  1. This applies to most any semi-automatic weapon. Slingshot the bolt, that's the only way.
  2. Two chicks? Dood... with $100M, dream a little bigger. Think Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.... all of them. But seriously.... Tiger made one, and only one mistake. He got married. In his world of mega-rich superstar athletes, no one would have cared if he had 16 girlfriends and 5 kids out of wedlock. He obviously could afford them. The media would've over looked it because of who he is. However, since he presented this "Mr. Perfect" family man image, when the crap hit the fan, they crucified him. He grew up with a poor example of how a husband should treat a wife (from his own father) so I suspect it was doomed from the beginning.
  3. Me too. I started shooting left handed but a minor astigmatism that developed in my left eye, combined with being right eye dominant forced me to learn to shoot right handed. I'm still more comfortable shooting a long gun left handed, but I see better out of my right eye.
  4. Welcome!
  5. I'll admit to being a Clemson fan. Yeah.... that was ugly. Turn-overs didn't help things, but that shovel pass was brutal. Glad I turned it off at half-time.
  6. FWIW... this happened in 2006.
  7. I typically move the pistol from my hip or pocket to the center console (in a holster) or door pocket. I don't like sitting on the gun for any length of time. I like that XD idea above.
  8. I might argue that was in the days when and engineer actually got to do engineering. You know, actually having to do math and use formulas and such. I had a job like that once, and loved it. Unfortunately it didn't last long. My current and other prior jobs provided the the opportunity to do "real engineering" rather infrequently.
  9. You must have very acidic skin oils. A machinist I used to work with had to wear gloves all the time because his fingerprints would corrode bare steel in a matter of hours. It was amazing. You might try wearing an "Under Armor" type shirt between you and the gun. I think it helps in hot weather.
  10. The "Black Tooth Grin" is my favorite drink. *sigh* I miss Dime. Watering down maybe, but I wouldn't really call that "mixing". I tried a small bottle of JW Red and found it ... bad. So bad that I actually poured it out. My wife had a similar experience with tequila. I had similar experiences with vodka and Goldschlager. Can't stand the stuff now. Speaking of tequila, try Don Julio. I had some on a business trip to Mexico and it was excellent. Much smoother than Jose or similar.
  11. I used to work in Rogersville, a few miles up the road. I really liked the area. I suspect housing costs will be lower. Morristown is a bit smaller and generally older than M'boro. There's not as much stuff, but everything typically needed is available. Seems a number of folks live around Jefferson City, simply to be closer to Knoxville. There are some very "country" areas around. My best advice is to spend a tank of gas driving around and checking things out. I don't know much about the schools. Oh, and congrats on the job offer!
  12. They shot two guys who were wrestling on the ground? Bizarre.
  13. One less scumbag. Hopefully he didn't breed. 21 minutes does seem like a long time, but I'm quite sure that regardless of the size of the town, the cops have their hands full on NYE.
  14. Welcome! By your avatar, I expected a luthier.
  15. Dad is a retired engineer and Mom is a retired math teacher. I figure I was doomed to be an engineer. Growing up, there never really was anything else. I'm reasonably good at math and understanding mechanical things and I like working with my hands. While it feeds my family, pays my mortgage, and affords me a modest but comfortable living, I don't leap out of bed every morning with excitement. I certainly wouldn't do it for free. I might be a little more motivated if I felt I was doing anything more than making my numerous bosses richer. I hope my kids feel more able to pursue their dreams to a greater extent than I did. If I could do it all again, I might study music, culinary arts, or veterinary medicine. Though, I didn't really find out those things interested me until late in college or afterwards.
  16. I'd stick with Motorola if you want to use android. My wife as been through several HTC phones and all have been problematic, though the latest (HTC Incredible) has been the best so far.
  17. Single stage vs. two stage is personal preference. It can also vary depending on the intended use of the rifle. For target shooting, I like a two stage. For something like 3 gun, I think single stage is better. It is possible to adjust the trigger pull, though you can ruin one pretty easily if you don't know what you're doing. Do a little searching here, there's lots of info. I'm sure our resident expert will appear shortly.
  18. Those dancing lights are really cool. Wish I had the time/talent to do that. My 66yr old aunt (long time pianist/organist) took my 92 year old grandmother to see TSO a couple years ago. They both said it was their first "rock concert". I would've loved to have been there (both to see TSO and their reaction). This is in my home CD changer right now. It's excellent.
  19. How many shots define a group?... 3?... 5?...10? Five consecutive 5 shot groups? I can't say I've ever really tried for maximum accuracy with my P3AT. "Minute of paper plate" while shooting just under 1/sec is good enough for me. I might be able to shoot 3" groups at 10 yds when really taking my time, but that's not what the gun is for. I did get just under 3" with my P85 at 25 yds, bulls eye style. As for your friend... Let's see his targets.
  20. The vast majority of surplus military rifles were carried a lot, shot a little. While they may appear really beat up, there's likely little wear in the important areas. If it is of a caliber and origin where corrosive ammo was likely used, that's a different story. If you can see noticeable throat or crown erosion, then checking headspace isn't a bad idea. Semi-auto rifles typically have looser headspace than bolt guns. It helps them run better. Most rifles will quickly tell you that they need some attention... poor groups, poor function, cases splitting, bulging, etc. long before catastrophic failure is a concern (due to incorrect headspace).
  21. Glad you got your dog back. Theft is one thing I don't have to worry about with mine. There's no way she'd let a stranger get close enough to take her. And if, by some miracle, they did... dealing with her would be their just reward.
  22. HCP's can be fake, just like any other ID. I'm sure the LEO would state he felt it necessary to secure the weapon for his safety, which is perfectly legal and CYA for him. If the LEO had searched the whole car instead of just the bag, that would be an "unreasonable" search, IMO. I got pulled over a couple years ago. Handed the officer my DL & HCP. He asked if I had my gun, I pointed to the duffel in the passenger seat and said it's in there. He said, "ok". And that was that.
  23. Another -1 for Symantec anything. I used it for a long time until I finally switched. It's awful.
  24. There's a very long list... If you don't want to get him more Gentlemen Jack, just find a bottle on the shelf that looks pretty. There have been a couple threads here with various suggestions. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/general-off-topic/57200-i-dont-drink-whiskey-often-but-when-i-do-jack-george.html
  25. Glad she's ok. Seems like discretion may have been a better choice. Go back inside, get the security to escort you out. If something gives you "the creeps", there's a reason for it.
