  1. So the Fatboy was too small... care to elaborate? What did you want to carry that it wouldn't hold? I also specifically don't want a black one, the "dark earth" is a little more expensive. Black is far too "tacti-cool" looking for me and I'm quite sure my wife won't carry it.
  2. Find a good attorney. Decide how much you're willing to spend to have it reversed.
  3. So I'm thinking about picking up one of these... but which one? I think it would be handy for being out and about with my boys. Parents know that kids require lots of stuff. It'll need to contain diaper stuff, snacks, plus the usual cell phone, small first aid kit, flashlight, etc. Oh, and my gun too. I've used a regular diaper bag, backpack, and, a sling pack. I prefer the "hands free" nature of the backpack or sling pack, but access to my gun in it's IWB holster is a problem. Drawing while wearing a pack is a PITA. I'm hoping that I can "man it up" a little bit so it won't look too much like a murse while I'm pushing the stroller around... I'm primarily looking at the Fatboy, or the Jumbo. I like the water bottle holder on the Jumbo but have some concern it'll be too big/heavy when full. I've done a fair bit of googling and most of what I read says they're not as big as they appear in the photos. I'd like to get one that both my wife and I could use. I'm 5' 7" and my wife is 5' 3" both of average build. I've also seen that UTG offers one that looks about right, gets good reviews, and costs about half as much as the Maxpedition stuff. We're not real hard on stuff like this so paying double for the indestructible Maxpedition doesn't hold great value for me. However, if the UTG one is junk... Another option is a pocket gun, and I've been keeping my eyes open for an LCP. But a bag is a whole lot cheaper. So... what should I get? Thoughts, comments, suggestions?
  4. A quick update... the Elidel combined with Cetaphil cream is working quite well. 2 days and the eczema is mostly gone. It's quite obvious he feels much better too. The label on the Elidel has some fairly scary warnings, so we intend to use it no longer than necessary. Hopefully this will "break the cycle" and allow it to clear up permanently. Time will tell.
  5. I've used stock replacements for years and noticed no significant improvement, but I've never done a rigorous A-to-B comparison either. As you said, I use them for the "never buy another one" part. I do believe they help a little when used in combination with a cold air intake. Dry washable filter? Do tell....
  6. They list the Falcon II at 1500 cu in., which is really quite small for pack. About the size of a small-ish kid's school backpack. It also looks like it has lots of small pockets instead of one real big pocket. For reference, a typical hiking daypack is at 2000-2500 cu in. A multi-day pack is 3500-6000 cu in. I also have no idea how you'd draw a gun from a backpack.
  7. I know what you meant, but this still struck me as funny. I have nothing useful to add here...
  8. If you can hit your intended target and afford the ammo, use it.
  9. Does it group well with irons? If not, you have an ammo/twist/barrel/headspace problem. Bases and rings tightened properly? Do they stay tight? Are you sure that scope is intended for high-powered rifles? Centerpoint makes good rimfire scopes, but I can imagine a rimfire scope to be all over the map on an AR.
  10. Thanks for the responses. We'll give the Amlactin a try. We have used the Eucerin Aquaphor essentially as a lotion on some of the worst spots. Mainly when they've cracked open or he's scratched them open because it doesn't seem to burn/sting like the other lotions do. It heals up the cracks quickly but doesn't seem to do much for the general skin irritation. That and it's really greasy and rubs off on everything. It worked very well on his big brother's nasty diaper rash. Regarding food allergies... we thought about that early on with all the spit-up problems. We've no history of anyone in the family with food allergies. The dr.'s seem to think lactose intolerance is very unlikely since he's gaining weight normally and otherwise perfectly healthy. We've thought about trying the soy based formulas, however it seems that lots of people with cow's milk allergies are also allergic to soy. I dunno. I've also read about the bleach water baths and asked the dr. about it. He basically said we could try it if we wanted but it's usually used for more severe cases where there's issues with open sores and infections. And bleach tends to dry the skin out even further too... Again, I dunno. Me being the nerdy engineer type really doesn't like this seemingly ad hoc treatment method. Just trying 50 different things until you find something that works doesn't seem very scientific to me. And my boy continues to suffer while we try this for 2 weeks, then that for 2 weeks, then... I guess there's no definitive tests for such things. I'm the Dad, it's my job to have all the answers. Not having them pisses me off.
  11. Anyone else dealt with baby eczema? Got a miracle cure? Our 5 month old son has got a stubborn case of it. He's rashy on his forehead, back of his neck, crooks of elbows and knees, and his entire chest/tummy. We've run the gamut of over-the-counter moisturizers (Lubriderm, Cetaphil, Eucerin, etc.). All of those provided some measure of temporary relief, though some cause a burning sensation immediately after application. Great fun with a baby. We moved on to the $30/8oz bottle prescription Elidil yesterday. As his motor skills are developing, he's beginning to be able to scratch where it itches, which makes the problem worse. He's also not sleeping through night yet either. 5 months of this is wearing us down. What I've read indicates that eczema is basically an allergic reaction, and good luck figuring out what the allergy is... We wash with Dreft, tried Tide Free-n-Clear with no effect. He's also been a "happy spitter" with mild acid reflux, which adds to the fun. We've cycled through several types of formula and found Similac to work the best. We've recently started on rice cereal which has helped with his sleeping.... only up once per night instead of twice. Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?
  12. I've found this to be a good resource when shopping for things like packs. Backpacker Magazine - Gear Finder
  13. Ouch. I like to think that, should the need arise, I could stitch myself up like that. Thankfully, I've never needed to. Given the option, I'll gladly defer to a professional. My biggest fear is not getting the wound clean enough. An infected wound can be far worse than the wound itself. Hope it heals up quickly. My wife ended up with a staph infection resulting from an encounter with the business end of our dog (her fault, not the dog's). Her howling (again, my wife, not the dog) led me to not do as thorough a job cleaning it as I should have, so it got infected. I guess I'll have to be less caring next time.
  14. Nice bike. Lots of good advice here. The MSF class is an excellent place to start. My meager additions... Remember that not only everyone, everything is trying to kill you. Got a $2 head? Wear a $2 helmet. You'll really like the Scorpion. I'll get one when my Shoei needs replaced. Don't mind hobbling for the rest of your life? Then you don't need boots. Real, reinforced riding boots with ankle protection, not the crap they sell at the harley store. Don't mind having to ask someone else to wipe your arse for your for the rest of your life? Then you don't need gloves. Again, real armored, gauntlet closure riding gloves. June bugs at 70 mph hurt more than you think.
  15. Only when saving the world become profitable, will it also become a priority.
  16. You might also consider some sort of wall covering for the inevitable solvent splatter. It'll soak in and is difficult to paint over.
  17. For VW, I'd say Google is your best bet. While they certainly have lots of stuff, I don't think Jegs or Summit will have much for a Jetta.
  18. What he said. I think I like the standard 3 dot set for 6:00 hold better for true accuracy, but these serve the purpose. It took me a while to figure out why my PT145 was shooting low when I bought it. Then I saw the picture above.
  19. State parks - Yes. City or County parks - maybe.
  20. Good snakes and bad snakes.... http://www.tn.gov/twra/pdfs/snakesposter.pdf The best thing you can hope for is to have a couple of owls on the property. Not only do they eat the same vermin as the snakes, they eat the snakes too.
  21. +1 The only place I use my debit card is at the ATM. I know the debit card has the same protections as a regular credit card, but it's not directly linked to all my bank accounts. My mortgage is on auto-draft so I'd hate for someone to empty my bank account the day before my mortgage payment.

    Hiking Pistola?

I'm also far more worried about people and hogs than bears. My only bear encounter involved the bear doing it's best to be invisible. It dropped flat on it's belly and laid there motionless about 50 yds away. We backed away slowly to about 100 yds and it got up and ran away. I typically wear a pack when I hike. Sometimes the pack contains the usual snacks, drinks, first aid kit, etc. Sometimes it also contains one of my kids. My IWB holster doesn't provide good access while wearing the pack. I've been thinking of getting one of those safe-packer holsters, but they seem awfully expensive for what they are. I also carry bear spray. edit... (off topic)... JMR... dig the avatar. Loved that movie when I was a kid. Haven't seen it in ages.
  23. What they said. Pull the plug and check for spark. Smell for fuel. Sounds like a bad ground somewhere (broken switch, loose connection, abraded wire, etc.). Start at the switch and work your way down.
  24. That's the crane technique. This is a heron....
  25. This (mostly). Better ammo may help, though what you've got is pretty good. I assume this is off-hand. Can you "call your shots"? Working on that will help with the flyers. A match grade trigger may also help. 200 rounds is a lot. Are you sure fatigue (mental and physical) aren't contributing? Adjust the sights so your groups are centered. Who cares where anyone else's groups are? It's your gun, set it up for you. I've not shot lots of other people's guns, but when I have it's been rare for my groups to be in the same spot as theirs with the same gun. Particularly with iron sights.
