  1. I've rented handguns at several ranges and they've only made a photo-copy of my DL, no TICS. I believe there's a form with that question "Can you legally own a firemarm?" as a part of the paperwork you have to fill out.
  2. I've done that a time or two, the reaction is kinda fun to watch. I even let a vacuum salesman in the house once. I was cleaning a few guns on the kitchen table. I said ..."go ahead with your sales pitch while I finish up here...". He shook like a leaf for a few minutes, but I'll give him credit for making it all the way through his talk. The conversation ended with me telling him.... "look, if I'm going to spend that much on something that sucks, it's d_mn sure going to suck more than my carpet."

  4. Thanks for the info. Like I said, I wasn't sure which bill was which.
  5. The only risk is burning your fingers when you pick it up.
  6. Care to provide a source for this information? I've found a bit of conflicting info and I'm not sure exactly which bill is which, but best I can tell Wamp voted against both the bank bail out (Reinvestment & Recovery) and the (Obama-care) healthcare bills. Project Vote Smart - Representative Zach Wamp - Voting Record Who voted for stimulus bailout? Senate and House HR1
  7. Just give a few of them to me, I'm well below my insurance limit.
  8. I used to travel fairly regularly for work, sometimes internationally. I always used zip-ties to keep zipper pulls together and occasionally to lock a tool box. I always left more zip-ties in the bag/box. While my bags didn't get searched alot, I'd occasionally find the paper TSA put in my bag stating they'd searched it. TSA always (and even customs in Italy once) put more zip-ties back on ,which I appreciated. I put the zip-ties on not super tight so they're relatively easy to remove. YMMV.
  9. What they said. Check the airline's web site or call for info. Pack it in a lockable container and declare it when you walk up. Hope you get an inspector that doesn't get excited about such things. Use zip-ties to lock the case. Put a handful of new zip-ties in a bag in the case. Most agents are courteous enough to re-lock the case with the provided zip-ties. Pad-locks can get caught on the baggage conveyors and tend to get cut off if someone feels the need to inspect it later, particuarly if you're changing planes somewhere.
  10. Sounds like you're making good progress. Glad it's going well for you. I think a lot of us are a bit envious of that "readjustment".
  11. I have a friend with a PhD in Chemistry to which I direct such questions. I know what covalent and ionic bonds are, and I know what double and triple bonds are, but I don't recall the "Lewis Structure". .... Ok - Google has educated me on the Lewis Structure, which seems simple enough assuming you know all that electron valence stuff, which I don't really remember. I assume this is for school? Professor/Instructor of no help? Graduate assistants? Classmates (study groups?) Google?
  12. A friend had trouble with my PT145 that I think was due to limp wristing. I've never had a problem with it or any of my other guns (off-hand included), though I can't say I've ever intentionally limp wristed them to find out. My wife hasn't had problems with them either, though she doesn't shoot a lot.

    First gun question

As with most all of the "first gun" threads.... find a range near you that has handguns for rent. Try them all. While Glocks tend to be the , lots of people like other makes better (like me). There's a wide variety available in the $500 range.

  15. Actually, I spent most of the time chasing my 2 yr old around the house. I did see Kobyashi's charge on the last couple laps, and it was quite impressive. Though instead of following that and seeing his last turn heroics live, we got to watch Vettle cruise around and wave at the crowd. That's what bugs me to death. There will be some awesome battle raging back in the field in the closing laps and the TV people think we'd rather watch the leader ride around on auto-pilot and win by 15 seconds.
  16. Bummer.
  17. Did you catch any of the Austrailian V8 Supercars races following F1? Best (car) racing on TV. The leaders do tend to disappear, but instead of having to watch one car ride around by itself (F1), they actually show the guys racing hard back in the pack.

    Ruger P95

The P-series pistols are hard to beat. My old P-85 still out-shoots me.
  19. Some might argue that unless he had "probable cause" to suspect that the pistols were stolen, he had no reason to verify it. If his only intent was to make sure they were safe during their interaction, all he had to do was unload them and place them out of reach. I know that's a bit , but to the letter of the law... I've noticed some people who open carry then get annoyed when they get harassed about it tend to think that way. Personally, I know none of my guns are stolen so I wouldn't have cared.
  20. Some might argue that "running the serial numbers" is a 4th amendment violation, though it's probably SOP. And I'll agree that (when dealing with LEO ), honesty is the best policy.

    The FAL.

The FAL Files Forums <- everything you need to know is here. Welcome to the addiction. While building one isn't necessarily the cheapest option, I'm in the process of collecting parts and tools to build one. All I lack is the trigger group, headspace gauges, and a couple tools. You can find rifles built by very experienced gunsmiths on falfiles for $700-ish if you're quick. I got a NIB Enterprise receiver off falfiles for $260. Coonan seems to be the receiver du jour. Beware DSA - they have good product, but it can take FOREVER to get things from them. I ordered my Imbel kit from them by phone. They charged my card while we were on the phone and was told it'd ship in 2-3 days. I received the kit 5 weeks later (after many phone calls). There's several stories of people waiting over a year for a rifle.
  24. You mean it's the shirt? Dang, I thought it was just me.
  25. Wilderness Road Shooting & Conservation Club | Dedicated to promoting conservation and the shooting sports in the southwest Virginia and northeast Tennessee region - I was a member of this when I lived there. Nice skeet/trap range and 300 yd rifle range. Pistol area is (was 3 years ago) kinda poopy, but I liked well enough. Cherokee Rod And Gun Club - Very nice. I only shot there once as a guest. Unaka Rod and Gun Club - Took my HCP class here. Nice place. Greene County Regulators
