  1. Confirmed: 55-8-104. Obedience to police officers. — (a) No person shall willfully fail or refuse to comply with any lawful order or direction of any police officer invested by law with authority to direct, control or regulate traffic. ( A violation of this section is a Class C misdemeanor. Acts 1955, ch. 329, § 4; T.C.A., § 59-804; Acts 1989, ch. 591, § 113. Source: Legal Resources Though I'm sure refusing would be a matter of submitted to arrest for non-compliance and proving yourself right afterwards. ... and IBTL.
  2. C'mon.... you all know you'd hit it.
  3. The power flickered a bit last night, howling wind (50+ mph), and torrential rain for a good 20 minutes. No damage at my house, but a neighbor has a tree down. Several more trees down on the way to work, though none appeared to have done significant damage to houses. We sure do need the rain, but I'm beginning to think drought is better than repeated damaging storms.
  4. Both Walmarts and the K-mart here sell boxes of clays. They make fun targets. Ballons, cans, plastic bottles, tennis balls, golf balls... are fun. Add a little flour or baby powder if shooting at long range to verify impact. The tannerite stuff is awesome! You can split a single package. We put some in soup cans and sealed them with duct tape. BOOM!
  5. That sounds hilarious. Though I'm sure she didn't think so.
  6. Not sure that's worse. It's outside the car, isn't going to fly up my nose (yes, I've had that happen), and it's easy enough to just grab and toss it into the bushes. That's very interesting though. How long did it ride?
  7. Sounds like you should keep trying to find the perfect gun for her.
  8. I believe it has to do with destruction of the target carriers and the very high energy of ricochets (proximity of adjacent ranges). I believe you also have to prove your ability to shoot accurately at 1000 yds to range officers before you can do so unsupervised. You can't just walk in off the street and set your rifle up on the 1000 yd line.
  9. Correct. They have a 1000 yd range, but .50 BMG is not permitted.
  10. My wife is on facebook, but I'm not. I can see that it's a good way to keep in touch (inexpensively) with people some distance away. Though I've noticed that it does tend to consume some people. Personally, I think it's an excellent way to reconnect with a lot of people you hoped you'd never see again.
  11. I'll try that. It sounds better than my method of rolling down all the windows, and swatting at the fly while weaving all over the road.
  12. ... when a fly gets inside your vehicle, out of the 1000+ cu-in. of interior space, it feels the need to occupy the 100 cu-in. between your nose and the windshield?
  13. The big two things that may be found in typical backcountry streams are Cryptoproiduim and Giardia. Cryptosporidiosis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Giardia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The main reason why it's stated to boil water is simply because it's visually obvious and ensures you got the water hot enough. I doubt most folks will have a 250 deg thermometer handy to know when they've reached 160 deg. But also as stated... dehydration will kill you much faster than any of these bugs. 14. Do the people you hired have insurance? They dropped it, they should replace it. If they don't and aren't going to replace it, your home owner's is likely your only option. If the safe wasn't a lot more than your deductible... I'd say you're SOL.
  15. There's an oxymoron if I ever saw one... Amen.

    Ruger LCP?

Gander Mtn had them advertised for $300 this week. Which happens to be the same price as most of the independent gun shops sell them for.
  18. His stupidity was proven long before now...
  19. I'd bet most people don't have 6 days of food on hand. We keep a reasonable supply of canned goods on hand, but I doubt I have storage space for 6 months of food.
  20. Good article and it re-reminds me that I'm lacking in several areas. I do think that this kind of preparation is good for minor to moderate problems. If a major event (tornado/hurricane) comes through and blows everything away as has happened recently... well, all my supplies would be gone too.
  21. Gotta use those carabiners for something. When both boys are with me, they'll likely be a paci hanging on it too. It takes a real man to do Barbie karaoke. I salute you! (and I'm glad I have boys )
  22. I figured I’d resurrect this thread and share a review of what I got…. First of all, as I stated above, the UTG bag was on back order. The initial 7-10 days turned into 4 weeks. I didn’t want to wait that long so I surfed around and found the 5.11 PUSH bag was quite similar, though it was more than I wanted to spend. Somewhere online (I don’t remember where) had a good sale price on it and Optics Planet has a price match guarantee, so I put that to the test. I submitted the competitor’s price on the 5.11 bag to Optics Planet and the next day they sent me a coupon code to match it (~$10 savings). Still a bit more than I wanted to spend, but better than waiting a month. So I changed my order and had the 5.11 bag, holster, and double mag pouch a few days later. While the back order itself was a bummer, I give Optics Planet kudos for customer service. On to the bag… I’ve used it a few times and it’s nice, I’m happy with it. Generally good quality throughout, sturdy fabric, good seams, nice stitching, plenty of pockets, etc. My only nit-pick is the small pocket on the top that’s intended for a phone, camera, or sunglasses needs a soft liner (fleece?) to prevent scratching delicate stuff. The side pockets for water bottles are nice and seem to provide pretty good insulation. I put a frozen 20oz bottle of water in on side and after about 5 hours in 90 deg temps (walking around Dollywood), it was still about half frozen. As you will see in the pics, it holds plenty of stuff and works quite well as Dad’s diaper bag. Loaded up with everything you see plus 2 water bottles it weighs about 7 lbs. It was comfortable to carry all day even with the added weight of my 3 yr old on my shoulders for a while. Overview: Packed with all the goodies Dad needs... Obligatory weapon shot. My pistol fits pretty well in there. I like the holster... thanks to BigK for the suggestion! The double mag pouch barely squeezes in there with the gun, but I've only got 1 spare mag for this one I practiced drawing a bit and while certainly not super-speedy, it works well enough. The set-up is rock solid. It doesn't move around in there at all. Here's all the goodies spread out so show what's really in there. Even with all this stuff, it isn't jammed full. I tried it with additional accessories (not shown) for the 6 month old (a couple diapers, bib, burp cloth, and a spare onesie), and that pretty much filled it up. You guys only wish you could rock the man purse as hard as me...
  23. Had similar experience with ambulances and/or firetrucks. The emergency vehicle is stuck 4 cars back and people won't freakin' go for a green light! I'll bet they are the same people that sit and wave at one another to go at a 4-way stop. Just GO!! Sad but true.
