  1. Never shot any Monarch through mine.
  2.     I got my 5 yr old his lifetime sportsman when he was 3.  His little brother will be getting his this year as well.  Seems worthwhile whether they get into it or not.
  3. Wish I could've gotten out.  My riding has been just back and forth to work lately.  80 mpg is nice though.
  4. Gotta love socialism.  Notice that what they consider "huge wealth", we wouldn't think much of.  I'll be what they've listed isn't half of their true assets, but total assets of about $10M? .... that's chump change for lots of US politicians.
  5.     :stunned:
  6. 1. Take the class.  They tell you about the TN carry laws.  They tell you lots of things you can't or shouldn't do, sometimes they're wrong.  2. Pass the written test at the end of class. 3. Pass the shooting test after the written test. 4. Take your certificate to the DMV. 5. Pay them and make an appointment for fingerprints. 6. Get fingerprinted. 7. Wait about a month. 8. Get permit in mail or letter saying you didn't.     edit... Apologies if that was a tad harsh.  Yesterday wasn't a good day.
  7.   Yep.  Huge waste of taxpayer money.  Murderers, child molsters, meth dealers?  Nah, lets go after the hunter who got the wrong license...   :shake:     I don't know about Kansas, but it sure would be nice if the licenses and regulations were simple, clear, and easy to understand.  Just yesterday I spent 10 minutes waiting in line while the clerk tried to explain to a guy that having a fishing license and a trout stamp wasn't enough.  If he wanted to fish for trout in Tellico, he also had to have a Tellico trout stamp, and it's a one-day stamp only.  I'll grant you that's not exactly rocket science, but it sure could be a lot simpler.
  8.     We had a pro come the first year (included in home warranty).  When the swarmers returned the next year and the year after,  I treated it with Ortho Home Defense Max.  I gave it a "less than label recommended treatment" the first time because I'm cheap and lazy.  When they came back, I followed the directions to the letter and haven't seen them since.  Whether that's due to the method of treatment, that I did it 2 consecutive years, or just blind luck, I don't know.   http://www.scotts.com/smg/catalog/productTemplate.jsp?tabs=general&proId=prod220002&itemId=cat50088&id=cat50008
  9. Very cool stuff and excellent photography.
  10. Ding! Flying ants have clearly segmented bodies. Termites don't. The OP's pic looks like a termite to me. Lots of rain this time of year tends to drive ground dwelling termites out to swarm and look for a new home. It's not a reason to panic immediately. If you've had the home treated recently you should be fine. Be wary for a few days and make sure they've moved on. I had swarms at my house a couple times in the first few years we owned it. I treated it every time I saw them (always this time of year) and they've been gone for the past several years.
  11. Nice!  I'm yet to start my additional raise bed(s).  Though it looks like I could put something on top of the lettuce which has completely wilted to nothing over the last week.  :(
  12. Welcome!  I grew up in Hixson.
  13.     Plus the world will collectively forget about all that by 2016.
  14. Welcome!
  15.   I noticed that too and don't think he ever fired.  Don't draw if you don't intend to use it.
  16. I'd never heard of the HS before now so I certainly wouldn't have known the difference. Neat tho...
  17. The store owner was quite fortunate. That was really bad placement of the vehicle with the drivers door against the wall. Should back in instead. The last shot seems a little questionable as the perp is clearly running away. But the guy did walk up and stick a gun in his face and it all happened really fast. Yet more proof that the idea that you can't draw on a drawn gun isn't true.
  18.     Guilty until proven innocent?           I think you're giving criminals a bit too much credit.  It would take an above average intelligence criminal to pursue that line of reasoning (which is entirely valid).    If it was me, I would've asked why they want to see my ID.  Then I would've asked what I've done wrong.  Barring a good answer to those questions, I'd politely remind them that OC isn't a crime.  If they continued to press the matter politely, yes, I'd show them my ID.  I don't think I'd let it get as far as Mr. Call did before giving in and I sure wouldn't get belligerent, but we don't know how fast the situation escalated.  Then I'd get their names and badge numbers and file a complaint with their supervisor.  Would I sue?  Highly doubtful.  Maybe only if they cuffed and stuffed me for no reason.
  19.     I've got a 50 gal rain barrel and 2 fountains that I put them in.  Lots of wiggling larvae one day, none the next.  Win!    I read somewhere that there's still hundreds of abandoned houses with swimming pools in the Katrina impact zone.  Some group was raising a particular type of fish that eats the larvae and essentially stocking all the abandoned pools to help control the mosquitoes.
  20.     He could/should have taken the officers' names and badge numbers and filed a formal complaint and waited to see if anything happened.  He may well have done that, the article doesn't say.  But recent history tells us that the most effective way to get such things addressed is to sue.  Sad but true.       Exactly.  Rather than taking someone else's word for it ([sarcasm]... because people who call 911 never see things that didn't happen...[[/sarcasm]  ), why not observe and verify for yourself whether there's any illegal activity or not.  If there's no illegal activity, then find the caller and inform them as such.
  21. That High Standard looks very much like a 2nd series Colt Woodsman.
  22. I'm the proverbial mosquito magnet. I'm not looking forward to this summer in that respect. If you see standing water around, toss in one of these (or even half of one). They're cheap and they work.
  23.   I think that was the point... In OH its legal to open carry without a permit, hence open carrying by itself is not a crime, hence the police had no cause to detain him or demand his identification.  Granted, life would've been a lot easier for everyone if he'd just shown his ID/permit and gone his merry way.  However, it's obvious the officers involved don't understand the law and attempted to coerce him into doing what they wanted, even if it what they wanted isn't legal to the letter of the law.  It could've been handled better by both sides, but there's no reason to just roll over and comply.    The training budget is always one of the first things to get cut when money is tight.  Want to spend $5000 to send a couple people to a training class?  Not gonna happen.  The fact that there could be a $3.6 million consequence to that lack of training isn't something management likes to acknowledge.
