  1. I worry about it more from the perspective of rust. I don't want my fingerprint to rust someone's gun. Crime? nah.
  2. Where is this? Looks like a fun place to play.
  3. Maybe you misunderstood... I was merely amused by the acronym, BJJ. Forgive my adolescent humor. That said the "discipline A is better than discipline B" debate is roughly equivalent to the glock vs. 1911 debate... pointless at best. I have a bit of interest in martial arts. I suspect my older boy might benefit from it in a year or two, and I know I could use the exercise/stress outlet.
  4. You can likely build something a little more traditional for a similar amount of money... http://www.motherearthnews.com/do-it-yourself/how-to-build-an-a-frame-ze0z1111zhir.aspx http://www.motherearthnews.com/city-to-country-one-step-at-a-time/how-to-renovate-a-heritage-log-cabin-interior--diy-style.aspx
  5. I have nothing to add other than pointing out that the above is hilarious...
  6. I've seen the Changing of the Guard ceremony, though it was many years ago. Sobering even to a bratty teenager. The seriousness with which they go about their duty is palpable.
  7. When you say "standard deviation" are you referring to velocity, group sizes, or both?
  8. Good stuff. While I don't mind eating the flesh (fresh, not that nasty shredded packaged crap), coconut drinks are . Dood... that's avatar material there!
  9. I'm a very poor guitar player, a mediocre golfer, an avid motorcyclist and hiker (with little time to pursue either). I spend most of my time with these guys...
  10. Ditto. And the same should apply to our legislators. If they don't know what's in a bill, how can they decide how their constituents' want them to vote? The wife and I voted yesterday.
  11. Depends on the gun. My DAO P3AT doesn't have a safety other than the long trigger pull and I'm fine with that. My striker fired PT145 has a manual safety and I carry it on safe. As you pointed out, seems more people shoot themselves re-holstering than any other way (other than cleaning).
  12. Depends largely on your intended purpose. Nightstand gun, tactical carbine class, or fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan? Some might feel only the best will do regardless, but you have to decide for yourself what's "good enough" and balance that against your budget. If it was my nightstand gun... I need a handful of reviews showing some comparable use/abuse and 100 or so rounds downrange myself to be confident it works adequately.
  13. Just a little too late.
  14. Right. I forgot they changed that a number of years ago. They have maintained their government-like efficiency.
  15. Wow. What a hassle. It's no wonder the post office is a drain on our tax dollars.
  16. Hydraulic cement is cement that's specifically formulated to expand when it dries and fully cure even when the area stays wet. Standard cement typically shrinks a little as it cures. That said, you fix basement/foundation leaks from the outside, not inside. Yes, that typically means digging a really big hole. If you seal the inside, you may stop the leak at that point but the water is already through the wall. Where's it gonna go next? Got pics of the basement walls? The terracotta pipe thing sounds really interesting.
  17. Talk to the local sheriff's dept. Make the aware of your intentions. If you happen to be hunting during school hours, I can imagine things going sideways real fast if someone at the school hears gun fire.
  18. With that many mice, it might be worth a call to TWRA. They may be able to help you figure out why there's so many. There's got to be a food source somewhere to sustain them. And clearly there's a lack of predators. We had a great big rat take up residence under our screen porch about a month ago. I couldn't figure out why the dog kept digging in various places. Then my wife saw it eating from our bird feeders. I put out a few traps and some bait, no more rat.
  19. Wow. Do you know the alloy? Ti isn't cheap by any stretch. I work with it all the time (aircraft parts) and yes, its tough stuff.
20. Good to know. I've been pondering their data sharing options but am suspicious of how they track it. Seems they don't know how they track it either.
  21. Also in USAToday... http://www.usatoday.com/videos/news/nation/2012/10/24/1654249/
  22. Welcome! To my knowledge, you can do reloads and failure drills at Gunny's. You cannot draw from a holster. If there's an outdoor range in Louisville, I've never heard of it (but would like to!). While there is lots of open space in Blount County, finding space to shoot is all in who you know. If you find a willing property owner, you'll get at least a dozen new best friends.
  23. Exactly. They've got the best coverage in this area, but otherwise... meh. Truth. Charter will not get any more of my money. I'm thinking hard about doing the same with Verizon, but I'm not real keen on the alternatives.
  24. As long as the house has conditioned air, I wouldn't worry too much about rust in a year. Clean them, lube them, wipe them down with a silicone gun cloth and they'll be fine. Maybe add a few packs of desiccant. What you want to avoid is storing them in a way that might trap moisture... like a gun case with foam. I keep mine in a cheap Stack-On cabinet and have no issues with rust. It's not exactly a theft deterrent, but my kids can't get at them, which is the important thing.
