  1. $200 for that is an excellent deal. I'd buy it in a second. Take the extra cash and buy a good lens. Read this...
  2. Just depends on where you can find the best deal. Pay tax on local purchases or pay shipping online. No extra fees, ammo's just heavy. This is a neat site for online shopping... http://gun-deals.com/ammo Depends on personal preference as much as anything. Some guns/people abhor the cheap, steel cased stuff, some love it. There's very little corrosive AR ammo out there to worry about. Depends on the rifle, barrel twist, length of barrel, distance in question, etc... Half the fun is figuring out what yours likes best.
  3. I too had to take a few of those nonsense courses during my engineering degree. They're just a "check in the box" course. You don't really learn anything. Simply memorize what you have to, regurgitate it on the test, and forget it as soon as you walk out the door. If you've not formed a core belief structure by the time you're in college that enables you to determine that these things are total nonsense.... then I don't feel real sorry for someone who gets sucked in. I too had a very liberal US history professor in college. He'd always try to give his slant on things, and I'd frequently point out his errors. He was a good sport about it and we had some entertaining discussions during class. I found out that his son was my high school classmate, which explained a lot about his son...
  4. Along those lines... I typically click the "mark all as read" at the end of a surfing session. Since the introduction of the new classifieds section (though that may be coincidence), when I come back and hit "new content" I get several pages of threads I've seen. The thread titles in the first couple pages are bold, which I assume means they're new, but that's followed by several pages that are neither bold nor new. Previously, I wouldn't get those unbolded threads in the results. Not a big deal, just curious if I'm missing something.
  5. As it has always been, the winner writes the history books. Same thing applies, be it the wartime winner or election winner. Academia has long been the liberal's realm.

    Masters

The albatross by Louis O. was an amazing shot. It certainly got very interesting toward the end. Very happy that Bubba won, he seems like a great guy and is really fun to watch. Would've been a thrill to see Freddie hang in there, but it wasn't to be. I've always liked how effortless his swing seems. I try to emulate his tempo, it makes me slow down.
  7. Trailer lights? Who needs trailer lights? This is Tennessee....
  8. No NFA involvement necessary as far as I'm aware. It's just pistol. A really loud, fire breathing pistol.
  9. Both speed and quality of the glass itself. I bought a Canon Rebel DSLR for work which came with the kit 18-55 lens. I bought the 60mm macro lens at the same time as that's mostly what I do... take pictures of small stuff. I really never used the kit lens until a couple months ago when I needed to take pics of a big machine. I put the kit lens on and took pics. When I looked at them on my PC, they were horrible... grainy, fuzzy, ... just bad. I retook the same pics with the 60mm lens and the difference in quality was staggering. I'm not talking about the $1500 lenses, nor even the $800 ones. You can get very good, general purpose lenses for $300-$500... This body.... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/800850449-USE/Canon_2756B001_EOS_Rebel_XSi_Digital.html plus this lens... http://www.bhphotovi...f_4_5_6_IS.html and this lens... http://www.bhphotovi...3_5_5_6_IS.html is a little more than the kit and you'll have much better equipment.
  10. I'm a Canon guy, but there's really not that much difference. A friend who's a much better photographer than I, put it this way.... Nikon makes better cameras, Canon makes better lenses. I'd stay away from the package deals. They look like a great savings right up until you realize the lenses are crap. There's just no substitute for good glass. Keep an eye on B&H Photo's used equipment store. Good deals appear from time to time. You should be able to pick up a body and much better lenses for about the same price as that package. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/browse/Digital-Photography/ci/6387/N/4294246666
  11. Similar to this...? If I happened across a cheap 91/30 with a bad bore and/or really crappy wood, I'd make one of these...

    Trying to decide

If you can shoot all three... pick the one you shoot the best. Any of the three would a good choice. Lots more aftermarket stuff for the Glock.
  13. Never heard of it, but it sounds good. The wife and I really enjoyed the "Rome" series. This sounds similar and she likes that medieval "Braveheart / King Aurthur / LOTR" stuff. And there's certainly nothing wrong with a little gratuitous nudity. Perhaps we'll check it out when Netflix picks it up.
  14. If you want to do some research, here's a good place to start... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?tireIndex=0&autoMake=Honda&autoYear=2006&autoModel=Pilot+LX+2wd&autoModClar=&width=235/&ratio=70&diameter=16&sortCode=46300&skipOver=true&minSpeedRating=S&minLoadRating=S&tab=All FWTW... find a tire place that's convenient and has good customer service. Most of the local stores are getting their tires from the same distributor. I'm sure there's small variations in what the shop pays the distributor based on volume, but otherwise they're all basically the same. Call a handful of local shops, just tell them what you've got, and compare what they have to say. I've used a wide variety of tires.... Michelin, Goodyear, Firestone, Kuhmo, Cooper, ... the only one's I didn't really like were the Goodyear's. Terrible wet traction. Anymore I call for a few quotes, google online reviews, compare price, country of origin, and decide who gets my money.
  15. Options I've found: http://www.falcohols...ter-it-526.html http://www.511tactic...stol-Pouch.html http://www.blackhawk...ster,781,34.htm http://www.uncle-mik..._pak_pouch.html Generally, reviews indicate they're all a bit smaller than advertised. If it says... "fits medium frame autos" ... that means you might be able to squeeze one in there, but good luck getting it out in a hurry. My assumption is that bear spray distracts the animal long enough for you to get away. Is it going to writhe around on the ground moaning and wailing? I doubt it.
  16. I've considered a thigh rig, but was afraid there'd be a stampede of tree huggers before I made it out of the parking lot. Kydex paddle holster... hmmmm. Got any details? ... and then Lester reminds me why I'd thought about getting one of those. They just seem awfully expensive for what they are. I think I remember seeing a knock-off at a much lower price, but can't find it at the moment.
  17. I also carry my young'un in a backpack.... Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but how do you carry while wearing the pack? If I snug the pack's waist strap for adequate support, it mashes the gun/holster and is very uncomfortable. Even with the waist strap a little looser, access to draw seems poor at best.
  18. You stick cleaning rods up the bore, right? They're as likely if not more likely to scratch it.
  19. How cool is that! Makes me wish I still lived there. A friend and former colleague was big into reenacting. He did just about every war.. Revolution, Civil, WWI, WWII... He got really bad arthritis in his knees and had to find something a little less strenuous. He hooked up with a guy who owned several artillery pieces and joined his cannon crew. Said it's the most fun he's ever had.
  20. Very interesting. However, it's clearly implied there is a predecessor to this thread... but I can't find it?
  21. Wow. What bait/lure were you using?
  22. Glad it worked out. I doubt my wife would've been so observant. I agree that it might be time for a little practice. Now that's funny!
