  1. There's no such thing as too much power, only not enough traction. But seriously, it's all in the connection between your brain and right hand. I've seen people start out on 1000cc sport bikes and do just fine. I've seen people pile in on a 125 during the MSF course. It takes all kinds. My XT gets 75-80 mpg. It uses the same amount of gas in a week as my SUV does in a day. I have a hitch hauler and it's handy. Though if Tellico is your destination and that CRF is what you want, just ride it there. And yeah, splashing in the puddles is the fun part....
  2. Where are the mountain bike trails?
  3. That end of Foothills Parkway is closed too. https://www.wbir.com/article/news/great-smoky-mountains-national-park-tn/foothills-parkway-repaving-road-closures/51-9fb0696e-8eb3-4fd8-950d-02ce27cc066e
  4. Can't have mine ....
  5. You'uns or y'uns is even deeper south. My family in SC says that.
  6. You're a big tipper. Last I heard the quote was about $500k to remove hundreds of trees. Parsons isn't going to reopen anytime soon and wasn't worth Cades Cove traffic anyway, though passing a stuck Jeep in my minivan was fun. There's lots of better gravel roads around.
  7. Funny how chicken and waffles is delightful while tuna a waffles isn't.
  8. Balance is important in all aspects of life.
  9. And Washington, Maine, Texas, Colorado, Oregon, ... those are the plates I can recall seeing in my subdivision lately. Maybe to you west tennessee folk.... We know the difference here in God's time zone.
  10. Doesn't apply to LEO's, they're wearing wearing a uniform and are at work. It's generally accepted that they'll be armed. I agree that people are overly sensitive to open carry, among a long list of other things. Unfortunately, most of the open carry I see is either some half wit wearing a crap holster or a voldemort wannabe. I see no tactical advantage in open carry and I do my best to avoid attention, so I don't do it.
  11. What they said..... Cades Cove is all about timing and there's tons of interesting stuff not visible from the road. Rich Mtn Rd is a good way out when the nitwits jam up the road. Tuckaleechee caverns is neat. Fontana dam is neat, as is Calderwood and Cheoah (Fugitve) dam. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheoah_Dam Watch for nitwits on horses in the Citico Creek area. Fantastic views from Shuckstack fire tower, Hooper Bald, and Whig Meadow. Smokin Joe's BBQ, the Steak and Trout place, and Burger Master are really good. Tellico Grains or Tellico Beach drive in, if you get over there.
  12. Could be an armory mark indicating which rack it should be stored in.
  13. Search through the list and get only what you need. The regulations are complicated and they make it difficult to figure that out. Lots of people spend the extra money to get the Sportsmans license as it's mostly a catch-all. I think that's intentional for revenue reasons.
  14. I would qualify the ethanol is ok statement with it depends on the design. Ethanol is bad for older seals and materials that were never intended for use with it. Most newer bikes were designed with E10 gas in mind so it's not as bad. And designed, not manufactured, is the key. They still build stuff that was designed 20+ years ago. My bike is an '07 but was designed in the 80's.
  15. 100% gas only in anything with a carb, especially if it doesn't get used regularly. I've learned that the hard way a couple times. Does it have a fuel filter? Backfiring and flakey idle sounds like a vacuum leak.
  16. This site has a reasonably concise explanation.... https://handgunlaw.us/
  17. Yep... feet, ankles, and knees become very reluctant to move. Makes stopping for a traffic light exciting. I also learned the trick of putting my gloved hand on the side of the engine to warm them up while riding. The left hand is pretty easy, the right hand takes some coordination. At my old job, there was a bread truck that went the same way I did in the mornings. When it was cold, I'd tuck in behind him to stay out of the wind most of the way. If you go the route of heated gear, get a vest. If your hands or feet get cold, crank up the vest and your body will naturally warm your extremities.
  18. We had several volunteer tomatos show up in the flower beds last year. I assume they were courtesy of the birds. I just let them be and had a few extra tomatoes. I also use my aquarium water on the garden and house plants.

    Mostly a rant

A friend had the same thing happen with his Audi. So he FaceTime'd with the engineers in Germany to show them he wasn't wrong. They spent 3 months working on it and eventually just replaced the entire electrical system.
  20. You guys are way ahead of me. My plan for this year is to wait until later than usual to start the garden. My idea is to try to avoid the rot problems I've had over the last few very wet Springs.
  21. That means its the John Wayne version.
  22. The dozer got stuck so he off'd himself. We welded himself inside it, so it took several days to get him out.
  23. Mine said banned, that got my attention for sure. Glad I'm not the one who made the booboo.
  24. I don't miss that... It took 4hrs to check the valves on my CBR and 2 days if they needed to be adjusted. It takes me about 30 minutes to adjust the valves on my XT.

I also don't like obscuring the target with the sights. Pumpkin on a fence post is how my rifles are sighted. I typically shoot handguns as center hold as shown above, maybe that's why my usual miss is low? I always thought I was anticipating recoil.
