  1. Interesting. I was under the impression that basically all government buildings (federal, city, & county) were off limits. Reading a bit confirms that it's only in the room while judicial proceedings are in progress.
  2. Better get that deputy's name and send him and his boss a thank you note.
  3. Yes, the RAMI is hard to find. A friend who carries one had to buy it off gunbroker. They list several in your area.... http://www.cz-usa.com/dealers/
  4. Natural selection is still working fine.
  5. Winner! I wondered why it quit working.
  6. #2 and #3 are the biggest problems. A narrow gun must be a single stack. A single stack 15 rd magazine would be very long. A 9mm 1911 variant would be close.
  7. Dogs that have spent a lot of time in shelters can be a handful for a while. As others have mentioned... exercise, discipline, affection, socialization, routine, ... all very important. I've never trained a hunting dog, but have trained several shelter dogs. If she shows dominance issues, Cesar Milan's (dog wisperer) methods work wonders.
  8. I was a member of that range when I lived near Kingsport several years ago. As I recall, anything past 150 yds is "back in the holler" and only gets sunlight a few hours/day this time of year. Can also be interesting getting in/out when it's rained recently. At that time, membership was cheap and not difficult to get. I liked shooting there. Perhaps things have changed. http://wrgunclub.webs.com/
  9. While shooting the computer was probably fun, it would have been more productive to simply wipe the hard drive and donate it to a charity of some sort. Publicly humiliating her isn't the best choice... especially for a girl.
  10. Your best bet is to just try a small box of a bunch of varieties both manufacturers and bullet types. Some guns like one kind, some like another. Only one way to find out.
  11. Follow this thread to see how accurate 7.62x39 can be.... Clearly, cheap surplus ammo in a well worn, sloppy-actioned rifle won't give best accuracy.
  12. Seems like managed areas with food plots and such already are "farms" to an extent. I wonder how a farmer would contain the deer, a 10 ft high fence would get expensive real quick. If for "trophy hunting" purposes, I wonder about how "sporting" it would be. Seems like the deer would get used to people and hunting them wouldn't be real sporting. A friend raises elk, the bull came right up to the fence and let me scratch his nose. You're just not feeding them well enough. Dad had a nuisance permit last fall. They took a 175 lb doe and 160 lb doe from his property. They opened the stomachs to see what they'd been eating and Dad said... "Hey! There's my flower bed!"
  13. Some ranges offer "women only" classes. My wife took the NRA's "Women on Target" course a couple years ago and seemed to enjoy it, though her interest has dropped off since then. It's not offered here anymore.

    Your First Car!

Some of you folks had some cool cars. Mine was AWESOME! 1976 Chevy van.... aka the dragon wagon. 8 mpg with a 36 gal tank, good thing gas was under $1/gal. And no, it didn't have a mattress or a hot tub in the back. Looked like this but was dark/light green 2-tone. Big pimpin', yo.
  15. How much do you have/want to spend? Most of what you need to know is here... http://mouseguns.com/ At the high end... the P238 & PM9 are perennial favorites. Excellent fit, finish, function, all metal, etc. More modestly priced... the CM9, PF9, LCP, P3AT (what I have), and TCP. Not quite so pretty (particuarly the Keltecs), but just as functional. Most all have polymer frames. Drawbacks... None of them are particularly fun to shoot. Some are sensitive to limp wristing. Recoil/muzzle blast is more than some people like. I put a hogue slip-on grip on mine and painted the sights (such as they are) white which helped considerably.

    SKS Tech Sights

Haven't ordered one yet, though I did send the trigger group off for rework. I'm still leaning toward the TS100, post up a review when you get yours.
  17. Interesting. Thanks for the info.
  18. I've helped a few ladies who had problems racking the slide (my wife included). One common thing between all of them was convincing them they can't hurt the gun. The gun cycles much more violently during normal operation than most folks would ever do racking the slide. Don't be afraid of it, get a little pissed off, hit it hard and fast and ..... voila. Piece of cake.
  19. They have a pretty good e-newsletter... http://www.backwoodshome.com/nl/join.html This one too... http://www.motherearthnews.com/ipost.aspx?opt_in_source=header

  23. *whew* I thought I was losing my mind. I saw this thread and would've sworn I'd already replied, but when I didn't see it.... Now I understand.
