Plain water works. A non-foaming detergent/solvent (Simple Green, etc.) can be added as well.

I was surprised by how wimpy it is, but that's probably not a bad thing. Cocking it takes a pretty heavy hand, he can't do it by himself (yet). My hope was that it would penetrate the front side of the jug but not the back so I'd be able to recover the bb's. Doesn't have anything to do with me being a cheap bast_rd.... it teaches the boy to not be wasteful... yeah, that's it. I've also got to cut the stock down a couple inches so it'll fit him a little better. With it in his shoulder, he can't really reach the fore grip. The stock has a longer length of pull than a typical cricket .22, which seems odd. I dispatched many a squirrel with my Crossman pump bb gun when I was a kid. It was one shot, one kill accurate inside about 50 ft.

Like most anything else, the skills do erode quickly without use. They don't just immediately start flying 12" apart. They have a very prescribed training method for how they work their way in to such close formations. I've seen a few videos on how they get a new team member up to standards, its quite a lengthy process.

Have to practice as a group? Nope. Have to get some flying hours in, yes. But likely not even in the team planes. http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/explore/blue-angels-practices

Like several others, I can't have it at work so I can't carry all the time. If I'm out with my family, I carry. If I'm out running errands alone, maybe, maybe not.

Fine, FINE. You talked me into it. I'm in for 1, s/n 1313 if possible.

State suspends gun carry permit for James Yeager
peejman replied to ironsniper1's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'd been avoiding this thread simply because ... well, it's Yeager. Again. I liken him to Kim Jong Un... he just needs to crawl back in his hole and hush. But this post made the 90 seconds I spent reading the new posts worthwhile. I needed a laugh this morning.... -
We were planning a family vacation to the area expressly because of the museum and around the Blue Angles practice schedule. Maybe next year. :-\

Which means it won't get this far east until late tonite. Which means my very storm anxious wife will likely keep me awake until the wee hours. :-\ Hopefully it'll wear itself out before it gets there.

Gee, and all this time I thought GTMO was supposed to be closed.... (sarcasm).

The whole problem is still the batteries. People call electric cars "green" because they don't emit CO2. Ever looked into the manufacturing processes for the Li-ion batteries? They use some pretty nasty stuff. They're very difficult to recycle. They're very expensive. And as Boeing recently learned, they're not especially stable. The technology still has a long way to go before it's viable for the masses, IMO.

Most of the time I pocket carry a P3AT because its easy, convenient, and functionally invisible. Occasionally I carry my PT145 IWB in a crossbreed supertuck. I should carry it more often and have been considering a leather OWB holster for it. On rare occasions I carry my wife's S&W 9mm in a Galco OWB leather holster. Also on rare occasions, I'll carry my PT145 in my 5.11 "murse". Mostly I depends on what else I have to carry.

Depends on your budget and your wants/needs. At the lower end.... PTR-91, Saiga, kit FAL. Mid range... M1A, AR10, DSA FAL. Higher end.... SCAR, HK91

I thought about water balloons or just putting a little flour in balloons. But since it wouldn't penetrate a milk jug with relatively flat sides, I have serious doubts it'll pop round balloons reliably.

I really need to get a good pair of impact rated sunglasses for shooting. I'm kinda helpless in the bright sunlight without sunglasses. And on this topic... My 5 yr old tried out his new bb gun yesterday afternoon. Notice he's wearing glasses. I was shocked that ye ole Red Ryder couldn't achieve reliable penetration on a milk jug at about 6 ft. Yep, the bb's bounced off. Eye protection.... yep, that's why. Now Dad has to find some better targets. Just like me, he got bored pretty quick just making perforated paper.

Five yr old suspended for haircut
peejman replied to jphillips63's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Certainly an over-reaction on the administration's part. Sure the boy's classmates will think it's neat today. By tomorrow, it'll be normal and they won't care anymore. That said, there's no direction given in that policy what constitutes "disruptive", it otherwise meets all the criteria they list. I'd get pretty pissy with the administration if my kid got suspended from kindergarten over a hair cut. But then, you never know what may have constituted the conversations before the suspension and any other prior history with this kid and his parents. -
I really miss airshows. Haven't been a real good one in years.

And down your shirt, front and back. I've seen brass melt hair from bouncing off the top of someone's head. I also wear safety glasses (or at least sunglasses) when running the mower and weedeater. I had a very small piece of metal get embedded in the cornea of my left eye when I was a teenager. Only cause we could determine was from the mower. I had been mowing a neighbors very rocky and generally terribly maintained yard the day before. I now have a slight astigmatism in that eye. Coincidence? I've also had the weedeater fling a rock (I think) and hit me in the face. It knocked my sunglasses off, cracked the lens and cut my cheek. I never saw a thing, just BANG and my glasses are gone and my cheek is stinging. And yes, the guard was attached. People that run them without the guard are just asking for it.

Hornets, wasps, yellow jackets, and carpenter bees, ... they gotta go. But as with all things shooting, identify your target. There's several types of beneficial insects that looks like bees but are harmless.

True, but you can't effectively carburize titanium in a home forge, it's typically done in a vacuum. Titanium oxidizes very quickly at high temperatures. It forms a very thin and very brittle oxide layer commonly called alpha case when heated in the presence of oxygen. It doesn't take lots of heat, if your angle grinder is throwing sparks, you're likely making alpha case on the surface. Since alpha case is brittle, it cracks easily. Small cracks in the alpha case on the surface can propagate into the base metal.

The main risk.... um, being blind for the rest of your life? Last I checked, they don't have artificial eyes yet.
