Turbine engine repair. http://www.standardaero.com/

Flares are one thing, pungi sticks are something else. Intent to injure is the issue.

Based on experience. I'll be honest and say we tend to hire on the low end and have gotten what we've paid for more than once recently. However, in this case I'd expect (hope) that we'd be a little more willing to pay for someone with skills. The learning curve can be expensive in this business. That was a really vague answer... Honestly, I'm not sure where this one falls in the pay scale. Somewhere between $12 - $20 per hour (plus OT) is my guess. And I'll add that experience with and/or certification for magnesium would be viewed very highly.

If it's a minor spring replacement, why not DIY? Otherwise, Predator Custom.

I like this idea but it might result in some retaliation. Why escalate the issue? The "smile for the camera" sign is a good idea. Keep in mind that booby traps are illegal.

Bump. Position open again, unfortunately.

Interesting analysis of how it went down. It clearly wasn't a over-night job. http://news.yahoo.com/insight-republicans-engineered-blow-michigans-powerful-unions-061930181--business.html;_ylt=AvQ39Cd0jeJOXuo80I6M.wYJVux_;_ylu=X3oDMTIydWk2MTRkBG1pdANBVFQgSG9tZSBXaWRnZXRyb24gVGVzdCAxBHBvcwMzOQRzZWMDTWVkaWFBdHRXaWRnZXRyb25Bc3NlbWJseQ--;_ylg=X3oDMTFpNzk0NjhtBGludGwDdXMEbGFuZwNlbi11cwRwc3RhaWQDBHBzdGNhdANob21lBHB0A3NlY3Rpb25z;_ylv=3

carry on property owned by a university
peejman replied to me04070's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
As far as I'm aware, "intent to go armed" is very vague on purpose. Gives the lawyers something to argue about. The interpretations seems to vary from "intent to do someone harm with a weapon" to simply having one accessible. But I agree with the above... any property owned or used by an educational institution is a no-go. Unless your simply picking up or dropping off a student. -
Its the time of year when we all start to think about New Year's resolutions. Losing weight is always a very popular thing. Everywhere you read about starting an exercise program always contains some statement to the effect of "consult your doctor prior to starting any exercise program." Most people (me included) tend to gloss over that statement. Folks, please don't ignore that advice. I lost a friend on friday because of it. My friend Dwayne, who's always been a big boy, had really gotten big over the last year. The scale recently tipped past 300 lbs and he decided that was enough and it was time to lose some weight. Apparently his ticker wasn't up to the task. He suffered a massive heart attack while exercising with his family. He was exactly 2 weeks older than me (37). Nobody likes going to the doctor. Which is your preferred source of info, your family doc or the coroner? http://www.croleyfh.com/cgi-bin/CompanyInternal?stdout+115+croleyfh.com+2234+4+9103:Lcgi_html/ On a related note.... make sure you've got a decent life insurance policy. You never know when you'll need it. /end of PSA. :)

Cool idea for a bullet magnet. I guess they like being shot at... Very true. Regardless of what we like to think about the power of technology, wars are always won by simple attrition.

Magnets won't stick to some stainless steels or titanium. But I'd bet you've got aluminum. I assume it's a rail section screwed to the receiver? Also assuming it's been hard anodized, it'll take a lot of use to wear it out. I can't imagine the rail itself would flex enough to cause problems. It would be best to mount the rings as close as possible to the screws holding the rail onto the receiver.

I was thinking of bubba'd trigger job or a factory trigger with highly negative engagement. A sticky firing pin can cause the same thing and is easy to check.

Heller expanded: right to carry outside the home
peejman replied to Stegall Law Firm's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Yes, a summary in English (rather than legalese) would be most appreciated. -
The only thing I can think of specific to the SKS is the potential to slam fire. Cock the rifle and bang the butt on the ground hard several times. Verify that the hammer won't fall. Thats fixed relatively easily, but obviously not a safe condition.

What they said. If you go to the post office or UPS, have a copy of their regulations in hand for when they want to argue with you about it.
I suspected that the hot mist ones may do a bit better in this regard, but they are also quite a bit noisier.
Agreed.
Interesting. I'll look into this. How could it be expected to affect your heating bill?
Nil. Just like a car, the fan doesn't pull much power once it's running. The big current draw is during start-up. Combine the 24/7 fan with a programmable thermostat and I'll bet your energy costs go down, if anything.

Welcome!

It's the difference between cool mist and hot mist. The hot mist rises and evaporates. The cool mist sinks and condensates on surfaces. My older boy cranked his all the way up and left it for quite a while because "he liked the smoke". I walked by his room and couldn't see the far wall for the fog. It took me a second to two to figure out what it was. It dissipated pretty quickly, but I do remember everything having a sheen of condensation on it. It dried pretty quickly. One thing you can try is to set the fan (air handler) in your main HVAC unit to "on" rather than "auto". This will keep the air moving in the house so your heat shouldn't cycle quite as frequently and won't dry the air out so much.

We have several. The large capacity one is a Honeywell Quick Steam. While it does a pretty good job and will put out about 10 gal per day if it runs all the time, its not perfect. I put it in the jacuzzi tub in our bathroom for a couple reasons. It's noisy. Its not the quiet hum of an ultrasonic unit. Filling it with water is a messy process. The design kinda sucks and it's nearly impossible to not drip water everywhere. It's got a built-in humidistat so it keeps the humidity reasonable in the house. It's been trouble free for about 8 years. I have two smaller ultrasonic units that stay in my kids rooms. They're made by Crane... one's a cow and the other is Pooh. They're much quieter, but much lower output. Also somewhat messy to refill, but not as bad as the big one. Both of these sit a couple feet off the floor, mostly to stay out of little hands' reach. The mist does sink to the floor, but I've never noticed significant surface wetting. All of these require regular cleaning. The ultrasonic ones get funk growing in them within a week or two. The Honeywell gets crudded up with mineral deposits that have to be chipped/scraped/sanded out a couple times per season. You can also get a "whole house" humidifier that's built in (or added on) to your HVAC unit. Much more expensive, but nice.

What Dolomite said. You're way more patient than me. If the dogs come back, get video.
Suggest to the owners putting in an underground fence. For a few hundred bucks it will save their dogs' lives. I'd be real hesitant to shoot my neighbor's dogs without making it clear that the onus is on them to prevent their dogs from killing your livestock. Underground fences work very well, and after a few weeks they won't even have to wear the collar anymore.
Works on some dogs, but not all. I have one and it works great on my dog. Our neighbors tried it with their dog and the dog just ran through it, so they built a real fence.

For a budget 7.62x39 plinker, SKS all the way. It's easy to shoot, little recoil, and fairly accurate. The triggers can be kinda crappy (depending on variant), but there's a cheap fix for that. Russian's are the best variant, but you pay for that. Love my yugo, it's fun to shoot. I'd buy another one if I ran across a deal. Be wary of an SKS that's been "tacti-cooled". High capacity detachable mags can be flaky... some work, some don't.

Sharpening and Protecting Suggestions
peejman replied to GlockSpock's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I have a Smith's system which works reasonably well. I don't use it often enough to be what I'd consider good at it. Wish I was. The Lansky and Spyderco systems work well too. Dad can put a razor edge on a pocket knife with just a whetstone. Apparently I didn't inherit that skill. Most all of mine are some grade of stainless so I don't use any particular oil. We used to have a few carbon steel kitchen knifes, but they got used so often corrosion was never a problem. -
If it contains the word "cookie", there's a good chance I like it. I love peanut butter cookies.
Ditto.
That's not TN law. It is federal law. TN law allows those 18-20 to purchase privately. Federal law prevents them from purchasing a handgun from a FFL.
My mistake. It's silly that there's two different ages. You can join the Marines at 18 but can't buy beer or a handgun from a dealer? That's just dumb.
As strange as it is they only have to be over the age of 18. I have known a few police officers and sheriff deputies under 21 that have had others buy their ammo though.
Correct. 21 to buy one from an FFL, 18 to own one. TN laws are so stupid...
