  1.   This.  They'll keep you warm(er), but unless you're type that can sleep through a hurricane you won't be able to sleep with one.  And you'll never get it back in that little pouch.    I also have the cheap plastic poncho.... basically same as above.
  2. OMG!!!  A freight train hauling ....  freight!!   In freight cars even!  AAAAAAAAHHHHHHhhhhhhh!!!!!
  3. Welcome!
  4. Here's the video of the cannon firing.  Not exactly the most professional cannon crew I've ever seen, but it went bang.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgA2GzX3R_8&feature=youtu.be       And here's the wall gun...   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSGoegLvOA8&feature=youtu.be
  5. Sweet.  Glad Jim was able to fix you up.
  6. Quit working again.  Seems I've have this problem (and fixed it ) before...  Search is my friend.  :)
  7. We took the kiddies to the Ft. Loudoun (no, that's not misspelled) Garrison weekend yesterday. The kids had a ball running around and the wife and I enjoyed seeing all the reenactors doing their thing.... we're nerdy like that. They are all very nice and very knowledgeable on the period they were portraying. They do this fairly regularly through the year. http://fortloudoun.com/special-events/ Here's a few pics... Blacksmith at work Carpenter.... Baker.... The minstral played several tunes... They also did demonstrations with the muskets, 3lb cannon, and wall gun. I got videos of the cannon and wall gun firing but can't get them to upload at the moment... :/ Gotta get me one of these.... :) 75 lb wall gun. Predecessor to the punt gun. Typically fired "grape shot". Made quite an impressive boom too. This gent spoke at length about the development of the weapons (muskets, swords, bayonet, side arms, ...) they used and general life as a foot soldier. The surgeon talked about the medical technology of the day... which is a tad frightening. Several of the tools they have look strikingly similar to modern stuff. Just not quite as clean and shiny... Typical officer's quarters... Not so lavish quarters... Several of the reenactors kids' were running around in period dress as well. One had his toy rifle, which meant my kids decided they required a rifle of their own. The blacksmith applied Kings George's brand to the rifles... Fun, fun...
  8. I keep my stuff out of sight and locked up mostly for my kids' safety.  Your average smash & grabber isn't going to take the time to break out the saws and torches to get into stuff.  A pro will bring his own tools.  I'm not going to inconvienece myself by keeping everything locked up and hidden away out of fear of a buglar.  That's what insurance is for.
  9.   Assuming there's nothing particularly special in there, I'd do the above.  A big cable and lock is smash & grab protection, but my guess is the smash & grabber won't notice the cable until they're in the middle of the grab phase.  My guess is they'll be annoyed at their discovery and the guns will get plenty beat up because of it.

  11.     Ah.  Sounds like a trigger job gone wrong.    And yes, make sure it's unloaded before you put it in the case.
  12.     ... and now you've seen it 3 times!  ;)
  13. Get mad at the bolt, jerk it back hard. Mosins tend to be happiest with a heavy hand. If that doesn't work, could be how you're loading the clips. Apparently there's a right and wrong way to do it (I didn't know that until a minute ago). If that still doesn't work, do a little googling on rimlock and the interrupter.
  14. Am I the only one a little suspicious?  Shot himself in the chest with a rifle while removing it from the case?  Really?  :squint:
  15.   That's mostly true.  It is illegal to carry a handgun.  A HCP is termed a defense to that statue.  You didn't think it would be simple, clear, and easily understood, did you?   What it means is the cops can stop anyone carrying a handgun.  If you have a HCP, they tell you to have a nice day.  If not, they tell you to have a seat in the back of this car.
  16. Best source I know of for concise, reasonably up-to-date information...  http://www.handgunlaw.us/
  17.     But his method of "doing something" just makes the situation(s) worse.    It's like when little kids decide to help you rake leaves.  They think they're helping but in reality they're just scattering the leaves everywhere.  Their lack of skill just makes the problem worse.  Its not their fault that they have no skills, but I wouldn't expect a kid to know that.  However, I would expect a "professional" to.
  18. Congrats!  My older boy was very much the "cone head" for his first couple weeks.  It's since rounded out nicely and is hard as a rock...   Take lots of pictures.  If your daughter is anything like my kids, you'll be so sleep deprived that you won't remember otherwise.  Neither of mine slept for more than 4 hours for 6 weeks.  It was 3 months before they slept through the night consistently.  It's rough but it gets better.    Get ready for your perspective to change dramatically on a number of things.  You'll notice stuff you never thought about before.  All manner of things.   Parenthood is LOTS of work and more frustrating than you can imagine at times, but its great.  When I walk in the door after work and they both come running yelling "daddy!".... yeah, that's the good stuff.
  19.   Ditto.  I know mall cops don't get any respect, but I don't see that this guy does much to earn any.    He needs to work on his conflict resolution skills.
  20.     Yep.  Given how much a gator that big would weigh, the bumper of that truck would be dragging the ground.  It doesn't even appear to be sagging at all.  Fake.
  21. My first thought was a heavy caliber lever gun.  .45-70 or bigger.
  22.   Amen to that.  Would have been fun to turn the tables and have the cops remove her from the property for trespassing.      My wife put a picture on facebook of my (at the time) 4 yr old holding my 91/30 that was about twice as tall as he was.  Glad I didn't end up in jail....  :shake:
  23.     Right.  Most ammo manufacturers are very easy to deal with regarding defective ammo.  Especially when you're not calling from the hospital saying your $2000 gun blew up.
  24. Actually two of these things are not like the others.  The other guy must not have the tactical beard.

Yes, you do.  :)   Photobucket is the most common option.  If you'd like a smugmug account, I can get you a discount.  It's a cheap way to store and back up your photos.
