  2. .308 battle rifle = M1A or FAL.
  3. As stated, walking the tracks is neither easy nor safe. Others are likely to have the same idea so expect company. But they can be a good way to get back to campus when you're hammered... Not that I've ever done that...
  4. Congrats! Owning a house is a ton of work, but its worth it.
  5.     True and I'm fine with that.  But there's lots of people with pistol caliber carbines that might be shooting out that far and not understand what it does at longer ranges.  A quick surf of their web site indicates they have something different for rifle cartridges, but I didn't take the time to read it.
  6.     Use a chronograph.  2000 ft/s seems awfully fast.   I'd be curious about penetration into various things... phone books, boards, sheetrock,... the usual stuff.  I'm also curious how the mostly hollow bullet performs, especially since they claim its not supposed to expand like a traditional hollow point.  My guess is that it works fine at close range but would have horrible ballistics much past 100 yds.  Seems like the poor aerodynamics and low mass would cause it to slow down very, very quickly.    Come to think of it...  If I were selling a new technology like this, seems like I'd already have done all this stuff and would gladly provide evidence as such.  Seems odd that they don't.
  7. I'd also be happy to carpool, but I won't be able to leave Maryville until 10-11am.
  8. I look forward to stuff like this when my kids get a little bigger.  The older one has been wearing me out wanting to shoot his bb gun.
  9.     Numbers matching is worth a bit to a collector, the amount varies based on the model.  I'd put a really nice Norinco in the $400-ish range.   A tacti-cooled Russian?  Sacrilege!!  :panic:     To me... not worth much unless the original parts were available.  Maybe $300-ish.
  10.   Wireless system controlling the servo actuated, roof mounted weapon while the solider sits in the bunker looking at a screen.  Just like a video game.  Or even mounted on something like a Remotec Andros.  The platform is proven.
  11. Nope, not April fools.  And the article is pretty clear that the system isn't remotely rugged enough for battlefield use.  It's bulky, heavy, and complicated, but you've got to start somewhere.  Why not start selling to a few well heeled bench rest guys and generate some capital for continuing the development?
  12. Here's a good book that addresses this topic from the perspective of several actual scenarios...   http://www.amazon.com/Lessons-Armed-America-Kathy-Jackson/dp/1453685553   And essentially what most everyone else said.  Take a couple deep breaths, then call.  Say only what's necessary.  Don't answer any questions regarding how it happened until you've got an attorney.
  13. Welcome!
  14. Releasing the brake and turning was a very smart reaction.  That certainly minimized the damage to your vehicle.  The height difference between the front of the car and rear of the SUV also helped you.  Whether you remember it or not, the rear tires were probably airborne for a bit.  The damage to the cars looks more like a 30-40 mph hit, but I'm no expert.    And yes, you're going to be very sore tomorrow.  If things start hurting more than just some soreness, get checked out sooner rather than later.
  15. Yikes.  Glad you're ok.
  16. Check this out... http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/03/bullseye-from-1000-yards-shooting-the-17000-linux-powered-rifle/   Is reality becoming more like video games or vice versa?   The disconnect with the trigger would certainly be quite odd at first.  However, I can see the video output being very useful.
  17.   This (and love the Blue Brothers reference!).    I've told my wife that many times.  I don't care who's in the way.  If things go sideways, floor it and move them.  Anything smaller than an F350 can pretty easily be pushed out of the way.  I'd much rather deal with a claim on the car insurance than the life insurance.
  18. The average consumer can't get the high powered chemicals the pros use. But when used properly the OTC stuff works fine. I've had termite swarms around the house (no infestation) and the "bug be gone" liquid killed them or ran them off. I use it once per year now.

    Happy Easter folks!
  20. A defensive gun without a round in the chamber is nothing more than an expensive hammer.
  21. Nice! Wants!
  22. While I'd agree that camo matches almost everything, it depends on the occasion and it sure doesn't match that shirt!
  23. My favorite play along was just with the cd's I had. I'd get the tab book stick the cd in and have at it. That was fun but I wasn't learning any of the fundamentals that help you improv and really become a better player. I could play lots of songs but little else.
  24. In my experience, lessons are the best way.  You'll never push yourself like a good instructor will.  I have the same time/money issues but I learned more taking lessons for a year than I did in the 15 or so before that.  We moved away from the teacher but I'd really like to get back into it.
  25. Sweet.
