  1. We have an 8 yr old blue heeler and dalmation mix that we got from the shelter. She's been a good dog, though very high maintenance. She's got canine epilepsy and is very high energy and high strung. The high energy part has faded a bit now that she's older, but she's the type that can't sit still if anything is going on. Our 2 yr old chases her around the house.
  2. I recall a few single hand shots in close. Maybe weak hand at 3 yds and strong hand at 7 yds? Either way, very easy.
  3. I also have a dog that would (and does) bark like mad at any unusual noise. She's not real big, but sounds like a big dog. There are many instances where a barking dog alone deterred a break-in. My wife and I have discussed this, and she calls the cops, gets my other loaded handgun out of the safe and waits in our closet. I go get our son and retreat to the closet to wait for the cavalry. Some motion sensing lights for the exterior of the house are also on the "to-do" list.
  4. Best I recall, the instructors stated essentially that anyone who can't hit a full size silhouette 48 of 48 times with no time limit has no business carrying a handgun. Personally, I agree. No one in my class failed the shooting portion.

  6. Just a regular file or sandpaper should work. I wouldn't use a dremel for fear of melting the plastic.
  7. ^ That alone would constitute a failure per the standards where I took the test. But regardless, the written test is easy. Just pay attention to the videos and instruction.
  8. Welcome!
  9. I went ahead and pulled over because I knew he got me. His car was the only other car I'd seen for several miles. When he passed, he was clearly standing on the brakes in preparation for turning around, moments later I saw blue lights. If I know I'm doing something wrong and get caught, I'll freely admit it. I'd rather deal with a calm officer as opposed to one who's pumped up on adrenalin from "the chase". In your situation with lots of traffic, I would've kept going too.
  10. Greetings!
  11. Me too, though mine is a Leatherman. I use the pliers and scissors more than anything else. I ponder getting a generic pouch to carry a spare mag and small flashlight (dig the Maratac!), but haven't convinced myself yet.
  12. The Smartcarry sounds like a pretty good option. Probably as easy if not easier access than in a pocket. I've considered getting a generic nylon belt holster from Lowes or similar to carry my flashlight and spare mag in, but I'm yet to convince myself that I want that stuff hanging off my belt. I subscribe to the KISS concept and more stuff is just more stuff...
  13. Why would you want to eject a full mag? And why would a trigger job have any effect on whether or not a mag will eject?
  14. That's why I keep mine in the washer instead.
  15. I carry it loose in my front pocket with my keys. Cell phone, chapstick, and loose change in the other front pocket. I carry the pistol IWB with my small leatherman directly in front of the holster for a little extra visual coverage. I've tried it with the mag in the side pockets in my "carpenter's" jeans, but it's really hard to get to with the other hand. Not real easy opposite hand access in a front pocket, but I found the leg pocket was worse. YMMV.
  16. Beltman belt here too. Worth the $$ and the wait.
  17. Here's a point to ponder... Think very carefully about what might happen if you were in a wreck. Stuff inside the car can fly fast enough to break windows during a simple fender-bender. The holster needs to be securely mounted and with some type of strong retention feature for the gun. I suspect that's the last thing you'd like tumbling around in the car (other occupants excluded).
  18. That's the funniest part of the whole post. No alcohol on a Russian sub?
  19. I got pulled over for 67 in a 55 early on a saturday morning in Monroe county a few weeks ago. The officer was heading the other way and I knew he got me so I pulled over when I saw his brake lights. When he walked up I handed him my license and permit. He asked where my gun was and I told him. He said "ok". He asked if I knew why he stopped me and I said because I was going too fast down that hill... oops. Honestly, I really wasn't paying attention to my speed until I saw him. We chatted for another minute or so, he told me to slow down a bit, and let me go. He was very courteous and professional. I was happy.
  20. If you use the blue loctite, no. A few whacks and it should come out. If not, apply a bit of heat. If you use the red loctite or metal epoxy, yes. Drilling it out may be your best option.
  21. The irony of that statement is this... has anyone here personally experienced one of these catastrophic failures? No? How about seen one? Didn't think so. In the grand scheme of things, it's exceedingly rare. Mr. LaHood has waffled on this topic several times... clearly he (or whoever's putting words in his mouth) doesn't have a clue. I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota sued for libel.
  22. Another recommendation for the P-series. I have an old, beat-up P85 MKII that shoots great. I rarely ever clean it (other than wiping the residue off), and it's never malfunctioned.
  23. I also have a Crossbreed Supertuck, it's comfy though I rarely ever "tuck it". A similar option is the MTAC from Comp-tac. I've no experience with them, but I read lots of postive comments about the Highnoon holsters as well.
  24. Welcome!
