There's all sorts of fun things to shoot, though some are less fun than others to clean up afterwards. Balloons with some baby powder inside, any old aerosol can, various melons, ...

They have contacted TWRA about getting a nuisance permit. TWRA has been slow to respond. My folks have 12.5 acres that borders about 40 acres of TWRA property. I'd assume that most municipalities have leash laws. It's clear how well they're both enforced and obeyed. I'd also agree that the deer in photos was sick. I can't imagine that a dog could catch a healthy deer in the woods, much less bring it down.

Beltman and a better holster.

So letting my dog chase away the nuisance deer who continue to eat nearly every plant around my parents house is against the law, but shooting them is legal? Interesting...

I'll attempt to revive this, now that I have access to my photo account again... Playing with a Canon DSLR and macro lens I bought for work. Taken in my backyard... NC Arboretum in Asheville a couple years ago. All the rest with a Canon Powershot P/S... Hilton Head last year. My son's first time seeing the ocean. He had more fun than he could stand... Sunset Some random person's garden in Charleston, SC a few years ago. Flags over Ft. Sumter There's more, but that'll do for now...

My dog loves to chase deer, but she's never actually caught one. Even if she did catch one, I doubt she'd know what to do with it. She's had several interesting adventures while in chase. The fastest I've ever seen her run was chasing down a nice sized doe across a 5 acre mowed field. She got to within about 20 ft of it, but the deer jumped a fence at the edge of the property and disappeared into shoulder high grass. I feel sure that these dogs are what I'd consider "semi-wild" in that while they may have collars, they're certainly not house pets. We had an unpleasant encounter with some when I was a kid at a Christmas tree farm. We were picking out a tree and several "farm dogs" got after someone else's pet. We snatched up our dog and jumped in the bed of the truck. I recall several men (Dad included) running around with shovels and axes trying to fend them off. The pet they were after ended up hiding out under our truck. A couple got whacked with shovels while trying to get it and finally ran off. An exciting few moments for sure. We got our Christmas tree somewhere else the next year. If one was causing problems on my property, I'd dispatch it. Out hunting somewhere that's not my land...? I guess I'd watch the show.

Since you brought it up... the rotational energy of a bullet is much less than it's translational energy, hence it's typically neglected. For a 7.62mm, 123gr bullet traveling 2400 ft/s while spinning at 250,000rpm: Translational KE = 0.5*m*V^2 = 1571 ft-lbs. Rotational KE = 0.5*I*w^2 I = mass moment of inertia, approximating a bullet as a cylinder = 0.5*m*r^2 Combining, Rotational KE = 0.25*m*r^2*w^2 = 15 ft-lbs. Thus the translational KE is 99% of the total.

Quite true... however, you can nearly buy a sack full of keltec clones for one P238. (That's only a modest dig... the SIG is a very nice gun).

I pocket carry a P3AT in Desantis Nemesis holster. As stated, accuracy is key. Hits to the thoracic cavity will stop anyone. Mine has proven to be minute-of-paper-plate accurate fired relatively quickly, one-handed, inside about 10 yds. That's good enough for me. Is .380 the ideal defense caliber? Clearly no, but it sure hits harder than my knuckles. There's several stories of cops being killed by a .22 while wearing body armor, as well as perps who needed 10+ hits from a .45 to go down.

Only place I know of... FAL Builds Pricing

Truth. KE = 0.5*m*V^2 It takes 8x more mass to get the same energy as doubling the velocity. I've always wanted an AK and thought I wanted one in 7.62 just to stay common with my SKS. This thread has gone a long way toward convincing me otherwise.

News Releases As of 4 years ago. 2/3/2010 - Hunting License Sales Increase in 2009 - Outdoors - Chattanoogan.com Approximately 700,000 in TN. Interesting info on the size of armies around the world... List of countries by number of troops - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia China has the largest "active duty" army at 2.3 million. We are 2nd at 1.6 million. North Korea has the largest active duty + formal reserve army at 9.3 million. Followed closely by South Korea at 8.7 million. We have 3 million. If you include what they consider "paramilitary", which they don't really define, Russia is by far the largest at 21.8 million.

Tennessee Woman Told to Remove American Flag
peejman replied to Garufa's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
If the policy is in her lease, by laws, or any other document she signed or was formally notified of... then there is no issue. Seems that would be quite easy to determine. Since she's leasing, it's not her property anyway. Seems to me they could tell her to remove it, documented policy or not. -
ORSA Home Page or Tac2 Unfortunately, they're not public. Though you might find a member that will let you in as their guest.

Yes, it's very reasonably priced right here... Cumberland County Playhouse, Tennessee's Family Theater, 2011 Productions My wife and I generally prefer the comedies. The one we saw previously was "The Foreigner" and my stomach was sore the next day from laughing so hard. And we still have running jokes based on lines from that play. We used to live near Kingsport and went to the Barter Theatre several times. It's also fantastic.

Our 10th anniversary was about a month ago. We've got a "just us" long weekend get-away planned for the fall, but it was strongly hinted that me arranging a "night out" in the vicinity of our anniversary date might be a good thing. After some searching I got tickets for us to see "Little Shop of Horrors" at the Cumberland County Playhouse, Tennessee's Family Theater, 2011 Productions . We've been to the playhouse a couple times before and it's always been excellent. This time was no exception... hilarious, well done, just plain good entertainment. Highly recommended. :up:That they happened to be showing LSOH worked out well, as one of the first real dates my wife and I went on was to see our school's drama club production. I managed to talk grandparents into keeping the boys over night and managed to find a very nice little B&B nearby... McCoy Place . They call it "An idyllic weekend retreat" and I agree. It's very quiet and peaceful. I spent about an hour on the screened porch sitting in a rocking chair, sipping a cold drink, and watching about a dozen humming birds fight over the feeder. Very relaxing. It's a nice house, with nice hosts, and excellent breakfast. Quite reasonably priced as well. Take your better half to see a show. You'll enjoy it and she might think you've got some culture. Just thought I'd share.

+1 (mostly). While her liability for misses is no greater than anyone else, its surely to become an issue in court. Home defense? I'll buy that. Actually carrying in public? Not so much. I think a trained dog is the best solution.

Married guy 'Kitchen Pass' Strategy and Tactics?
peejman replied to QuietDan's topic in General Chat
My wife is a stay-at-home mom to our boys. We have a tacit discretionary spending limit of about $50/month. She tends to spend $40 here and $30 there while I typically save for a while and drop bigger money on one thing. We discuss big purchases which means most any toy I want gets talked about. I sometimes get frustrated with some of the useless crap shes wastes money on. But I'm sure she feels the same about me. At the end of the day we live within our means and very rarely fight about money. A friend has an interesting strategy for such things. His conversations with his wife go something like this... Him - "Hon', I ordered a new exhaust for my bike today." Her - "Ok, how much was it?" Him - "$1800." Her - "$1800!!! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FRICKIN' MIND?!?! We can't afford that!" Him - "I'm kidding dear, it was only $900." Her - "Oh, well, um, I guess that's not too bad then." He knows she would've reacted the same way had he told her it was $900 to begin with. But $900 sounds like a lot less than $1800. -
Has anyone ever found a Black Widow spider in their mailbox?
peejman replied to Will Carry's topic in General Chat
I keep my grungy, yard work shoes next to the door in my garage. First thing after I got up at 5:30am, I decided to go turn the sprinkler on. So I went into the garage and puledl those shoes out to walk around outside. I as typically do, I thumped them both on the floor to shake out any unwanted visitors, lest my bare feet have company in the shoes. A great big female Black Widow came tumbling out. She met an unfortunate demise shortly thereafter. A friend and I were hauling a bunch of concrete landscaping blocks from his house to mine. They'd been stacked up behind his house for about a year. We found 15 Black Widows while moving the blocks. There's a good reason why the guy who comes to read your water meter wears one welding glove. -
Visit the local shelter or humane society. I tend to avoid any sort of "pure bred" dog because of the frequent congenital health issues. If you're getting a puppy, I hope one of you will be home most of the time. Dogs are pack animals and don't like being left alone. As the owner of a anti-social dog, I'll agree that socialization (with people and other animals) is very important. If you want any sort of "working dog" breed, you MUST exercise them frequently and give them a job. There are few things more destructive than a bored dog. Read Cesar Milan's books. Yes he's a dork, but he's right most of the time. His techniques for dealing with a dominant dog work. Cesar Millan's Official Website | Achieving balance between people and dogs.

Fixed. I choose not to let such comments bother me. Instances of changing someone's opinion on topics such as this via a web forum are exceedingly rare in my experience. Hence, I (typically) choose not to engage in such debates. At the end of the day, both parties have simply wasted a lot of time. I have little of that to spare. Now... back to your regularly scheduled (on-topic) thread discussion...

Gotcha. The only rifle I own with a synthetic stock is an FAL. It has a low density filler inside a high density shell, but it also contains the recoil spring/tube. The synthetic stock on a bolt gun is obviously the "bargain" option and is manufactured as such.
