I keep mine closed simply to keep dust/dirt out of the action. And also so my fingers don't get mashed should I grab one in the wrong place or bump it and have it slam shut. I doubt it has any significant effect on the springs. As stated above, it's cyclic fatigue that degrades a spring, not static load.

Agreed. Regarding the big bang, I found this to be exactly what it's intended to be, a very interesting thought experiment. http://nowscape.com/godsdebris.pdf I also heard something very interesting on (of all places) the Free Beer & Hot Wings radio show yesterday morning. They were discussing Bill Nye's recent statements about creationism. A caller made a comment to the effect of the following (I don't remember the exact words), which I found quite intriguing.... He said there is no concrete time scale at the beginning of the Bible. Earth may have been created in 7 days, but how long was a day? We don't really know. After that, how long did Adam spend in the Garden of Eden before God created Eve? How long did the two of them live before they bit the apple and were cast out into the world? Could've been days, could've been billions of years....

Exactly. Why is that so hard for people to understand? -
His music isn't exactly my style, but he's a fantastic performer.

If a kid without a disability was named Hunter, would they make him change his name? I doubt it. Sounds like discrimination to me. While "zero tolerance" may be (a really stupid) school policy, discrimination is against federal law. I'm sure this school will be hearing from a disability law attorney. edit... looks like they already have. http://www.1011now.com/home/headlines/School-District-Says-Deaf-Student-Not-Required-to-Change-Name-167784235.html

This. Don't burn any bridges but neither expect nor give any undue loyalty. Heard the saying "there's no honor among thieves?" Experience has taught me it applies directly to the vast majority of the corporate world.

We had a contract guy here do exactly that. He got an offer for a permanent position elsewhere about 3 weeks into his stint here. He was gone the next day. We were bummed as he seemed quite knowledgeable, but nothing else we could do.

If job #2 is a contract job, you should be able to bail with no obligations should company #1 offer you a permanent position. Look into the contract requirements to verify that. The job offer from company #1 could also be a little leverage with company #2.

Skeet shooting with wife Need advise
peejman replied to Mykltn's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
heh... has nothing to do with you being a bad teacher. Has everything to do with the fact that she's your wife and hence is hardwired to not listen to you. Getting someone else to teach her is an excellent suggestion. -
Several recent threads on this... do a search. My best advice is to print both the airline's and TSA's policies and have them with you. Seems it's not uncommon to encounter employees of both that don't know their own policies.

+1 on the leveling. Our house had laminate through most of the house when we bought it. The floors aren't level at all and the laminate squeaks/creaks all over the place. On the other hand, durability has been excellent. 2 kids and the dog haven't done much to it in 4 years. I highly recommend you get the type that leaves a completely flat surface. The type with little grooves between boards is terrible IMO. That groove just collects dirt and is very difficult to clean. If you have a dog, the dog's claws will grip the grooves and tear them up in no time. My old house and several friends houses have the grooved type. Same results for all of them.

Skeet shooting with wife Need advise

What they said. Youth sized 20ga with a recoil pad. Target loads with a 12ga really aren't that bad from a full sized gun, but if she's the slightest bit recoil sensitive, start with the 20ga. -

Yes, it's really that easy. A crayon works fine and isn't permanent. You can upgrade to paint pens, model paint (testors, etc.), or nail polish if you want something more permanent. http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/xd-gunsmithing-maintenance/33888-coloring-your-engravings-write-up.html http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=238422

I'm a deer hunting noob as well, but I work with lots of avid hunters. The vast majority of them have never shot at a deer more than 100 yds away in TN (the guys that go to Ohio excepted). Between the hills and trees, most shots are within 50 yds.

Bristol Tenn. and Bristol Va. getting Bass Pro and Cabela's

I just hope this doesn't mean I'll have to pay sales tax if I order online.... -
With good ammo, it'll work fine. I highly recommend this guy's trigger work. The difference is astounding. http://www.kivaari.com/SKS%20Target%20Match.htm I also got tech sights peep sights for mine.... http://www.tech-sights.com/sks.htm The sights and trigger mod cut my group sizes in half, from 4-6" down to 2-3".

Take your CZ to a range that has an M&P rental and compare them. If you shoot the CZ better, so what if it's devalued by modifying or removing the decocker? If you shoot the M&P better, get one. If plinking with the AR is important to you, get a .22 conversion or dedicated upper for it. I love my SKS, but surplus ammo isn't what I'd consider "cheap" anymore. If you really want cheap ammo, get an AK-74.

Come to think of it, you might look at the Nissan Versa hatchback. The back seat is positively enormous! A 6'3" friend fit in the back seat with leg room to spare. Like the others... not real flashy but good basic transportation. I had one as a rental for a week in FL, no complaints. When had our 2nd, we bought a mini-van. Wifey was not happy about the idea at first, but she loves it now. It's huge and its so much easier to get the kids (4 & 2) in/out than a car.

Bristol Tenn. and Bristol Va. getting Bass Pro and Cabela's
peejman replied to waynesan's topic in General Chat
I used to visit a Cabela's in Michigan when I was there on business. It makes BassPro look like a Dollar General. -
It'll be snug, but ok for infrequent use. Take both kids and their car seats with you to the dealer. Test fit everything to make sure you're happy with it. The 4 yr old will likely need to be behind your wife so he'll have some leg room. The baby carrier may not allow you to put the driver's seat all the way back. The biggest pain will be getting the kiddies in/out. Otherwise, they're good cars. Keep up with the maintenance and they'll last a long time.

Man arrested for legally open carrying...

Proof that LEO's don't always know the law. And proof that arguing with them about it rarely goes well. -
There's lots of stuff in Cookeville. Charlie's Sub Shop, Mama Rosa's, and Big O's donuts were favorites during my time there.
