1.
Hey all, I swiped the "Flatwoods Beast" from Dan to bring into work. i was telling them about it and they just had to see it. Now if i had a printer like in the movie Office Space, I would use the Flatwoods Beast instead of a baseball bat,. Oh well...
Damn it feels good to be a gangsta! Love that movie.
2. Knives from old files was a total "duh-huh" moment for me. Titanium is tough stuff and can be very sensitive to high speed tools. We do lots of hand work on titanium, hence we wear out lots of files. So I wandered over and asked the guys what they do with worn out files... "we toss 'em in that drawer over there." BAM! I'll work out some way to get them to Spots.
3. That's not good. A friend of mine lives near there as well... on the east end of Cloud Creek Rd. Is it near there?
4. Ah. Knives from worn out files. I may have a source for a few of those.
5. Welcome!
6. Welcome!
7. Cool. I need a kitchen pass. What's the story on the pattern in the bowie?
8.
I would go center mass. It would be cool if someone on this post could do a little experiment on ballistics and winter clothing. I would love to know how many layers of winter clothing it takes to stop a handgun round. There must be some research already available on the net.
Lots and lots. http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot8.htm Some newer rounds are better designed to expand after passing through various things (clothes, glass, drywall, etc.).

Holidays

The commercialism is very much a bummer. Hearing Christmas music in stores after Halloween is a bit much. The traffic, crowded stores, and general hustle & bustle really sucks. Before I had kids, I had begun to hate the whole holiday season. Now that I have little ones, my joy has been given a good swift kick back toward enjoying it. They get so excited it's hard and it's fun to watch. Just remember.... that $15.99 shipping charge that you'd think was outrageous any other time of year... it's worth it in December.
11. Sweet! I really want one.
12. Looks good! Give that paint at least a week to harden fully before doing much with it.
13. Interesting. Two guys well over $300k and a handful of others in the $150k-$180k range. They do maintain offices in some high rent areas (NYC, DC, Chicago, ...) that may justify some of the salaries. The executive listing covers about $2M of the $4.7M they claim as admin costs. The pie graph seems to make it pretty clear that while some salaries may be higher than we think they should be, the bulk is going where it should. In a quick scan of their financials, nothing really jumps out at me as being way out of line. It's hard to find people with the skills to run a business that size who will work for peanuts.
14.
Is that why he labels himself "Arrogant Bastard" under his Logo/Avatar? Actually I just posted a bunch of super close up detailed pic of the Locking Shoulder situation and he seemed to make some spot-on observations.
Yes, very much so. He's an ass, but he's the best.
15. How long do $100 boots last for you and what wears out first? If you wear the soles out but the upper is still in decent shape, the Redwings can be resoled and will last a long time. If you kill the uppers, they'll still last longer than cheap boots. You also have to consider the weight and comfort. If you wear them all day, every day, that makes a big difference long term.
16.
May I suggest reporting the stray to the dog catcher, repeatedly. They will then get the dog, and fine the neighbor. Report it as aggressive. Different situation, but yes, there is responsibility of the owner to keep the dog leeshed or behind a fence. Again, your situation is different, your dog is a large, aggressive dog, this was a puppy, not likely to bite, or be a threat (I guess the guy could have tripped over it?) It seems, seems, like the shooter was angry the neighbor ignored him...
In response to 101... this. If you live in the county where there isn't a specific animal control division, call the sheriff's dept.
17. There's been bounties on coyotes in various places in VA for several years.
18.
Interesting. I donate to WWP through my company's charitable giving program. I'm going to do some research into this and, if confirmed, I'm switching my money elsewhere.
Please share your findings.
19.
I didn't see any dirt or fouling in the barrel but when I used a qtip in the bore the cosmoline was a little black so sometime in its past it was fired
Meh, I wouldn't sweat it. Run a few patches down the bore if you're so inclined. I take care of my stuff, but I'm not OCD about cleaning every little spec of dirt. It's a milsurp, it likely saw a lot worse long before you got it and survived. What is it anyway?
20.
but is just the lube/cleaner and patches enough after the cosmoline is fully remove or do I need a bore brush and more ?
Oh. Removing the cosmoline won't remove copper/lead fouling in the barrel. I'd scrub it with brushes only if there's considerable fouling. Otherwise the usual patches of solvent & oil are fine. Shoot it and see what you get. Some guns shoot better clean, most shoot better a little dirty.
21.
After I get all the cosmoline out can I just use some cleaner/lube and some patches to clean and lube it or do I need more than that?
Generally yes, but it depends on what you're shooting. If it's something like a mosin or mauser with corrosive ammo, the trick is to use windex immediately after shooting. The ammonia in the windex neutralizes the corrosive salts in the ammo. Once you've done that, then "normal" cleaning is all that's necessary.
22. Wow. I'll mark him off my list. The Falfiles group won't steer you wrong. If the l/s hole is as oversize as it looks, that's a tough one to fix. I have a "box-o-FAL" that I've yet to get around to putting together. I intend to do it myself, made my own receiver wrench and such.
23. I seem to recall a couple of the bigger schools out west doing something similar with paint balls. I know from experience that paint balls hurt like h_ll up close. Based on the web site, looks like most of what they do is airsoft. Simunition requires a conversion kit for semi-auto's to operate properly. I wouldn't think this place keeps kits for such a wide variety of guns on hand.
24.
Isn't that the point of much of this horse s**t anyway? Isn't it so "unfair" for the U.S. to have so much while much of the rest of the world has so little (even though they have so little because of their own actions)???
Exactly. Just wait until the Chinese start sharing their pollution.
I invented pants. But seriously, even "green" technology is based on the use of fossil fuels. Take, for example, an electric car. Where does the electricity come from? In many areas it comes from plants that burn fossil fuels. "Green" technology is not "green", unless green represents money.
FTW! Saving the world will never be popular until it's profitable. Such is the world we live in.
