. I'd love to learn to play the pipes. I think that would annoy the neighbors even more than my guitar. This lock-in has produced some cool stuff. I bet next year will be a fantastic year for music
  16. Amen. Black is killer when done well, but it's the first to show flaws and dirt. And its freakin hot in the summer. Fine for a toy, but ill never have another black daily driver.
  17. As long as they had onion rings, I'd be OK.
  18. Interesting guard. How'd you do that?
  19. My understanding is a positive test is functionally forever. That's how vaccinations work. Unless you're meaning an antibody test. But I would still think a positive antibody test would mean you're now an asymptomatic carrier. I'm not 100% sure how that works, but once you've been exposed, that's a positive test. Be that C19, measles, polio, etc.
  20. Hey Mr bad guy, can you please stop beating me to death for a moment? I need to ask this cop who's here to detain you a couple quick questions... Hey Mr Policeman, before you subdue this guy that's trying to kill me, do you have any diseases I should know about? I ask because I'm bleeding everywhere and will need some care right after you dispatch this guy, and I don't want to catch anything that might make me sick. Do I think there are medical people whove tested positive still working? Absolutely. Does a positive test mean you're blackballed from that job for life?
  21. What's good for the goose is good for the gander... release the names and addresses of all medical personnel who've been diagnosed with an infectious disease. I'd want to know if the person treating me was potentially contagious.
  22. 0.3% hospitalization rate, that's certainly something to panic about. Anyone else notice that these results are made public just as things are opening back up? Coincidence? Wouldn't that violate existing HIPAA law? Not that mere law would deter them.
  23. Mine is single story, walkable pitch, and not especially complex. They stripped it bare, new felt, new plumbing and ridge vents, new ice shield, architectural shingles. Locally recommended roofer had 8 guys and it was done in 1 day. I did have a leak a few years later where a nail popped through the ice shield in a valley. Thankfully it came through in the garage so the interior damage was minimal. I called the guy back and he came out promptly and fixed it at a friendly price. If you've got stuff stored in your attic, cover it with a drop cloth before they start. Everything will get covered with debris from the work.
  24. What they said. I also got lucky and several years ago storms finished off what was left of my roof, so insurance covered it. $11k for shingles on my 2000 sqft house. Metal was $25k, I couldn't afford that. Two layers of shingles are OK, some will do 3 layers but that's getting awfully heavy. If you can see the sheathing from the attic and its OK, a 2nd layer is a lot less work if DIY'ing. You can also install metal over the existing shingles. Lots of construction going on so you may have to wait a while to get a good roofer
  25. Hospitals are financially motivated to report C19 deaths. They get more reimbursement for a positive test. https://www.factcheck.org/2020/04/hospital-payments-and-the-covid-19-death-count/
