Some ranges offer "women only" classes. My wife took the NRA's "Women on Target" course a couple years ago and seemed to enjoy it, though her interest has dropped off since then. It's not offered here anymore.

Some of you folks had some cool cars. Mine was AWESOME! 1976 Chevy van.... aka the dragon wagon. 8 mpg with a 36 gal tank, good thing gas was under $1/gal. And no, it didn't have a mattress or a hot tub in the back. Looked like this but was dark/light green 2-tone. Big pimpin', yo.

Need honest thoughts on SIG p238 and other pocket rockets
peejman replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
How much do you have/want to spend? Most of what you need to know is here... http://mouseguns.com/ At the high end... the P238 & PM9 are perennial favorites. Excellent fit, finish, function, all metal, etc. More modestly priced... the CM9, PF9, LCP, P3AT (what I have), and TCP. Not quite so pretty (particuarly the Keltecs), but just as functional. Most all have polymer frames. Drawbacks... None of them are particularly fun to shoot. Some are sensitive to limp wristing. Recoil/muzzle blast is more than some people like. I put a hogue slip-on grip on mine and painted the sights (such as they are) white which helped considerably. -
Haven't ordered one yet, though I did send the trigger group off for rework. I'm still leaning toward the TS100, post up a review when you get yours.

Wills - do you have one, if so how did you create it?

Interesting. Thanks for the info. -
Question. My wife can't rack the slide on any of my handguns.
peejman replied to Will Carry's topic in Handguns
I've helped a few ladies who had problems racking the slide (my wife included). One common thing between all of them was convincing them they can't hurt the gun. The gun cycles much more violently during normal operation than most folks would ever do racking the slide. Don't be afraid of it, get a little pissed off, hit it hard and fast and ..... voila. Piece of cake. -

*whew* I thought I was losing my mind. I saw this thread and would've sworn I'd already replied, but when I didn't see it.... Now I understand.

I'd really like to hear some clarification on the above. I know for a fact that in TN, you do not have to be a lawyer to be an executor of an estate. That's nonsense. -
Comfort and concealablility depends on how big your pockets are and how tight your pants are. I'm not real big and pocket carry my P3AT frequently. Anything bigger than is both obvious and too heavy for me. If you want to stick with 9mm, the Kahrs are an excellent choice.

Thanks much. I like the new style. I've noticed that when you hover the cursor over a thread title, it doesn't show the first few lines anymore. It says "view result". I found it to be a quick and easy filter. I put this in the "sign in" thread too... sorry for double dipping. Edit... just noticed that a black circle with an down arrow appears when you hover over a thread in the search string... clicking the arrow shows a preview of the thead. So... nevermind.

In. The "View New Content" button on the top right, just under the banner does the same thing. I miss being able to hover the cursor over a thread title and have it show the first few lines. I find it to be a very quick and easy filter. -
I find it hard to believe that no one has mentioned Skynrd before now. I love you guys. I can't stand Skynrd. More accurately, I can't stand the same 6-8 songs that are constantly on the radio here. That said, love me some Metallica! However, without Zep there'd be no Metallica, so Zep gets my vote.

Excellent suggestion. Just be sure the stuff in the bucket and the bucket itself won't be harmed by the -100 deg temp. Also do this where it's very dry, condensation is the enemy. Be sure the buckets are very, very clean and completely dry before you use them. You might also consider using one or two as tests before you put all your stuff in there and find it rotten in a couple months.

I just learned something. I have a 59/66A1... mine has the flip up white dot sights, though I'd hardly classify them as "fluorescent". I assumed they all had that. I believe it has a non-ported grenade launcher, but I'll have to check to verify. The comment about rifles that appear to have never been cleaned and working fine.... mine would be one of those. I wipe the easily reached crud out of it, and that's about it.

Asheville and surrounding areas are nice if you can afford it. As stated, the atmosphere is rather ... eclectic. It's beautiful and there's lots to do if you're the outdoorsy type. Beyond that, NC has both a state income tax and personal property tax. TN has neither. I was offered a job near Asheville (Fletcher) but didn't take it due to the cost of living. The areas surrounding Knoxville are nice, Knoxville proper... not so much. ORSA has lots to offer.

One thing I learned from this thread (http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/survival-preparedness/66734-free-survival-manual.html) is variety. Particularly with kids, eating the same thing over and over will get old real fast.

As stated, the SKS is generally best in it's original configuration. Leave the tacti-cool stuff for your AR. Numbers matching Russian variants bring the highest prices. Yugos look the coolest. AK magazine conversions... some work, and some don't. Only one way to find out. Unless you happen across an SKS-M. The triggers are single stage and typically have lots of creep for an extra margin of safety. Cock it, and bang the butt stock on the ground a few times. If the hammer falls, that's bad. Fixable, but bad. Check the bolt for obvious wear and make sure the firing pin moves freely (it floats, not spring loaded). If the firing pin is sticky, a slam-fire condition can result. Again, bad but fixable. Check the bore and chamber for corrosion. Some are chrome lined, some not. Corrosive surplus ammo is going away, but still out there. And one last thing... especially watch out for people who call it a "baby AK". SKS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Saw Godsmack when they were on tour with Metallica a few years ago. Excellent show!
