  1. http://www.easttnriders.com/forum/index.php - good local forum for me.  Made a number of friends here.   http://www.advrider.com/forums/   http://www.superbikeplanet.com/newind.htm/   http://www.usatoday.com/   http://digital-photography-school.com – good e-newsletter   http://www.motherearthnews.com – lots of DIY stuff and good e-newsletter   http://www.backwoodshome.com – same as above.
  2. Since you started in Nashville, I'd recommend you head east.  There's plenty of small towns and plenty of land (small farms) for sale.  Personally, the further east you go, the better it gets.    TN, the patron state of shootin' stuff.  Generally discharge of a firearm is illegal within city limits, though I don't expect you'll have to worry about that.  Lots of public and some private ranges do not permit full auto fire or .50 BMG.  That's definitely something to check on.    The decent internet connection may cause some difficulty if you're really out in the sticks.  High speed broadband access is growing, but there's still lots of places where it's not available.  And the fact that you have to get it from the cable company make it worse.  Satellite internet is an option.
  3.   You're welcome.   :)
  4.   You're still talking about the pistol, right?
  5. What they said.  Wait until next summer.  Need a dry stretch of about a week, couple days before painting and a couple after.    Any of the standard exterior grade paints should work fine.  It looks best if you brush it on, but that's pretty tedious if it's a big job.  If you use a sprayer, thin the paint and do several coats, and mask everything around it (which will likely take longer than painting).

    Wasps!

I'm not allergic to bees, I'm mildly to hornets and yellow jackets, but I'm quite allergic to red wasps.     Went to a cabin in the mountains with my girlfriend's family many years ago.  Got stung by wasps 3 times on my right ankle and foot within 5 minutes of arriving at the cabin.  From a couple inches above my ankle down to my toes swelled up big time.  I spent the whole weekend with my foot propped up wishing I could just cut it off so it would stop itching.  That was miserable.
  7.   If it was, don't you think you'd have seen it somewhere besides yugster?  Wouldn't you expect people like Surefire and Streamlight would charging hundreds of dollars for such a flashlight, especially when they already charge that much for lights with one-tenth that output?    My wife always complains that I'm a natural born cynic, but when something seems too good to be true, it most likely is.    If the housing was made of magnesium and you set it on fire, it might put out 3800 lumens for a few moments.  But otherwise... I doubt it.
  8. Right.  Since people are such crack shots that they can occasionally hit a stationary target, lets encourage them to shoot into the air at small, moving targets.  That's not a recipe for disaster or anything.  It's not like those bullets ever come back down... :shake:   I get the idea that people don't want drone surveillance, but this is incredibly irresponsible and just plain stupid.
  9.   Clean a Glock?  That's just crazy talk.
  10. 3800 lumens from 3 LED's?  Um.... yeah.

    Wasps!

Don't have experience with tobacco spit (ew!), but meat tenderizer and water works quite well for dealing with the itch.    I ran over a yellow jacket nest with the mower earlier this year.  I got hit 3 times before I figured out what was going on.  Hate those little bastards.
  12. Yep. That moron has several "accidental discharge" videos.
  13. When you're in the middle of the school of fish they're feeding on .... yeah, time to bug out.

    FAL vs G3 vs M14

      STG58 = FAL.
  15. That's a pretty crappy situation.  I assume the children's parents would be financially liable for their medical care, but given what you've described, fat chance of that ever happening.  I don't know much about this type of situation, so all I can suggest is that you consult with an attorney experienced in stuff like this.
  16.   This and a couple strings of firecrackers....

  19. If flying to FL is high on your list, living closer to Nashville is a better choice.  Knoxville is a decent little airport, but nothing like Nashville.   That said, any of the 3 towns you listed should be fine.    Oak Ridge gets lots of bad weather and the cops are strict (as are the traffic cameras) but ORSA might make up for that.  Proximity to Knoxville can be good or bad depending on your perspective.    Crossville gets its share of bad weather as well, along with more ice/snow in the winter due to being on the plateau, but its also a little cooler in the summer.  It's much more "small town-ish" than Oak Ridge.    Athens has grown a lot over the years and I'd put it somewhere between Oak Ridge and Crossville.    That said, given the option I'd pick somewhere in the "far east".  We used to live near Kingsport and really liked it there.

    FAL vs G3 vs M14

Nothing wrong with any of the 3.  Full auto fire from any of them is a waste of ammo.  Cost no object, I'd pick the M14 simply because it's probably the most accurate of the 3.  I'd pick the FAL 2nd because they're uber reliable and I think they're cool.
  21. After the reality of spending upwards of $50/mo at the barber for me and my boys, I bought the wife an $80 set of clippers and said, "have at it."   That paid for itself pretty quick and no more waiting an hour or more for a haircut.  She does a pretty good job.  There's been a bit of a learning curve, but I've certainly gotten worse haircuts from someone who had a barber college certificate on the wall.
  22. Same stuff as all the pediatricians asking about guns in the house.
  23. He even fired back at the media...         I don't always like what Barkley spouts off about, but he's spot-on here.
  24. Some security guard, hanging out in the back of the building and shooting through walls.
