I got to make a direct P3AT/LCP comparison over the weekend. A friend just bought an LCP and painted the sights. My P3AT has a slip-on Hogue grip. The glow-in-the-dark white paint on the sights made a big difference in sight picture acquisition. Can't really say whether I was faster or more accurate (there were already a bunch of holes in the target) but it certainly made me feel more confident. He gave me the paint he used so I'll be adding it to mine shortly. The slip-on Hogue made a big difference in grip confidence and comfort. Again, no objective evidence, but the gun felt more secure with the Hogue and cushioned the recoil noticeably. He said he was gonna buy one for his LCP.

In this area.... nearly double what you're paying. I looked for a rental house when we first moved here (Maryville) and was astounded at the cost. A tiny place in a poor location was $600/mo. A tiny place in a reasonable location was $800. A 3br/2ba, $1000+. I ended up in 2br/2ba condo/apt complex for $850. The housing market has continued to slide in this area since then, so prices may have come down some.

If you want to stick with 9mm: Kahr CM9, Taurus PT709 Slim, Keltec PF9 or P11. Personally, I have a Keltec P3AT for pocket carry. It works quite well.

In my experience black oxide wouldn't be the prettiest thing. It's typically used on plain carbon steels to help prevent corrosion. We use it a lot on tooling where I work. Perhaps the shops that do the work aren't trying for pretty because it's just machine tooling. Personally, I think black chrome looks really cool, but don't know where to have it done. I could've sworn I updated my post above, but I don't see it there for some reason... A bit of memory refreshing has reminded me that you'd need to know the exact alloy the slide is made from for an acid etch. There's various etchants for the different grades of stainless. You'd also want a few scrap pieces of this alloy to play with to figure out how to get the look you want. I wouldn't experiment on the gun itself. Cerakote, Tenifer (Isonite), sound like better options.

Depends on how old the kids are. Mine know nothing of safe gun handling practices because at 1 and almost 4 years old, I don't think they're ready though the 4 yr old is getting close. I had to do house shopping a couple years ago. The vast majority of floor plans have no regard for "defense-ability". I'm not real thrilled with that specific aspect of the house we bought, but it was the best compromise of many aspects that was available at the time. Good luck with your search.

This. During business trip to Italy several years ago, an Italian colleague mention that they occasionally ate Robin. IIRC, he said it was a little greasy, but very tasty when cooked properly.

Because the scope height above the bore axis changes when you rotate the gun. Right? I'd love to take a "long range" class and learn about this stuff.

A friend has a set-up similar to this at his house. I don't know the cameras are specifically "outdoor" or not, but they're tucked up inside the eave/soffit. They're nearly invisible and effectively out of the weather. They've been there for several years with no issues I'm aware of. Recently he got images of his garbage man harassing his dogs. Dogs on one side of fence, trash cans on the other. He printed off a pic and taped it to the lid. The next time the guy picked up the trash he got pics of the guy looking all around for the camera, but couldn't find it. Subsequent pick-ups showed that the problem was solved.

I wouldn't dare put a trigger lock on a loaded gun. They typically require some amount of fiddling to get them on/off (the cheap ones I have do). That'd be an ND waiting to happen. As for a lock box being "safe". Not really. If the gun fired, the case might slow the bullet down a little, but certainly wouldn't contain it. But then... guns very rarely fire themselves. My home defense pistol moves from my pistol safe (little more than a lock box) to the nightstand and back every day. It's cocked, locked, in a holster, and only gets unloaded when I take it to the range.

Absolutely correct. Stainless steel will both stain and corrode under the right conditions. We routinely etch titanium weldments with an HF/HN mixture. A nital etch might do what you want. I'll poke around and see what I can find.

13lbs... I wonder what that's like. For me, the minimum weight is about 30lbs, usually closer to 40lbs. My 1yr old weighs 19 lbs, the pack he rides in weighs 8 lbs, plus diapers, wipes, drinks, snacks, camera, bug dope, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, spare clothes, first aid kit, ... and that's just for a trip to the grocery store! The 5-ish mile distance sounds good to me as well. And I also prefer hiking in the cooler weather. It's relatively easy to keep warm as long as you're moving, no bugs, no leaves to spoil the view, fewer people.

While wiring and home electrical isn't typically very complicated, it does require very methodical troubleshooting. A few hours with a voltmeter should provide some answers. (I'm not an electrician) It seems odd that the water heater and home heat would be on the same circuit. Is the freezer 110V or 220V? I assume both the heat and water heater are 220V. If your house is old enough that you've got screw-in fuses. I'd want to make darn sure the wiring integrity is good before changing to a modern breaker panel. While an electrician might be a bit expensive, burning a house down is more so.

Day hiking is a possibility. My camping stuff is for car camping.

I have a really nifty bullet puller... it's called pliers. Yank the bullet, pour the powder on the sidewalk, light it and enjoy, then toss the case and bullet. Someone will probably say that's not especially safe. In truth, I've only done it 3 or 4 times. If you had the proper reloading tools, you could probably reset the OAL.

I've always rotated and checked OAL due to set-back concerns. Never considered the primer failing.

I'm surprised the Nuge doesn't have something like this. Both functions fully operational, of course. Think of the possibilities... not only could we have pointless arguments about caliber, we could intermingle that with pointless arguments about strings!
