I've talked with a few folks who are fairly close to the situation and KPD. They say everyone knows who and where the problems are, but our legal system makes things way too difficult to take action. And perhaps there's bigger picture things at work as well, which tend to prolong the agony in pursuit of a bigger prize.
-
Right around the corner from Austin East high school. Most certainly gang/drug related. Lots of problems in that area over the past several years. KPD doesn't seem be able to get that under control.

It's starting to pile up here, laying on the road and my driveway. Cars seem to be moving fine, if slowly. Still wet under the snow so we'll see if it melts off overnight or turns into an icey mess. I really hope it doesn't get too ugly as I'm supposed to take my older boy to Children's in the morning. Tomorrow may be a long day.

Big sloppy flakes coming down on and off here in murvul. Its not sticking to anything yet, but it might start to pile up.

An evening of follies and a lesson in being prepared

Sounds like a fun afternoon in the woods. at least you didn't have to walk out in the rain. -
What the victim did was exceedingly stupid, I'm not defending that. But I tend to agree here... Rule #3: know your target and what's beyond. Some of those shots may have ended up in the house behind. No blue lights, no sirens, no verbal commands, just walk up and shoot through a fence? After having been on the porch and looked through the windows? No opportunity for surrender. I find that pretty disturbing.

I don't live under an MSM rock, digging through the bs to find something valid isn't my hobby. My intake of anything news related is about 20 minutes at lunch time. I spend a lot of my day staring at a computer, so when I'm not at work, news surfing is very low on my list. This place is probably my main source of info. Last I heard berating folks for being unaware isn't a super strategy for gaining their concurrence.

I share @Erik88 's initial skepticism. Given that's its on the internet from a source I've never heard of, that's strikes 1 and 2 right off the bat. Some others have since posted supporting info that I'll consider, but I still don't fully buy it yet. In God we trust, all others must have supporting data. I'll have to do some research to satisfy myself and I figure Erik will do the same. Perhaps I'm misinterpreting and I apologize if I am, but this seems dismissive of what I think is a perfectly valid question.

Tennessee spent nearly $1B on underperforming schools program

Because the parents are too busy watching tiktok and sporting achievements are far more highly celebrated than academic achievements. -
I ask because of the "at least 4" statement. That's a big number or it seems that way to me. Here's what I found, in order of severity (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/clinical-care/underlyingconditions.html) Category 1: Cancer Cerebrovascular disease Chronic kidney disease* Chronic lung diseases limited to: -Interstitial lung disease -Pulmonary embolism -Pulmonary hypertension -Bronchopulmonary dysplasia -Bronchiectasis -COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) Chronic liver diseases limited to: -Cirrhosis -Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease -Alcoholic liver disease -Autoimmune hepatitis -Diabetes mellitus, type 1 and type 2* Heart conditions (such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies) Mental health disorders limited to: -Mood disorders, including depression -Schizophrenia spectrum disorders Obesity (BMI ≥30 kg/m2)* Pregnancy and recent pregnancy Smoking, current and former Tuberculosis Category 2: Children with certain underlying conditions Down syndrome HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) Neurologic conditions, including dementia Overweight (BMI ≥25 kg/m2, but <30 kg/m2) Sickle cell disease Solid organ or blood stem cell transplantation Substance use disorders Use of corticosteroids or other immunosuppressive medications Category 3: Cystic fibrosis Thalassemia Category 4: Asthma Hypertension, possibly* Immune deficiencies (except people with moderate to severe immune compromise due to a medical condition or receipt of immunosuppressive medications or treatments) So that's a pretty long list, but 75% and at least 4 still seem surprising.

I'm not surprised but I'm also curious, did they provide the list of conditions that qualify as comorbidities?

What he said, cost and variety, mostly variety. Cost is marginal with the extra work involved starting with seeds, though perhaps there is some extra satisfaction. We've had good luck with a seed biodome.... https://parkseed.com/park-bio-dome-seed-starter/c/bio-dome/

I was meaning a heli-coil type repair that keeps the original screw size. But I wouldn't be completely jazzed that my brand new toy had a repair like that in it. Swapping slides with S&W seems an easy option, provided you could find someone willing to do so. Maybe they could sell you a new slide for $1 and give you $1 core exchange, if that makes their paperwork easier.
-
Any chance the retailer would swap slides with you? Assuming they have one to swap. Those tiny screws are prone to break. They're not easy to make and any little flaw at the base of the head will snap it right off. As for removing it... a dab of epoxy to glue it to something else, then some penetrating oil and some heat should get it out of there. Or possibly cut a slot in it for a flat screwdriver. Any access to the other side? Is it a blind hole or through hole? But getting it out is only half the problem. You might get lucky and be able to just chase the threads, but drilling it out and tapping one size up is a strong possibility. You could probably get a threaded insert for it, but its not the easiest thing when it's so small. Either way, that's a lot of suckage for a brand new gun.

Tried that. It works until the rag gets saturated, then it's drip, drip, drip, drip.... The leaky faucet after dripping could be due to hard water deposit build up. I had to replace seals in our shower valve twice a year at our old house.

I don't really recall how windy it was. Yes, the crawlspace is sealed up pretty well. I've been down there on a sunny day looking for light shining through and have sealed up gaps with expanding foam. Vapor barrier on the ground and R19 in the floor joists. The only pipes I have along the outer walls are the spigots, and they're freeze proof with foam covers. The other water lines (copper) are a few feet in from the walls, which is where I measured the temp. I have some of the split foam on the hot line that runs the length of the house, but that's it. The reason I measured the temp was to decide if I needed to listen to water dripping all night.
-
I had similar paranoia so several years ago when it got down to 10F, I crawled under my house with a thermometer. Temps adjacent to the water lines were about 35F. So now I know I'm fine at 10, probably fine well into single digits. That's with power/heat in the house. Very different if no heat.

Much to my surprise and disappointment, the roads here were fine. I was hoping it would either be so bad I couldn't go to work, or I'd at least get some good drifting practice in on the way. Unfortunately neither happened.

Barely 1/2" here in murvul. We mostly got a sleety, slushy, rain. I suspect an icy mess tomorrow morning.

Welcome!

I didn't mean to come across as a dig on you. I just got aggravated reading that pathetic attempt at journalism. One of the best features of the USA is freedom of religion, be it a mainstream one or not. I got the vibe that the author somehow decided that because these folks are a fringe Christian group, they intentionally burned down a bunch of houses. The only supporting facts he/she presents are completely irrelevant.

That's because the traffic and rain will wash most of it into the sewer before it starts snowing. The only thing that accomplishes is rusting cars, drain pipes, and polluting the waterways. But they have to appear to be doing something.
