  1. I'm a Canon guy, but there's really not that much difference. A friend who's a much better photographer than I, put it this way.... Nikon makes better cameras, Canon makes better lenses. I'd stay away from the package deals. They look like a great savings right up until you realize the lenses are crap. There's just no substitute for good glass. Keep an eye on B&H Photo's used equipment store. Good deals appear from time to time. You should be able to pick up a body and much better lenses for about the same price as that package. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/browse/Digital-Photography/ci/6387/N/4294246666
  2. Similar to this...? If I happened across a cheap 91/30 with a bad bore and/or really crappy wood, I'd make one of these...

    Trying to decide

If you can shoot all three... pick the one you shoot the best. Any of the three would a good choice. Lots more aftermarket stuff for the Glock.
  4. Never heard of it, but it sounds good. The wife and I really enjoyed the "Rome" series. This sounds similar and she likes that medieval "Braveheart / King Aurthur / LOTR" stuff. And there's certainly nothing wrong with a little gratuitous nudity. Perhaps we'll check it out when Netflix picks it up.
  5. If you want to do some research, here's a good place to start... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?tireIndex=0&autoMake=Honda&autoYear=2006&autoModel=Pilot+LX+2wd&autoModClar=&width=235/&ratio=70&diameter=16&sortCode=46300&skipOver=true&minSpeedRating=S&minLoadRating=S&tab=All FWTW... find a tire place that's convenient and has good customer service. Most of the local stores are getting their tires from the same distributor. I'm sure there's small variations in what the shop pays the distributor based on volume, but otherwise they're all basically the same. Call a handful of local shops, just tell them what you've got, and compare what they have to say. I've used a wide variety of tires.... Michelin, Goodyear, Firestone, Kuhmo, Cooper, ... the only one's I didn't really like were the Goodyear's. Terrible wet traction. Anymore I call for a few quotes, google online reviews, compare price, country of origin, and decide who gets my money.
  6. Options I've found: http://www.falcohols...ter-it-526.html http://www.511tactic...stol-Pouch.html http://www.blackhawk...ster,781,34.htm http://www.uncle-mik..._pak_pouch.html Generally, reviews indicate they're all a bit smaller than advertised. If it says... "fits medium frame autos" ... that means you might be able to squeeze one in there, but good luck getting it out in a hurry. My assumption is that bear spray distracts the animal long enough for you to get away. Is it going to writhe around on the ground moaning and wailing? I doubt it.
  7. I've considered a thigh rig, but was afraid there'd be a stampede of tree huggers before I made it out of the parking lot. Kydex paddle holster... hmmmm. Got any details? ... and then Lester reminds me why I'd thought about getting one of those. They just seem awfully expensive for what they are. I think I remember seeing a knock-off at a much lower price, but can't find it at the moment.
  8. I also carry my young'un in a backpack.... Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but how do you carry while wearing the pack? If I snug the pack's waist strap for adequate support, it mashes the gun/holster and is very uncomfortable. Even with the waist strap a little looser, access to draw seems poor at best.
  9. You stick cleaning rods up the bore, right? They're as likely if not more likely to scratch it.
  10. How cool is that! Makes me wish I still lived there. A friend and former colleague was big into reenacting. He did just about every war.. Revolution, Civil, WWI, WWII... He got really bad arthritis in his knees and had to find something a little less strenuous. He hooked up with a guy who owned several artillery pieces and joined his cannon crew. Said it's the most fun he's ever had.
  11. Very interesting. However, it's clearly implied there is a predecessor to this thread... but I can't find it?
  12. Wow. What bait/lure were you using?
  13. Glad it worked out. I doubt my wife would've been so observant. I agree that it might be time for a little practice. Now that's funny!
  14. This. And keep it concealed.
  15. I'd start here: http://www.tncourts....court-judiciary or more accurately, here: http://www.tncourts.gov/boards-commissions/court-judiciary/file-complaint
  16. How 'bout a .45 ACP SBR?
  17. Sounds like quite a character. The cellulitis he's gonna get from those wounds may make him think twice about the doctor.
  18. I'd field strip a brand new one and clean out the assembly/preservative goop if necessary. After that.... I typically just wipe the obvious crud off of it and carry on. I don't field strip and clean but every 300-ish rds, or when the barrel begins to look cruddy. I've never done a detail strip just to clean one. Normally a little CLP and compressed air are adequate without taking everything apart. I believe guns get broken and/or worn out faster by obsessive cleaning than by shooting.
  19. And now you see why folks buy the tools and do it themselves. I think I've got about $120 in the tools. ... $170 if you count the rear stand. JC Whitney bead breaker... $70 Home-made balancer ... $30 Rim protectors ... $20 Rear stand... $50 I also use eye hooks in the ceiling to hang the front of the bike.
  20. A very talented and patient welder could fix them, but that'd likely cost more than new ones. You might find an odd-ball threaded insert that's fractionally bigger than what's there to replace it with. Dare I say.... there's always JB weld.
  21. I had a ball. Would like to do it again but not sure if I'll find the time this spring.
  22. The one-day course cost me $50. I think it varies by location.
