  1. Sorry to hear, condolences to everyone involved.
  2. Thanks to all, I had a great time as well. Thanks especially to Ian for host all us hooligans and ferrying folks up and down the hill. Everyone was very generous in letting anyone shoot anything. Got to shoot a few things I've never shot before, which is always fun. And yes, the .308 Saiga.... awesome! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!... I think it was louder than the tannerite. Mike bump firing the AK was pretty impressive too. Hopefully next time it'll be a little drier... that'll make getting out considerably easier. I was a tad worried about Mike. When in doubt, GAS IT! On to the pics...
  3. It's most like an SA58, that's what they sell. Call DSA to verify. I know there's away to look at it and tell, but I can't remember at the moment. If it's the typical Belgian combo flash hider, it's left-hand threaded and may be brazed on. You'll need a good barrel vise and likely a torch to get it off. Everything there is to know FAL related is here: http://www.falfiles.com/forums/index.php
  4. I'm also about 15 minutes away and it's pouring. Though it does look like only this one band of rain so I'll plan to head over once it passes. I also have a folding table I'll bring.
  5. Ok to carry with HCP in state/national parks, even if posted. The law change to allow carry did not require signage be changed. Though I believe while you can carry on park property, you cannot carry inside a properly posted building in a park. City/county parks are far more confusing as they may or may not have opted out, regardless of signage.
  6. What rear right have you got on the 552?
  7. Keep in mind that when you modify it from the original configuration, an SKS requires 8 US made components for 922® compliance. That said, looks pretty cool.
  8. Sevier Indoor Range is excellent. You can shoot skeet/trap here on weekends... http://www.gatlinburgsportsman.com/
  9. Welcome!
  10. Just finished Raise the Titanic by Cussler. Like all the Dirk Pitt books, its not a literary masterpiece but some good mindless entertainment/escapism, which is exactly the point for me. I enjoy reading but don't have much time for it. My wife is a voracious reader. She's currently working her way through the Jeff Shaara civil war trilogy.
  11. I had a similar PGA experience in college. I would say no, PGA is still much stronger than any vodka I've ever seen. That last 50-ish proof really makes a difference. I can't say what the threshold is, but you're average 80 proof whatever will burn quite readily. So in that regard, PGA is no more flammable than anything else.
  12. That looks great. One hint I've found when using rattle can stuff... Resist the temptation to fiddle with it after painting. Leave it alone and let it dry for a day or two before handling it.
  13. Being one who used to design springs... spring design is as much art as science. There's a lot of variables. Some springs can be designed for "infinite" life, sometimes its physically not possible. It depends mainly on the geometry of the spring, how it's cycled, and what it's made of. Simply leaving a spring compressed can damage it, but that's rare. The vast majority of spring damage occurs from over-compression. That's why you find bump stops in some magazines that only let the follower go down so far. If you remove the spring and mash it flat... you may have ruined it, though it might not appear any different. That said, leaving a magazine from any sort of modern firearm fully loaded for a very long time will not damage the spring as long as it's protected from corrosion.
  14. I understand what you're saying, but according to the families that wasn't the point...
  15. IWB carry of an average sized pistol typically requires pants about 2" bigger in the waist to make room for the gun. If you're trying to stuff the glock in pants that are already snug... it'll get uncomfortable pretty quick. There's a wide variety of tuck-able IWB holsters. All kydex, kydex/leather, all leather. The prices vary as much as the styles. I strongly recommend against small-of-back (SOB) carry. Slip and fall on the gun one time and you'll know why. That said, I carry a PT145 in a crossbreed supertuck at 4:00-ish. I'm not a big person and it conceals fine.
  16. I've used the same 5 stripper clips for my SKS for years. If you don't have a bunch of magazines, it's certainly easier to keep the stripper clips full for faster mag reloads.
  17. If contained in well sealed glass bottles kept somewhere cool and out of sunlight.... booze of reasonable potency will keep a long, long time. Besides, when it comes down to using it for it's intended purpose, people won't care how it tastes. I'd get the cheapest stuff I could find that's packaged adequately. It's useful for a lot more than just a buzz.
  18. Wow. That's quite a collection.
  19. While I find it interesting, I'm not much of an astronomer. You may or may not be aware of this... http://orionastronomy.wordpress.com/
  20. Welcome!
  21. I'm not in there very often, but have always found deals on their clearance racks. Mostly, it's just stuff that's out of season and as you said, typically about 50% off.
