  1. An 8" x 5ft pipe is about 1.75 cuft in volume. Water weighs 62.4lbs/cuft, so the pipe and its contents must weigh more than 109 lbs for it to sink. 1000 rds of 5.56 in an ammo can weighs about 30 lbs, so you'd need about 3600 rounds plus a couple rifles to sink the pipe. You also suggested to fill it with oil, which is lighter than water. So you'd need more weight to overcome the buoyancy of the oil.
  2. We watched it last night, at the insistence of my 10 yr old.
  3. I'll give that a shot. We were standing on a pier, not sure how deep it was, 10 ft at the most with the water still down for the winter.
  4. I wish I knew how folks catch fish in cold water. We went this past weekend and didn't get a single nibble.
  5. Yep.
  6. You typically sign by some combination of typing your name, your birthday, you SSN, or creating your own PIN.
  7. If smallpox was eradicated, why haven't all the other viruses i mentioned also been eradicated? Perhaps there's something unique about smallpox, maybe its more fragile or less easily transmitted?
  8. Vaccines work by preventing symptoms, they do not prevent infection or transmission, both of which can happen asymptomatically. Vaccines prepare your immune system to fight the virus so you don't exhibit symptoms. If a bunch of us got tested for the presence of the viruses that cause polio, meningitis, or measles, the results might be surprising. While we've all been vaccinated to prevent these diseases, that doesn't mean the virus is gone. The anti-vax crowd has proven that these viruses are still around. Vaccinated people have little to fear from those who haven't been. The unvaccinated are still vulnerable.
  9. Indeed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_battleship_Tirpitz There's also an episode of "Drain the Oceans" that covers the Tirpitz. I'd forgotten it sank in very shallow water. And that whole series is really good.
  10. Yes and yes. It helps prevent the pipe from clogging up and it helps prevent the water coming out from eroding a hole in the ground. It spreads the flow out and gives a much greater area to absorb the water, just like a septic drain field. I have 2 downspouts on the other side of the house and my neighbor also has 2. I presume they terminate at the same point between our houses as there's 2 depressions about 6" deep and 3ft long in the grass on the property line straight out from both sides sets of downspouts.
  11. Perhaps it took that long for the German government to release it, or statute of limitations to run out. Sunken warships typically remain property of their government and are considered tombs.
  12. Water coming into the house is always fixed from the outside. Dry Loc is good stuff, but its secondary protection. Come to think of it, I had a similar problem with our house. It's on a crawlspace and there was no vapor barrier when we bought it. While installing the vapor barrier, I found one corner kinda mushy with just a little mold on the joists. The downspout on that corner was buried, but clogged and not done properly. I went out in the pouring rain and saw water pouring out up against the house. So I dug it up, unclogged the pipe, dug a big hole, filled it with gravel and put the end of the pipe in the hole. It was dry as a bone a month later, the mold was dead, and been fine for the last 13 years.
  13. I'd be more concerned about 2 legged predators than those. And I'd definitely want a double action, not a single action.
  14. Two stars on top, one on the bottom. The star closest to the pole should also be the highest.
  15. Its very good. I think their prices have gotten high, but its good stuff.
  16. They don't use block sealant on the outside (or don't use enough), they dont install French drains, they don't backfill with gravel, they don't get downspouts away from the house, and they don't grade properly... because all that takes time and money.
  17. Buddy's is ok. Their meat is good, both pork and chicken. I dont care for their sauce and their sides are mediocre. But the family pack is decent way to feed the kids.
  18. What they said. The mold test could be worthwhile, especially if you have allergies. Id be curious to know how long the downspout had been that way. As you're well aware, it's been a very wet winter.
  19. Welcome to TGO, eh. Chattanooga has fiber optic internet at a reasonable price from the electric utility.
  20. Heh, my wife wants all the farm critters except cows.
  21. Welcome to the dirty side.
  22. Double tap.
  23. This worked for my parents. It wasn't intentional on their part, but they happened to be at the pharmacy when they had a few doses available.
