  1. Vinegar is fairly acidic and can be used to clean all manner of things.  It's a common old fashioned cleaner.
  2. How heavy is the safe?  200lbs or 800lbs?   I wouldn't sit the safe directly on the concrete, you'll need some sort of moisture barrier to (help) prevent the steel from rusting.  If it's heavy, I also wouldn't sit the safe directly on the laminate as it'll slowly crush the flooring and leave a depression.  As 2oh said, if there's windows in the room, the floor won't fade under the safe and will leave a noticeable color change.    Can you just leave the carpet and replace the floor just prior to moving out?
  3. Have a look at these...   http://archive.org/details/Rifle_Marksmanship_with_the_M1_Rifle
  4. One of each.  Two of many.  Three of some.
  5. If you've got others to play with, I'd leave it be.  I might peel back the paper and inhale the sweet cosmoline goodness occasionally, but that's about it.      ... and those crates.  Sometimes I wish I wasn't so fiscally responsible.  *sigh*
  6. Looks pretty good to me.  I'm sure some mag carriers could be added to the other side.  You might ask this guy for some advice... http://www.trevorbaucom.com/
  7.     An acquaintance of mine is a federal officer.  He reported several days ago that he was getting 3 weeks unpaid furlough.
  8. No personal experience but have heard Forrester's in Lenoir City recommended by a number of people.
  9.     The colors that you see in brass are just varying degrees and types of corrosion.  Brass doesn't "blue" like steel does when it gets hot, mostly it just turns gray-brown (which is really just hot corrosion).  The discoloration can usually be polished out pretty easily.  While the consequences of a case failure are usually low, I'd be fairly conservative.
  10. Welcome!   I'd love to attend an Appleseed, but that's just a tad far away.
  11.     Yep, they seem pretty easy to DIY.  I've been thinking of making one to better utilize the space in my little pistol safe for a while.  I've looked into ordering one and the racks that are small enough for my safe only hold 4 guns.  Not much good when there's 5 in there now....
  12. So I've piddled with the calculator a bit.  Much as I'd like to install a system, it just doesn't pay back in any reasonable amount of time (or ever...).    Given what my roof looks like and using those Sharp 250W panels, the most I think I could fit is a 6kW system.  To me, a big consideration is to have power when the grid goes down, which means batteries.  Given that system size and efficiency, I might meet my own power needs, but I doubt I'd sell much (if any) back to the grid.  That pretty much kills it.  And I don't have $10k to pay for the system in the first place.  We'll have to wait for the technology to advance a bit more so it's more affordable.
  13. Cool, thanks!     edit... how about homeowner's insurance?  Is the array covered?  Special rider needed?
  14.     Thanks much.  I'm the nerdy engineer type too, hence my curiosity.
  15.     At the end of the day, that's the only real leverage a business has.  Tax revenue and jobs.  The job loss will hit the newspapers and get the people's attention, the loss of tax revenue gets the local government's attention.
  16. Better video here, though no audio...     http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newsvideo/weirdnewsvideo/9900003/Helicopter-blows-deer-trapped-on-frozen-lake-to-shore-in-clever-rescue.html   Neat stuff.
  17.   I question that as well.  It looks like it could be polished concrete or ice. I've looked it up several places and everywhere I've found says it's ice.  Note that a very cold, very flat sheet of ice isn't real slippery.  It only gets "like ice" when it's just a little wet.  They could also be wearing special (studded?) shoes.      And a little "small world" note....  through PM's, mav and I discovered that we sat next to one another for a year in HS band, 22 years ago.
  18.         gnmw's post above illustrates the point of my post.  People tend to think of a shotgun as a "scatter gun" where accuracy isn't especially important, but clearly that's not the case.  At typical home defense distances, nearly any shotgun shell effectively makes one hole.  While it may make a really big, nasty, horrible hole, a miss is still a miss.  You can't count on the "pattern effect" of the gun to compensate for inaccurate shooting.  Pointing it "thataway" and pulling the trigger doesn't work.        Great idea!  I'd sand the surface a little to roughen it so the rtv (or any sort of silicone sealant) will stick better.
  19. It wasn't when I bumped it on the 27th, but looks fixed now.  Thanky!
  20.     Care to say how much the 8400W system cost?  Or what the payback period is?
  21.             :bowrofl:
  22.     Point taken.
  23. If you intend it for HD, you need to know what it patterns like at 5 yds. Perhaps you've got a big house, but the longest shot I could conceivably take inside my house is less than 10 yds.
