  1. There's an app for that... http://www.motherearthnews.com/mother-earth-news-apps.aspx http://www.motherear...zecz11zsmi.aspx We don't can, though I have a bit of interest in learning how. I helped my parents can stuff when I was a kid and have bad memories of miserably hot, sweaty work. We canned tons of green tomato pickles, which I don't really like anyway. Now I mostly freeze stuff, though canning is a better long term option.

  3. I agree. And that's why I pick blueberries instead...
  4. mmmm.... shepherd's pie. Come to think of it, we may have one buried somewhere in the bottom of the freezer.
  5. Thick and starchy, again with lots of ice cream.
  6. This thread is full of win!
  7. Mine too (though she's not a yankee). She'll ask if I want a piece of pe-cahn pie. I say "What? Oh, you mean pee-can pie. Sure! With ice cream, lots of ice cream." Though truth be told, peach cobbler is better. Oh, and to Dolomite's post above.... nail, meet head.
  8. Welcome!
  9. So the bolt isn't holding the case rim tight enough against the breech face for it to seal? Is there an obvious gas escape (other than the noise)? That may be normal for a .22, it just seems a little odd. How much does the size of the brass vary?
  10. As Lester points out... I'd surmise than anything earlier than about 1800 is very unreliable. It certainly seems to neglect a number of significant global civilizations. My take on the chart is that the US economy has grown at a much higher rate than the others. I wonder if that's really GDP per capita instead of gross numbers. I'd expect to see a dip in the last decade or so, but not starting in 1950.
  11. Ah yes, the good old vinegar and baking soda volcano. I'll have to remember that next time I'm hanging out with a few particular friends... Cool, thanks for the pic. Is there any sort of fire grate in the bottom, or does the wood just sit on the ground? I assume you have to start the fire and let it burn down to coals before you start cooking? Then feed in wood as needed to keep it going. How do you keep it from flaring up when you add wood?
  12. Keep in mind that it may be against the law to bring firewood from your home to your campsite. http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/firewood-alert.htm http://www.tn.gov/agriculture/regulatory/tcd.shtml http://www.tn.gov/agriculture/publications/regulatory/tcd_map.pdf That said, hiking, fishing (license req'd), swimming, hot dogs over the fire, smores, books, ...
  13. I'd like to build this... http://www.motherear...And-Smoker.aspx
  14. I discovered it when I tried some old fashioned bulls-eye shooting.... one handed, arm straight out sideways. My groups were noticeably smaller than with both hands.
  15. yep. A little motion blur might look cool... seeing the path of the ball through the air. Actually, probably not. The sports mode will choose the fastest practical shutter speed... 1/1500 or faster bright sunlight. If you right-click on the photo and hit properties, it should tell you the aperature, f-stop, and shutter speed for each photo. If you hold the shutter button down, it'll go into burst mode and you'll get 3 pics/second. Tell me about it.... What mcurrier said. Zoom lenses are light hogs and you get what you pay for. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/35mm-Lenses/ci/3018/N/4294247086 http://www.keh.com/Camera/format-Digital/system-Canon-Digital/category-Zoom-Lenses?s=1&bcode=DC&ccode=7&cc=80296&r=WG&f
  16. There's tons of choices. Your best bet is to find a range near you with rentals and try a bunch to see what suits you best.
  17. I have a periodic problem shooting low left. I've traced it to squeezing too much with my support hand. Both squeezing it during trigger press, and just plain holding on too tight. When my hits start moving low left, I have to force myself to relax my support hand and the hits come back on target.
  18. Cool. How is the inside set up?
  19. Use a bullet puller, aka pliers, to remove the bullet. Pour the powder in a yellow jacket nest. Drop a match in the hole. Save the case for dry fire practice.
  20. Neat. It'd be cool if the draw one worked with the computer microphone and would pick up on the "click" to give you a time.
  21. Vinegar BBQ.... google low-country bbq. That's classic coastal carolina bbq. Like mustard bbq's, it can be an acquired taste, but its very good when done right. I've had good and bad low country bbq, but I've never tried to do it myself. I prefer rubs or tomato based sauces (sacrilege for a carolina boy, but such is life...). Cheesecloth! That's genius! I'll definitely try that next time I run the smoker. I did 2 pork loins, 2 whole chickens, and a stuffed bologna last weekend. My set-up is very basic compared to most, but I've been quite happy with the results. And yes, now I'm hungry too.
  22. Depends on your definition of "plane". The line gets blurry depending on altitude, propulsion method, and self-sufficiency. The X-15 exceeded 4000 mph, but is it really a "plane"?
  23. Wow. I too have dealt with unpleasant neighbors, but this is miles past that. Kudos to the OP for pursuing this in such a level-headed fashion and attempting to force our legal system to work properly. It seems that's rather a PITA. I'm impressed with you, particularly for butting heads with a judge and winning. Do you have any background in law? I'm just curious because I'd be waaay over my head with what you're in the middle of. edited to state that it was in fact the OP who butted heads with the judge and won. Though it appears the arrogant prick wouldn't stand for being told he was wrong in his courtroom. But when challenged after the fact and in private, the judge admitted he was wrong and corrected the problem. Again, not many people would butt heads with a judge and even fewer know the law well enough to be confident enough to do so.
  24. .38 Super. There's just something cool about a 1911 in .38 Super. Maybe because it's old fashioned.
