Sounds like a good group. Dad and his buddies did a similar thing for a long time... $5 low-ball or points with $1 birdies. I'd play with them occasionally when I was in town. It was fun and enough $ to keep you interested but no so much that anyone took it too seriously.

Yep. There's video of me swinging a club at about age 5. I played competitively in high school, though I wasn't really a stand out. Most of my golfing now is in the company league (9 holes every other week), with a rare round with family on the weekends. I enjoy it, but with 2 little ones its very hard to find the time/money to play as much as I'd like.

That happened to my Dad while deep sea fishing many years ago. They were catching tuna and he had one on. About the time it got close enough to the surface to see, he said there was a flash of blue/white, he nearly got jerked overboard, and the reel was spinning faster than he'd ever seen. I have a Smith's system and it seems to work reasonably well. While I appreciate sharp knives, I'm very much an amateur sharpener. I'm sure I could get better with practice, but time is generally in short supply.

You need to decide what level of accuracy you're willing to accept. If you want/need true 1 MOA accuracy, then the AR-10 or M1A are the only options I can think of. If 2-3 MOA accuracy is acceptable, that opens up the selections... CETME, FN FAL, .308 Saiga, ... Be wary of using .308 WIN ammo in a gun stamped 7.62 NATO and vice versa. The two cartridges are slightly different.
