I've shot exactly one of each and found the LCR much better. The LCR was much more comfortable to shoot and consequently I was much more accurate with it. The air-weight rubbed a blister in the web between my thumb and index finger after about 15 rds. I may have gotten a poor version of an air-weight, the trigger was beyond terrible. The long pull was expected, the 12-15lb pull weight wasn't. The LCR trigger was much lighter, smoother, and more intuitive.

Sand will work, you've just got to be careful. What kind of finish is it? There's lots of different kinds of media, (various grits of AlOx, glass beads in various sizes, plastic media, walnut shells, etc.) If you've got no experience, you'd be well served to get a few pieces of similar metal to practice with before starting on the real thing.

Wolf ammo is typically quite dirty with inconsistent velocity. You won't see optimal accuracy with it. Fine for plinking and blowing up melons.

I suppose I'm weird, but I don't carry around the house. So no issue with play time. I have a simple key-locked cabinet where my rifles stay (unloaded with trigger locks installed). On top of that I have an electronic pistol safe where the keys to the rifle cabinet stay along with the loaded pistols. The home defense gun moves from the safe to the drawer in the bedside table when I go to bed, and moves back to the safe when I get up. When we're out, I pocket carry most of the time. I have 2 little ones (4 & 2) and I've found my left arm gets really tired holding the little one when I've got my gun IWB on my right hip. Printing (or exposing completely) while frequently bending over is another issue. Pocket carry solves both of those problems. Granted, the .380 isn't as much firepower as the .45, but it's better than nothing and a lot more convienent. A purist might call me lazy, but it works for me and I'm good with that. Once the kiddies get bigger, I'm sure I'll belt carry more.

Knives from old files was a total "duh-huh" moment for me. Titanium is tough stuff and can be very sensitive to high speed tools. We do lots of hand work on titanium, hence we wear out lots of files. So I wandered over and asked the guys what they do with worn out files... "we toss 'em in that drawer over there." BAM! The commercialism is very much a bummer. Hearing Christmas music in stores after Halloween is a bit much. The traffic, crowded stores, and general hustle & bustle really sucks. Before I had kids, I had begun to hate the whole holiday season. Now that I have little ones, my joy has been given a good swift kick back toward enjoying it. They get so excited it's hard and it's fun to watch. Just remember.... that $15.99 shipping charge that you'd think was outrageous any other time of year... it's worth it in December.
