Yep. Hybrids and electric cars are generally not an economically viable option to a modern car. Battery technology just isn't there yet. Saving the planet is expensive. Our cars have the same stuff. It's amazing to me how many people don't have jumper cables. And please consider fix-a-flat as a last resort, especially if you have aluminum wheels. Not only does it completely gunk up the inside of the wheel and make it very difficult to balance, something in the fix-a-flat goop attacks aluminum. I've seen aluminum wheels where it had been used that had considerable corrosion under the goop.

The car must be loaded to a certain percentage of it's GVWR for the EPA testing. So yes, the weight of the spare is irrelevant but no, a midget wouldn't help either.

It's more about a packaging and crash structure requirements than gas mileage. They also take up precious trunk space. It's not only the weight, packaging, and cost of the tire, it's also the jack and jack handle, the cover, and the structure in the car necessary to keep all of that breaking loose and flying around in a crash. Spare tires are big and extremely rigid. It's very difficult to package one in a modern uni-body construction car and have a significant impact on the crash behavior of the car.

He got off easy. First, it let go. Second, it didn't roll. Stupid is as stupid does.

Interesting. Glad I don't pay city taxes or buy that newspaper. ;) -
You probably want a hybrid rather than a true mountain bike. The hybrid will be faster and more comfortable on the paved paths, while still being somewhat capable when it isn't paved. You won't find much new in the $200 range... $400 is a little closer to reality for something with good components. Sometimes you can find deals on Craigslist, but you've got to know what you're looking for. Measure yourselves and determine the frame size you need. It's important to be sure the bike fits you properly. If it's uncomfortable, you won't ride it. There's a ton of brands out there, the important thing is the components in the bike (shifters, derailers, wheels, etc.) I'm not up on all the details like I used to be. I'm sure someone will chime in with more info. Don't be surprised if it resembles the classic 9mm vs. .45 debate. ;) Be prepared for a sore arse. It takes some time to acclimate your back side to sitting on a bike seat for any length of time.

Since you started in Nashville, I'd recommend you head east. There's plenty of small towns and plenty of land (small farms) for sale. Personally, the further east you go, the better it gets. TN, the patron state of shootin' stuff. Generally discharge of a firearm is illegal within city limits, though I don't expect you'll have to worry about that. Lots of public and some private ranges do not permit full auto fire or .50 BMG. That's definitely something to check on. The decent internet connection may cause some difficulty if you're really out in the sticks. High speed broadband access is growing, but there's still lots of places where it's not available. And the fact that you have to get it from the cable company make it worse. Satellite internet is an option.

You're still talking about the pistol, right?

What they said. Wait until next summer. Need a dry stretch of about a week, couple days before painting and a couple after. Any of the standard exterior grade paints should work fine. It looks best if you brush it on, but that's pretty tedious if it's a big job. If you use a sprayer, thin the paint and do several coats, and mask everything around it (which will likely take longer than painting).

I'm not allergic to bees, I'm mildly to hornets and yellow jackets, but I'm quite allergic to red wasps. Went to a cabin in the mountains with my girlfriend's family many years ago. Got stung by wasps 3 times on my right ankle and foot within 5 minutes of arriving at the cabin. From a couple inches above my ankle down to my toes swelled up big time. I spent the whole weekend with my foot propped up wishing I could just cut it off so it would stop itching. That was miserable.

If it was, don't you think you'd have seen it somewhere besides yugster? Wouldn't you expect people like Surefire and Streamlight would charging hundreds of dollars for such a flashlight, especially when they already charge that much for lights with one-tenth that output? My wife always complains that I'm a natural born cynic, but when something seems too good to be true, it most likely is. If the housing was made of magnesium and you set it on fire, it might put out 3800 lumens for a few moments. But otherwise... I doubt it.

Right. Since people are such crack shots that they can occasionally hit a stationary target, lets encourage them to shoot into the air at small, moving targets. That's not a recipe for disaster or anything. It's not like those bullets ever come back down... :shake: I get the idea that people don't want drone surveillance, but this is incredibly irresponsible and just plain stupid.

Clean a Glock? That's just crazy talk.

3800 lumens from 3 LED's? Um.... yeah.

Don't have experience with tobacco spit (ew!), but meat tenderizer and water works quite well for dealing with the itch. I ran over a yellow jacket nest with the mower earlier this year. I got hit 3 times before I figured out what was going on. Hate those little bastards.

Yep. That moron has several "accidental discharge" videos.

Gathering information/advice concerning my nieces.

That's a pretty crappy situation. I assume the children's parents would be financially liable for their medical care, but given what you've described, fat chance of that ever happening. I don't know much about this type of situation, so all I can suggest is that you consult with an attorney experienced in stuff like this. -
