  1. This, mostly because of the effect is has on my wife.
  2. In theory, all photos are reviewed by an officer before the ticket is issued. While I agree philosophically that these things are far too "big brother" and why not employ an actual person and so on... but as others have said, if you don't break the law, you don't get a ticket. The problem is easy to solve.... If no one speeds and no tickets are issued, there's no revenue stream to pay the lease on the cameras and the cameras will come down.
  3. So you'd prefer higher taxes to pay that extra cop?
  4. So a Haversack holds food, a Shooting bag holds shooting stuff, and a Possibles Bag holds all of that plus whatever else you need. It's the Swiss army knife of bags.
  5. Care to clear up the confusion? Google tells me that a Possibles Bag holds whatever you need it to hold for a day (or three) in the field (food, utensils, shooting stuff, etc.). A Haversack holds primarily food. A Shooting Bag holds, go figure... shooting stuff. Personally, I like the term possibles bag. Sounds a lot better than man purse.
  6. Actually, the majority of the revenue goes to the camera company, not the municipality. The cameras are leased, not purchased. The lease agreement typically requires a significant percentage of the revenue be paid to the leasing company.
  7. Agreed. But the launch angle when zeroed would necessarily be different because of the different trajectory of the bullets. I assume a long range shooter would have recorded zero setting for different loads.
  8. My wife and I really enjoy visiting the Williamsburg area. Looking forward to taking our boys in a few years. I'm not especially knowledgeable, but I find that kinds of historic stuff very interesting.
  9. I took that flag photo at Yorktown National Battlefield Cemetery. Been to Pearl Harbor too, humbling experience.
  10. If you're reading this, thank a teacher. If you're reading this in English, thank a soldier.
  11. A friend hit a deer with his wife and 2 young daughters in the car. The deer wasn't killed and was suffering terribly in the ditch. Their car was mashed pretty good and once he confirmed everyone was ok and called the law, the wife and kids got real upset over the deer. He didn't have a firearm with him, so he found a big rock with which to end it's suffering. A truck pulled up on the scene and a guy got out. The guy saw the big rock and said... don't do that, I've got a better way. He pulled a gun out of his glove box and shot the deer. The cop showed up a minute or two later and noticed the deer had been shot. All the cop said to the guy was ... thanks, you saved me a lot of paperwork if I'd had to shoot it. If you don't want it, I'll call TWRA to come get it.
  12. C'mon... you just can't go and ruin the stereotype like that! How can we make fun of others without stereotypes? Buzzkiller.
  13. Really think it'd be worth the aggravation? She looks really high maintenance to me.
  14. ... and aerodynamics. The above is true when both are fired from a level barrel. As most rifles are "zero'd" at a range beyond 1" from the muzzle, the angle of the barrel and the trajectory of the bullet factor in. The combined effect of both velocity, mass, and aerodynamics are directly proportional to the distance traveled. Differences become greater further downrange.
  15. Based on this... The muzzle energies differ by less than 1%. The "cheap stuff" retains 60% of it's muzzle energy at 300 yds. The "good stuff" retains 65% of it's muzzle energy at 300 yds. At 300 yds, the "good stuff" has 7.5% more energy. That tells me the "good stuff" has a better designed bullet. You also have to consider the aerodynamics of the bullet itself (referred to as the ballistic coefficient). Some bullets have very low drag and hence retain their velocity further down range. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballistic_coefficient
  16. Your nearest junk yard should have one.
  17. I used masking tape, and a small-ish piece. Don't cover the whole lens, just block the forward vision. When I practice regularly, I find it helps. When I go for a while without practicing, I have to start over.
  18. I just learned something. Seen lots of them but never heard it called that before.
  19. This. Even I know better than to mess with a cop's mama.
  20. I have the same problem. Put a piece of opaque tape on your shooting glasses over your non-dominant eye. This will allow you to shoot with both eyes open. Since you can't see much out of the non-dominant eye, the brain will learn to ignore what it's getting from that eye and help train you to be able to see the sights with both eyes open. Some people adjust quickly, some (me) take a while.
  21. Look good to me. Looks like the depth-of-field is a tad shallow. The flag is in focus but parts of the rifle aren't sharp.

    New vs Used

As stated, availability and condition drive the price. Don't expect something that's hard to find and like new to be discounted much. I agree, lack of tax and TICS can be significant.
