  1. That is a fantastic idea.
  2. That's funny, but add that to the list of reasons why mechanics are headed toward the same category as lawyers.... 99% of them give the rest a bad name. And for those who may not know, you only put red loctite on 2 or 3 threads just under the head of the bolt.
  3. If the zucchini wants to break instead of rolling up, nuke it for about 20 seconds to soften it.
  4. We saw $3.46 in Dayton over the weekend. Still $4.08 in murvul.
  5. Take those same long, thin slices. Get some string cheese sticks and cut them to the same length as the zucchini is wide and get a slice of deli ham. Zucchini on the bottom, then the slice of ham folded to width, then cheese. Roll that up and pin it with toothpicks. Sprinkle with whatever seasoning you like. Grill until the cheese is melty. Delicious. That's how I got my kids to eat zucchini. Now I mostly just sautee them with squash and onions. That's real tasty too. Shred it and make zucchini bread or add to spaghetti sauce. Zucchini doesn't have much flavor when cooked, so its easy to add to other stuff for some "free" vegetable content.

  7. Good times for sure. I probably should have gone to the hospital once in 4th grade... I'm not sure exactly what happened, probably because I whacked my head in the process. Our playground had 1 really low swing. I think I caught my foot on the forward swing and faceplanted and slid for a ways. I knew it hurt and i was bleeding a little, but I never went to the bathroom to look in the mirror. Mom went nuts when she got home. I had rash down one side of my face, a knot on my forehead, and was filthy having slid across the dirt. Getting cleaned up was unpleasant. Mom went to school with me the next day and tore my teacher and the principal a new one over them having let me sit through the rest of the school day like that without doing anything.
  8. I don't either, but there's plenty of billboard lawyers out there. Depends on whether the guy's family want to pursue it.
  9. For killing the guy. That's how it works in this country. Bad things happened so someone (mostly the lawyers) needs a payday.
  10. Criminally he's in the clear. Violating company policy could result in termination. And note that TN law clearly states that if you use a firearm legally, you cannot be criminally charged for illegal possession.
  11. Welcome!
  12. Perfect combustion of hydrogen yields only water. Imperfect combustion adds CO2, NOx, and other stuff depending on the impurities in the air and temperature of combustion. But where do you get pure gaseous H2? You can use lots of electricity to split water, or a wide variety of chemical reactions that generate waste products and require lots of aftertreatment to purify it.
  13. Never heard of it. Marginally afraid to Google it.....
  14. The grid is overloaded this time of year from noon until midnight. There is typically excess power available overnight. This is where "smart" meters and household power distribution systems are nice. Even though you plug your EV in when you get home, it doesn't begin a heavy charge until the A/C isn't working so hard. While this does use more electricity overall, it has the benefit of leveling out the demand which is easier for the utility and producer to manage. There's plenty of electricy intensive businesses that are only permitted to run overnight when usage is otherwise low.
  15. Think he'll get an SRO job offer in Texas?
  16. Check several locations. In my case, the nearest one was booked but a different one was wide open.
  17. Anyone who knows mayo knows Duke's is the only right answer.
  18. TN law says you cannot be (criminally) charged with carrying past a sign if you've used your firearm legally. Laws vary in other states. I suspect this guy will end up in civil court.
  19. It's more of a background check to verify you're in the country legally and an actual resident of the state than the previous drivers license process. You might be shocked to know that there's lots of falsely issued IDs out there. Like the others, I had to renew mine anyway. Strongly suggest you get it done before your passport expires.
  20. Somewhat similar for the hourly folks where I work. Except they can buy back their half point for being late by bringing biscuits for everyone in their group... about 30 people.
  21. 4 way stops. People who refuse to accept that it's their turn. People who can't grasp that it's possible for multiple cars to be moving at once.
  22. Yes, we live a few miles from Coning, Butler, and Rutherford farms. They usually have a direct sell market. Downtown Maryville has a farmers market on Saturday mornings, and there's Horn of Plenty in town who gets a lot of their produce from local farms. And I've also seen the local farm trucks delivering stuff to Food City, Kroger, and *gasp* even Walmart. Depending on where you are in Knoxville, you might find closer things to the north. I think there's several farms in Anderson County that might have markets.
  23. Probably won't. We may get another pot or two from the plants. We talked about going to the farmer's market and getting some to can.
  24. There's few things more disappointing than a pot full of stringy green beans. Yuck. We'll try again next time.
