    SKS Tech Sights

I've not heard of Tech Sights, though I like the look of that. I have been trying to decide between Mojo sights or Williams Firesights (Williams Gun Sight Company - SKS Rifle FireSight Peep Set). Now you've added a 3rd one to consider...
  3. There's an easy solution to this.... Park somewhere else. My employer (like many) has the "no weapons" clause as a condition of employment. If, for example, I intend to go to the range after work and don't feel like wasting 30 minutes driving back home to get my stuff, I bring it with me and park at the business next door. My vehicle isn't on company property so my employer can't search it. The owner of the property its parked on isn't my employer and can't fire me. All they can do is ask me to move it, or have it towed. I'm not aware of a vehicle ever being searched anywhere I've worked. I do recall one vehicle being towed, but it had been sitting in the lot for over a month. Another point to consider is the liability of having it in the car. Say an unsavory student (or employee) finds out she has a gun in her car. So the person breaks into her car, steals it, and shoots someone on the property. While she may not be legally liable since the gun was stolen, she'll most certainly lose her job and have civil suits to deal with.
  4. Agreed, but the 20mm rifle itself seems MUCH larger. Bullet energy seems comparable at ~30k ft-lbs.
  5. This. And this. I think it's great that these folks are open minded enough to let their kids experience such things and decide for themselves. As an engineer, basically all of what I do is based on science. Simply accepting some things on faith and without objective, tangible evidence is hard for me. But then, that why it's called "faith". I think it helps keep me humble and helps me keep things in perspective. For me (and I suspect many others), church is as much a social opportunity as anything else. You meet people from all walks of life and can learn valuable things from their experiences. One of my co-workers freely admits to attending mass simply to appease his wife.
  6. I've been there and it's very humbling. December 7th 2011 is a touch happier in my house, my youngest is 1 today.
  7. I believe the Anzio 20mm is bigger... MAG-FED 20MM RIFLE - Anzio Ironworks
  8. Love my PT145 (aka 24/7 compact).
  9. All I have to say is...
  10. Fad for 95% of the people who buy them. The other 5% actually live on a farm.
  11. Dad is a wood turner and he's made several things from purple heart. What he uses to finish them varies based on the intended use. Sometimes it's oil, lacquer, polyurethane, or nothing. A little googling highlighted something else... his pieces typically sit for several days if not weeks between sanding and applying the finish. How do you finish Purpleheart to keep it purple? Taurus pt145

Love my PT145, points well, fits my hand very well. Had it for 5+ years and somewhere in the 1000 rd range. The only problem I've had was failure to return to battery when firing some really old, corroded, generally nasty surplus ammo (hey, it was free...). My hands were black after about 100 rds. I wiped the gunk out of it and it worked fine for a while longer. Zero other failures. I'm easily "minute of pie plate" accurate with it inside 25 yds. While not my favorite target pistol, recoil isn't bad. I bought it new and the trigger took a little time to smooth out. Note that the factory Henie sights are designed for center-of-mass hold rather than the 6:00 that I prefer. I didn't know that at first and wondered why it shot 2-3" low. The early models had frame cracking problems. "PRO" on the slide and the presence of the accessory rail indicate the "fixed" newer version, which is effectively identical to the 24/7 model.

    Ever eaten Dog?

Dad did numerous church mission trips to Haiti in the past. He said there were plenty of occasions in which they were served "meat" prepared in various ways for dinner. There was a tacit understand among the group that you simply didn't ask. What about horse? Congress recently changed the law to allow horses to be bred for food. I had a bacon wrapped horse filet while in Italy several years ago. It was excellent!
  15. Welcome!
  16. ORSA seems to have most everything. In addition to IDPA, USPSA, 3-gun, etc, they also have NRA/CMP high powered rifle (Oak Ridge High Power Rifle ORSA) and skeet/trap. About the only thing they don't have is sporting clays, which can be found here (Chilhowee Sportsman's Club) among other places.
  17. I've not seen any milsurp can around, but the plastic cans are available lots of places.... Walmart, K-mart, Dicks, Academy, Gander Mtn, etc. I have a few and they seem to work fine.
  18. Can you quantify "longevity"? Are we talking 3000 rds or 30,000 rds?
  19. Chrome lining only matters if you never clean it and shoot corrosive ammo. Some info suggests that non-chromed barrels are more accurate. But if you want chrome lining, I'll agree $9 is quite a deal.
  20. Those differences are completely insignificant for 95% of users. Depending on how the steel is made, they could even be opposite of what you expect.
  21. I can easily see both sides of this and while I know which way I'll go, I can't say I'm real happy with that. On the one hand, I can certainly see it idealism of voting for whoever you think is best, establishment be da__ed. On the other hand... given the size and power of "the establishment", does voting outside that (write-in vote) really accomplish anything? You may think that sends a message, but that only works if anyone is actually listening. How much must be sacrificed in the name of idealism until said idealism prevails? And how long will it take to undo all that has been done? As has been stated, it's been quite a while since I actually voted for a candidate I truly liked. Lately, I've simply been voting for the candidate I thought had the best chance of beating the one whom I least wanted to win. That's a pretty sorry state of affairs. I don't really consider myself "a Republican" but I frequently find myself wondering... Out of all the card carrying members of the Republican party, these idiots are the best they can bring to the table? Really?
  22. I'd bet it's only an office to funnel the money through. My previous employer did that. Manufacturing in TN but all the money went through a small office in SC because the taxes are much lower there.
  23. Kinda like the look of that... what is it?
  24. When I pocket carry my P3AT, the spare mag is usually just loose in the other pocket. I've been trying to find a better alternative. When I carry my PT145, I use this (minus the crap carabiner)...
  25. I'd sure call the cops if I saw some guy running and wearing that garb. Yikes.
