  1. Really think it'd be worth the aggravation? She looks really high maintenance to me.
  2. ... and aerodynamics. The above is true when both are fired from a level barrel. As most rifles are "zero'd" at a range beyond 1" from the muzzle, the angle of the barrel and the trajectory of the bullet factor in. The combined effect of both velocity, mass, and aerodynamics are directly proportional to the distance traveled. Differences become greater further downrange.
  3. Based on this... The muzzle energies differ by less than 1%. The "cheap stuff" retains 60% of it's muzzle energy at 300 yds. The "good stuff" retains 65% of it's muzzle energy at 300 yds. At 300 yds, the "good stuff" has 7.5% more energy. That tells me the "good stuff" has a better designed bullet. You also have to consider the aerodynamics of the bullet itself (referred to as the ballistic coefficient). Some bullets have very low drag and hence retain their velocity further down range. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballistic_coefficient
  4. Your nearest junk yard should have one.
  5. I used masking tape, and a small-ish piece. Don't cover the whole lens, just block the forward vision. When I practice regularly, I find it helps. When I go for a while without practicing, I have to start over.
  6. I just learned something. Seen lots of them but never heard it called that before.
  7. This. Even I know better than to mess with a cop's mama.
  8. I have the same problem. Put a piece of opaque tape on your shooting glasses over your non-dominant eye. This will allow you to shoot with both eyes open. Since you can't see much out of the non-dominant eye, the brain will learn to ignore what it's getting from that eye and help train you to be able to see the sights with both eyes open. Some people adjust quickly, some (me) take a while.
  9. Look good to me. Looks like the depth-of-field is a tad shallow. The flag is in focus but parts of the rifle aren't sharp.

    New vs Used

As stated, availability and condition drive the price. Don't expect something that's hard to find and like new to be discounted much. I agree, lack of tax and TICS can be significant.
  11. Wise decision.
  12. So did you burn your eyebrows off?
  13. Keep in mind that while TN may not require a tag on your trailer, other states do. Like window tinting, it doesn't matter where it's registered, you must comply with the laws where you are. A trailer tag is cheap and permanent. That said, you're not likely to get nicked for it.
  14. Use the red plastic tube nozzle extension doodad. With a little practice, the red tube itself will catch fire so you don't have to hold your other hand out there to light it off. Anything flammable works... brake cleaner, hairspray, contact cleaner, ...
  15. I've noticed the reply editor has stopped automatically recognizing web links and making them click-able. It used to do that. I don't know what's changed. Anyone else have this? Whether I type in www.google.com or paste in https://www.google.com/ either way, it doesn't work. Ok. it's trying to make a liar out of me... the paste thing worked that time.
  16. There's an app for that.... I can't remember the actual name, but search the marketplace for "CCW" or something like that. Otherwise, www.handgunlaw.us
  17. My brother-in-law was an EMT for several years. The stress of the job, working odd hours, and one particular call involving a child that didn't make it pushed him to seek other employment. I also have an acquaintance that's an EMT in Knoxville. I'm sure he'd be willing to give you the scoop, if you're interested.
  18. Last fall I was going out to work in the yard. I leave my cruddy shoes in the garage. After sticking my foot in a shoe that had a huge cockroach in it several years ago, I've learned to bang my shoes on the ground to make sure nothing's in them before I put them on. When I did it this time, a huge black widow tumbled out. In the time it took for me to swat her with the shoe, I noticed dozens of tiny baby black widows scurrying for cover. It instantly became the 'whack-a-mole' game as I pounded away furiously. I think I got them all. I didn't tell my wife, lest she refused to set foot in the garage again. WD-40 or carb cleaner and a cigarette lighter works pretty good.
  19. Looks like fun!
  20. Been to the zoo lately? We were there yesterday, didn't see any gravel lots.
  21. This is how I've done it in the past, though it's generally been big holes not lots of small ones.
  22. Look in the briars under high tension power lines. There are some that grow around where I work. They get picked over pretty fast, both by people and critters.
  23. They're just less intrusive intrusions.
  24. I think speed will always be king. The limiting factor these days is the pilot. I'm fascinated by the design of the SR-71, mostly because of the time in which it was done. They didn't have all the fancy tools we have today. That's probably why it so cool looking. The Valkyrie you mentioned is likely the XB-70, also a really cool plane. There's one on display at the USAF museum in Dayton OH. I highly recommend a visiting, it's fascinating.
  25. I see little more than laziness and bullying something that can't fight back. Disgusting.
